AllofMP3 promises to resume service
It looks like the long, litigious saga of AllofMP3 is about to take yet another turn, with the company is now promising to resume its music download service following a recent Russian court ruling in its favor. While it apparently isn't quite ready to get all that specific, the company has posted a brief notice on its official blog saying that it expects to resume the service in the "foreseeable future," and that it's doing its best to ensure that "users can use their accounts, top up balance and order music." Of course, AllofMP3 has hardly left all its legal troubles behind it, so there's no telling what may happen between now and the intended re-launch. Either way, we're pretty sure this won't be the last we hear from the company.[Via The Inquirer]

Hey, anytime a court in any country makes an intelligent decision about something in the technology world, I consider that a win...

I think its all part of the Russian Reversal. Y'know... In Soviet Russia blah blah blah
Yimmy @ Aug 27th 2007 1:23PM
Yah, but again, any decision like that coming out of a court room is good for us. Even if the intent of the decision is different than what we would like it to be. I just hope they at least made the decision for the right reason, and not part of some super Russian plan to sucker techies into moving there. it would take a heck of a lot more to get me to move to Russia than a techie paradise.

In Soviet Russia, AllofMP3 sues you!!

Yeah... really intelligent decision. It was a real grey area. Every day, people blatantly steal and sell other people's music and it's only once a case like this comes up that we really get right and wrong defined.

No, no, no, you've got it all wrong. It is:
In Soviet Russia, All of MP3 are belong to us

Although they evidently have a time machine in the works too as the relaunch post is dated August 31

A replacement website, www.mp3sparks.com has already been up and running...

Excellent site with a fairly comprehensive selection of stuff, the best set of codecs options offered anywhere and a nice little interface (alltunes in particular worked perfectly).
Howver, let's not pretend it was anything other than piracy. Should it be how the record companies operate online (or maybe the artists directly)? Absolutely. Is the site against (at least the spirit of) international copyright standards? Absolutely. Screw the record companies, artists get ripped off if you use allofmp3. If you're OK with that, there are obviously lots of even "cheaper" alternatives ... you dirty dog
