First 25 RED ONE cameras ship
Alright HD enthusiasts and doubters, it seems the time has come: RED's finally shipping its first batch of RED ONE cameras (and lenses, and accessories, etc.). Ok, shipping isn't really the right term. The first group of RED ONE users all flew out to RED HQ in southern California to pick up their 4K cameras, and we can't say we're not jealous. We'll leave the rest to you to discover for yourself, once they start talking timecode and whatnot we tend to zone out.

When Apple come out wit da Icamera, I will definitely buy it. All other brand sucks compare with Apple. I think it's time Apple reinvent and change the camera market 4evur.

please add /sarcasm at the end of your post.
James @ Sep 2nd 2007 1:53AM
Please, that's obviously sarcasm. It doesn't take an idiot to work that out.

AWESOME... I was drooling all over it at the NAB earlier this year...
Lucky guy! Can't wait to get my hands on that bad boy :D
OiD @ Sep 3rd 2007 6:36PM
Who? The camera or the guy with the camera? ;)
Steve D. @ Sep 2nd 2007 10:15AM
The camera of course ;)
eh @ Sep 1st 2007 5:31PM
Wow thats way bigger than it looked in the pictures, I thought it was camcorder size. So how many of the people there were in the porn business?
Fubar @ Sep 1st 2007 5:45PM
Are you kidding? Cellulite, shaving stubble and scars from cheap plastic surgery in HD? Count me out....
vileta2 @ Sep 1st 2007 5:55PM
Incase some of you don't know, RED was founded by the same guy who founded Oakley (Maker of the most innovative sunglasses ever), who is Jim Jannard (and also recently sold Oakley and now everyone dislikes him).
Take a look at their website, red.com, and you will see that this will be a product that delivers.
z0iid @ Sep 1st 2007 6:18PM
innovative (sunglasses)? ok then.... maybe good marketing... but not innovative sunglasses.
z0iid @ Sep 1st 2007 6:26PM
maybe i wasn't clear - i was commenting on his OAKLEY sunglasses comment. Not the RED camera. Oakley sunglasses aren't the "most innovative sunglasses ever."
Trevor Bommersbach @ Sep 1st 2007 10:20PM
Mr Vileta. While I'm in accordance with you in that Luxotica will no doubt effect Oakley in negative ways, you and everyone else who are upset at Jarred, have your anger directed at the wrong person.
Oakley is a PUBLIC company. Jarred is on record (google: oakley wired interview) saying that taking his company public was the worst mistake he every made. Jarred lost a great deal of control in his company as soon as it went public. Don't blame him, blame the stockholders that trump him on a fairly regular basis and will continue to do so.
There's no bigger fan of Oakley than myself. I don't stop at the sunglasses. My entire wardrobe, including shoes is Oakley. I love their sense of style and over engineering. But I also understand how business works and that all good things come to an end...
vileta2 @ Sep 1st 2007 6:23PM
Obviously you've never heard of Hydrophobic lenses or considered the existence of HD (in this case meaning "most minimal distortion possible") optics.
Trevor Bommersbach @ Sep 1st 2007 11:13PM
z0iid- (Among others who think Oakleys are nothing more than clever marketing) Just because a brand has clever marketing, doesn't mean their designs are merely a product of such.
Do some research. Oakley has a higher ratio of engineers than most technology giants. The level of technology developed and used by Oakley would give any serious geek a sticky wet-dream. Read this amazing and inspiring article (written in 1999) by Wired magazine.
http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/7.12/oakley.html
And Oakley has come along way since then....
I hold has much respect for Jim Jannard as I do geeks like Dean Kamen.
vileta2 @ Sep 1st 2007 6:41PM
I know you were. I'm talking about Oakley.
z0iid @ Sep 1st 2007 6:51PM
ok, fan-boy. using the phrase "best...ever", kinda discredits the content of a post, unless you were going for sarcastic, which you weren't.
AM Corona @ Sep 1st 2007 9:35PM
30-35k is the average that someone spends on one of these with accessories. Too expensive for someone just starting out though :-(. I'll stick with my lens adapters, rails, etc. for now.
Plus... how the heck would I edit this footage when I use premiere on pc?
PEZ @ Sep 1st 2007 11:20PM
IN 5 YEARS THAT TECHNOLOGY WILL BE IN YOUR CELLPHONE.
anantha92 @ Sep 2nd 2007 2:04AM
i'd say about 10.
wiidude420 @ Sep 2nd 2007 12:55AM
wtf you use
premiere, the worst editing software on the planet. you need the
best...AVID....but if you are just an amature go with apple final cut
proonly people who use premiere are people who know no better or
people who edit porn
MrWhite @ Sep 1st 2007 9:37PM
Oakley = really expensive plastic
vileta2 @ Sep 1st 2007 10:49PM
Yeah and so is Gucci, D&G, etc.
However Oakley does sell "X-Metal" sunnies which are basically sculpted metal frames. With such aggressive styling however, so they do not appeal to many outside of the sports world.
vileta2 @ Sep 1st 2007 10:47PM
Wardrobe and footwear huh?
Sounds like an O-Review member.
I have black Oakley Skillets for school (catholic with a strict uniform). A few shirts too, a pair of sandals, a Time Bomb and my 3 pairs of sunnies but thats it; Not much :\
True and valid, but Jannard did have a big say in the final decision, right? I heard that he held over 60% of the shares.
I know hardly anything about how public corporations manage such matters, but I'd think that his words would be somewhat decisive, no?
Trevor Bommersbach @ Sep 1st 2007 11:53PM
No I'm not a O-Review member. Took a glace at the website but it was really more about glasses than clothing.
Oakley makes some of the best clothing. Their shoes are what got me into the brand. Oakley shoes are bar-none the best in the industry. (Too bad they axed the shoe line...at least in retail stores....too hard to stock all the types, colors and sizes for such small stores). Tons of proprietary materials and technology in everything shoe and piece of clothing they make. The vulcanized tire rubber soles(similar compounds to those found top performing F1 tires) they use on a good bulk of their shoes and sandals yield years and years of daily use with minimal wear. I could probably get 6 years of daily wear out of just 1 pair, the soles are just that good.
The clothes are perfect attire for developers/IT/engineering types (business casual). Any geek with a hint of fashion sense would agree...if they only knew the clothing line existed.
As far as the 60/40 split. That was true a while ago. I'm not sure about now with the takeover. Anything Jannard said since the takeover has been nothing but lip-service (I think fans of the man would pickup on his true feelings by the choice of words he's employed since then pretty easily).
Having majority stake doesn't mean you always get your way. Jim works with the shareholders rather than against them. Wish our Rhino of a president could be a little more like Jannard.
bradvr@mac.com @ Sep 2nd 2007 12:53AM
Got mine too (TWO), serials #15 and #16. We've been making amazing pictures all day. I have been in the film/video/photography business for 30 years and after making RED camera images it will be really difficult to accept anything less.

Tons of useful information and video

I also love when people don't freaking reply to the original post. Great fun! I also don't really see that as spam but more as proof of "we do have it".

I first heard and saw the RED at the Final Cut Studio 2 Tour when it rolled through DC back in July. It's pretty hot apparently, but I'm not really at a level to appreciate this. I'm pretty much a poser in the video world armed with just my Sony HC1, My 2.16ghz MacBook Pro, and Final Cut Express.
One day I'll make something profitable with what I'm working with and then get a RED. :-D
