iPhone hardware unlock tutorial goes live

Well, looky what the internet has for us this morning friends, Geohot and crew have gone ahead and spilled the beans several days early. Apparently today is unlock tutorial day chez iphonejtag.blogspot.com, and not next week as he originally promised. Geohot is liveposting the unlock tutorial step by step with pause for Q&A sessions in between the steps. Hurry over, he just hit step three, so most of the mystery is still intact and the fun is just beginning. If you want to get an overseas data plan with at&t, it's 25 bucks a month for *only* 20 MB, AND there's a one-year commitment involved. So unlock away.

No F'ing way man. As excited as I am for this event; that level of soldering and what is at stake is too steep a price. I have fried 2 live hard drives within minutes of each other accidentally touching them to a chassis while I was fiddling around inside my old G4. This is not the hack for me yet. But, I am super proud of that crew. I have my CC ready to buy a refurb the second we have a verifiable software unlock. My only concern is, are we seeing this hardware process in lieu of a software based solution?

"Scrape away at the trace with something like a multimeter probe. Then solder a very thin wire to it. Be very careful. Only scrape away at that solder mask above that one trace. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BREAK THE TRACE. This is the hardest step in the whole process; the rest is cake."

A Multimeter probe? Jesus, get a good fiberglass pen and youre set. Looks i will eb unlocking quite a few iphones in the coming weeks.

Gehot method works great! was easier than expected. Finally i have my iphone fully unlocked working great in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Telecom Personal GSM Network!!!
