Motorola RAZR 2 V8 for T-Mobile caught in the wild
As you well know, Motorola's RAZR 2 V8 isn't slated to land on T-Mobile until October 15th, but how's about a few looks to keep you antsy over the weekend? Thanks to a tipster who managed to get his hands around one of the T-Mobile-branded handsets, we're now getting our first looks at the device. So without further ado, why not check out the gallery over at Engadget Mobile to see what the fuss is all about?

I hope they are not expecting a lot of money for this.

I understand the premise of writing the camera resolution on the casing, but since when did they start putting capacities on there....?
Jason @ Oct 12th 2007 11:26AM
one of the selling points for the phone is its music playing capabilities (that's one of the main purposes of the huge touch-sensitive external screen), and most PMPs state their capacity on the casing.

To make it remind you of an ipod which can play music. They want you to think of the phone as a phone/ipod type device

Razr 1 was crap. Why would I want to buy a razr 2? "Twice as crappy, twice the price."
I'll take two, thank you!
SteveO @ Oct 12th 2007 11:45AM
50 million Razr 1s sold as of July '06. I think they stopped counting after that.

When the Razr was released it was highly expensive - a luxury cellphone - and highly desireable.
When the prices dropped and people started getting them left and right, they loved it. How is the Razr crap?
The Razr was one of the few phones that had an interface that a typical lay person could use well.

@dickhardnocks, the razr interface was hardly innovative. . . mediocre at best. I honestly never saw the appeal, it was only desirable in the beginning because it had a good marketing scheme behind it. . . no everyone and they're mom has one and it's not cool anymore. wait. . . you'll give me 10 free ones if I sign up for a contract? They must be REALLY nice!

I hate branding, especially when it's pink

Motorola is desperate for a new product. Razr aside, most of their phones are pretty uninspiring, and crappy.
I have a Motorola phone, and I cannot wait to get rid of it.
Jason @ Oct 12th 2007 11:44AM
@hartmania... really? While I agree that 2MP and 2GB are certainly not cutting edge by any means (compared to some of Nokia's N-Series), I wouldn't say they're 3 years behind either... The average new phone, even smartphones, is still sporting a 1.3MP shooter and under 1GB of memory, and that's including the Blackjack, Pearl, and Treo 750. 2MP and 2GB is better than most phones*.
* by most phones I mean branded phones available from AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc in the US market.

Maybe Motorola learned their lesson from the first time around. I curious about the reviews about this thing.
Shibathedog @ Oct 12th 2007 2:42PM
Yeah the Razr sold well because it was like the iPod of phones, But just like the iPod in the MP3 player world the Razr was never really that great or revolutionary over the rest of the phones in the phone world.
and shut the hell up about mentioning apple, someone was going to do it eventually anyway, I wasn't doing it just to drop names.
Richard @ Oct 13th 2007 1:49AM
There is no SD card slot on the V8, better to get the V9 or wait for the Sony/Ericsson k850i to become a bit cheaper.
Crystal Shealey @ Oct 17th 2007 11:06AM
wat u doin?
Truly Disappointed @ Nov 18th 2007 1:51AM
I'm truly disappointed by the RAZR2 V8. For me, its unusable. You can't configure it so that the phone rings, and SMS's are silent (I need to hear the phone ring for work, but get far too many SMS's to hear an alert for all of them).
I created a silent WAV file, and set that as the ringtone for SMS's. Then I found out there's an undocumented reminder that beeps every couple of minutes until you acknowledge the SMS. You can't turn off the reminder.
I opened a support case with Motorola, but they didn't have any resolution. They said they usually update the firmware 2-3 months after release, but they didn't commit to that, or that they would fix the problem.
For me, the phone is unusable until (or if) Motorola fixes it with the next release. If you already bought one, please open a support case with Motorola. The more people that complain, the more likely they will fix it.

I liked this phone originally. ive had it for 2 months and within the same time period the screens cracked TWICE. I didnt drop it, bang it or do anything to it that would make it crack. I refuse to claim again as T-mobile will charge me £50 this time to get it replaced and as ive already paid £25 they can sod off. T-mobile were also unhelpful on teh phone and refused to take any responsility for the faults in my phones and told me to claim on the insurance. I have found a replacement screen on ebay but am worried about damaging the phone futher through trying to get the screen off. anyone know how to do this?!!
I would never buy a motorola phone again after this. im stuck with this crap for another 16months.
