Sanyo's Xacti DMX-HD700 is world's smallest and lightest 720p camcorder
Sanyo's back with another Xacti solid state camcorder with this, their DMX-HD700. That's "HD" as in high-def, "7" as in 720p instead of the 1080i recording action found in their DMX-HD1000. On sale starting October 19th, the "world's smallest and lightest 720p" camcorder records MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video and 7.1 megapixel stills to SD/SDHC cards. It's also loaded with the ability to track up to 12-faces, a 2.7-inch LCD, and ISO 3200 sensitivity. Expect to drop an estimated ¥70,000 (about $609) or so for the privilege.

Pretty slick for $600...I wonder if the image quality is somewhere in the neighborhood of decent...H.264 is a plus!

ISO 3200... 720p... H.264 to flash...
I'm going to go out on a limb here and that's without knowing how big the sensor is, that the video quality leave a bit to be desired.

Picky picky. Sanyo's Xacti DMX-HD700 is world's smallest and lightest 720p camcorder with build-in controls, build-in power supply, build-in LCD display, build-in video out and a place to put storage media. Rather long for just a title but happy now?

I've googled "xacti hd700" and found some sample videos people took from this baby. The quality is amazing, much much better than it's predecesor HD2a. The sample videos taken by day to day people are so smooth even in low light and the H.264 definitely helps here. It's better than production grade DVD movies. Ok, i know DVD is lower resolution than 720p but that's the point I am trying to make here.
I am ordering one for X'mas this year!!

The DMX-HD1000 is 1080i, not 1080p.

I've almost bought one the previous versions of these babies while in Japan three months ago and unfortunately there was no english menu/support at the time, hopefuly they'll release one for the international market this time

Pretty retro look. Kind of like a super 8 camera from the 70's

I've seen footage from older versions of this thing and its absolutely horrible. You're better off with a 3 chip DV camera, you'll get much better results. Color and contrast is more important to image quality than resolution.
i3c @ Sep 26th 2007 11:26AM
i'd prob'ly try to shave with it.

The new Kodak easyshare cameras are smaller and do 720p video, and their pseudo-SLR even has image stabalization...
...Oh, and they're $299 pre-sale price!
