NEC intros water-cooled all-in-one Valuestar W PC
NEC's dabbled in water-cooling before, but it now looks to be making the technology a bit more commonplace, with it helping to keep its new Valustar W line of all-in-one PCs both cool and quiet. Available in both 22 and 19-inch models, the PCs top out with a Core 2 Duo E4400 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT graphics, a 500GB hard drive and, apparently, a Blu-ray burner / HD DVD reader, with a digital/analog TV tuner thrown in for good measure. If that's a bit too much for you, you can scale things back all the way to a 1.6GHz Celeron 420 processor, with a 320GB hard drive and a standard DVD burner. From the looks of it, both options (and a few in between) are available in Japan now, with them setting you back between ¥210,000 and ¥340,000 (or roughty $1,800 to $2,900).

Water and computer never seems to mix with me. Call water something else in this context it makes me a bit nerves to say the least. Do a Plasma cooled PC that’s ok.

Thats what I had thought when I first started hearing about Water-Cooling..
Yeah, it aint water, but some kind of non-conductive gel.. But ya know, Gel-Cooling just doesnt sound cool...

Gel-cooling ain't bad idea. How about Laser cooled and just shine a white laser through the water, no idea what the laser has to do with it but it's a laser, I'd buy it. Lol.

OK, First off water is NOT electrically conductive. It's the minerals within water that conduct electricity. So, distilled water is fine and recommended in a water cooling system.

And how exactly would one cool a PC with expended energy?
That aside, water cooling has been used in servers for some time now. Modders have been liquid cooling for years, it's all old tech.
Gel cooling use ppg and an alcohol in a distilled water base. It's thicker, but still fluid enough to move through the system when heated and has better heat transfer qualities.

It looks like an iMac minus the utilitarian style... and I don't even like iMacs.

OMG.. its an Amiga 1000, and its come back from the grave to kill us all.

too bad only apple can design an all in one that doesnt look like ass.

Now this is something that I aint seen before, that being the WATER COOLING (UBER COOL) built in but other than that this reminds me of a Apple iMac's. But on the hardware side yeah it POWERFULL but on the DESIGN, it could be done better.
Ruben_D_G90 @ Sep 3rd 2007 7:52PM
Design is ok
Doctor Memory @ Sep 3rd 2007 8:19PM
Wow, I haven't seen a desktop with a builtin keyboard nook since the Amiga 1000. Brings a tear to my eye, it does...
why? @ Sep 3rd 2007 10:08PM
it looks like ass.

If we were to "hack" the cooling system, how would it affect if we add "coolant" to the "water" in the cooling system ?
seriously, how would you clean the cooling unit after the warranty ?
