Digital Foci stuffs a digiframe into a keychain
Nah, this isn't the first pocket-friendly digiframe we've seen, but for those who prefer keychains over wallets, it's not a half bad option. Digital Foci's Pocket Album features a 1.5-inch 128 x 128 resolution color screen, nine hours of battery life, manual / automatic scroll modes and OS X / Windows compatibility. Furthermore, users can recharge the unit with a simple USB cable, and there's even a built-in clock if you happen to forget your wristwatch. Unfortunately, there's only 8MB of internal storage, but then again, what did you expect for just $39.95?

"Unfortunately" there's only 8mb? For a 128 x 128 screen? So each image is going to be what 4kb, so you can "only" hold 2000 pictures. Awww...bummer...

Hey ding dong, think of the concept that allows your 8 megapixel image to be displayed on your digital camera's 2" LCD. Would you sit there and resize all your photos down to 128 x 128, or just drop the file from your computer directly onto the device?
In any case, these things are craptacular. I've seen them at Sharper Image, and the dpi is terrible.

Doesn't Brookstone already sell this exact same thing?

Yeah, but only for the past 2 to 3 years. Apparently this is still fresh gadget news.

I paid 10 Euros each shipped for a couple of these that i found from a Hong kong seller on EBay..
they are actually pretty cool.. with a handy interface that shrinks the photos for you...

can this "news" be older? Office Depot in Canada have been selling similar items for the past year.

8hrs battery life?!
khu @ Oct 10th 2007 9:20AM
hopefully u can switch it off while it's in your pocket :)
128x128 @ 24bit is a 48k uncompressed bitmap :) but, yup, more like 4k as a jpeg. (i mean kB)

They sell these at toystores here, I think for 15 bucks, but they seem to try to dump their last stock of them.
Seems a cute concept to me, only the battery issue is a bit annoying I imagine, perhaps they should add a solar panel to increase batterylife or something because this isn't the kind of product you'd be inclined to dedicate such attention to as to recharge it twice a day.

Great, so now in addition to my cellphone, notebook, blackberry, and headset I can now also forget to charge my keychain every night.

Hmmm... several GB flash drive, with a picture frame built into it, which could then charge when I had it plugged into my computer... that would be useful.
But, just for showing pictures? I can do that with my cellphone, pda, Flickr account, or pretty much any other digital device... seems rather useless, to me. And, for $40? Dude, just go get a 2GB flash drive, and show them your pictures at a computer terminal.

OK, 1.5" display at probably 72ppi. Couldn't you fit like probably 40 photos on 8MB with that size display?

Maybe for the first few days this thing would be nice, but then? It really has no use.
Personally, I don't want to spend time in trying to understand how my keychain works.

Cute toy, but why make it a keychain?
