Cowon's 30GB iAudio X5 gets right with God
That purported iAudio X5 picture above comes courtesy of the Chinese language site Reesun. Authentic? Sure, why not. The only real difference we see is a thinning of the overall device along with a uniform flattening of the front panel which allows the joystick to move front-and-center just the way the good lord intended it. You know, like the way the earth is a perfect circle at the center of the known universe, eh Copernicus? But 30GB... you'll be tempting her wrath with that pitiful tithe Cowon.

What the L? What does the iAudio X5 have to do with heliocentrism? Did Engadget make up the association with God so they could make the article more interesting?
Nice.
Don't you mean geocentrism (Earth is the center of the universe)? Heliocentrism is when the SUN (Sol) is the center of the universe or solar system.
Looks sweet but I agree 30Gb is getting a bit old in the tooth
just like the previous x5/x5l line, i'm sure this will also come with the 60gb model
c'mon cowon, show us the x7 already!
I mean, the classic does come in 80GB and 160GB flavors... 30GB is a little ... 2005-ish.
Earth is the center of the universe? What solar system models were you taught from? Oh, the Sunday School model I suppose.
Go study your history and maybe you will get the joke.
Is it just me or does it say 80GB on the back of the player in the pic?
looks like a 3 to me.
I agree... it looks like 80gb on my screen.
Gorgeous. But it needs to be a bit thinner.
And I read 80GB......
Cowon really needs to work on getting the X6 or X7 out instead. the X5 is way to old and outdated compared to the iPod and other players.
Old in terms of model age, correct? In terms of technology, this older dated unit is still far superior in terms of format compatability, capabilities, build, and sound quality.
ummm.... Copernicus did not teach that, and why did you even throw that in the article?

@Joe,
The first commenter nailed it, look it up.

Hey Joe,
Look up "sarcasm" while you're at it.
I was merely pointing out that, even if the connection to Copernicus and the heliocentric theory had a point in the story, it wasn't Copernicus who taught that. he taught the exact opposite, that the world was in motion, not that it was the center. Do your research.
@Joe,
Sad that it's come to this, but: Copernicus and others were persecuted by the church for teaching anything other than Ptolemy (the earth and therefore man, was at the center of everything). Mixed in was the idea that the Earth was a perfect sphere with everything in perfect circular orbit because anything other than pristine geometric circles could not be of divine creation.
Cowon appears to have moved their circular button to the center of everything. Get it? Ha ha, meh.
Thomas
I have owned an X5 for about 1.5 years and would not trade it for anything!
It sounds so much better than an isheep.
God, please teach these nerds to get a joke!!!
And keep the universe turning around your holy earth! (Said with Willy's voice, the janitor from the Simpson)
Mmh, I think engadget should start using [sarcasm] and [/sarcasm] for you to understand their jokes, jerks.
I love my M3 to death, it sounds better than any thing out there IMHO. I wish they would come out with a newer model to compete with the ipod touch.
As the iPod goes to 160GB, where are Creative, Archos, iRiver and Cowon? AFAIK, there's no PMP from anyone that matches the capacity.
I'm in the market for something with > 100Gb but I can't find anything except the new Classic.
The Archos 605 Wifi can go up to 160GB.
The Pacemaker is 120gigs. http://pacemaker.net
Wow, that's gotta be among among the lamest press releases ever. It's about the poorest attempt at religious sarcasm I've ever seen, and it's just being done to make a quick buck. Also, the link I clicked on said that this was a 300gB (yes, three hundred) device, so seeing an article about an antiquiated 30gB device pop up was pretty dissapointing. Sad on all points...
I love my Cowon G3 to death, but I'm sad to say that smaller media player manufactures simply don't have the economies of scale to be competitive with Apple players. Apple hardware are far better because thier volumn is 100 times more.
That said, there's no chance in hell I'll use anything that requires iTunes. Or any PC side loading softare. So I guess I'll still keep buying non-Apple players.
The only downside to the X5 is the screen size. Were they able to create something with all the greatness of the X5 at a size comparable to the iPod or iPod touch, Apple would finally have some real competition.
As it is, though, the X5 is a far better audio player than the iPod ever was, they just don't have the industrial design brilliance or the marketing savy that is the Apple behemoth.
What? No more Color sound?!?!
This would have been cool if it came out like two years ago!
