Exmocare's wristwatch cares about your feelings
Exmocare has been prepping this watch for quite a while now, but it certainly seems to be shaping up of late. The Exmocare wristwatch monitors your heart rate, heart rate variability, movement and galvanic skin response, all of which the watch uses to determine how you're doing, specifically emotionally. If something's too outside the norm, the watch can report the condition to a loved one or caretaker over email, SMS or IM. It's primarily designed for elderly patients, and will be hitting the market early 2008.

EMOcare?
insertAlias @ Nov 20th 2007 10:28AM
I did a double take when I saw the title. That's what I thought it said too.
riggs @ Nov 20th 2007 10:33AM
guilty as well.

This has nothing to do with that crappy watch, but I figure I would post here since the article is at the top...Did you guys see that apple advertisement right at the top? The PC vs. Mac "give up" on Vista?? How much more biased can this site get????
Henry @ Nov 20th 2007 10:41AM
Yeah, because Engadget has so much control over the adds AOL puts on their site.
No, Apple just paid a bunch to have big adds all over Engadget. Not a big deal. I remember adds for Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Sony Bravia, and like a bazillion others.
insertAlias @ Nov 20th 2007 11:00AM
OMG!!!!! ENGADGET HAS ADDS FOR MACS!!! THEY'RE SO BIASED!!!
Jackass.
I see a DLP add here as well. Does that mean that Engadget is biased against plasma tv's? It's an add. This issue has been coming up all morning. Get over it. If it bugs you that bad, get Firefox+Addblock Plus. (I had to turn that off just to see what the hell everyone is talking about.)
PEZ @ Nov 20th 2007 12:54PM
What I find even more ridiculous is, the "BREAKING NEWS" section. I thought this was a BLOG, isnt that point of the blog to have instantaneous news intantly? So, if I read the BREAKING news in an instantaneous blog, do I go back in time?
FREAKY.
Djunior80 @ Nov 20th 2007 11:46AM
@insert alias...You are the jackass buddy...an add like that on a blog site that clearly slants towards apple is something to comment about. While I understand that they need the add revenue, it is simply an ill placed add if you want to seem as a neutral site on tech. Your DLP V. Plasma argument is pointless, as those adds are not clearly saying to GIVE UP on the alternative, and engadget does not post biasedly towards favoring DLP's or Plasmas as it does post SEVERAL articles about APPL and always favors apple over Vista.

An add like that at first can seem biased, but if you would actually use your brain before you comment about it you would realize that Engadget doesn't personally choose the adds for it's site! Look at some of the other Blogsmith blogs. Many have the same add layout. They even have some of the same adds! Adds are chosen by category, and the mac add ended up on a tech blog. Surprise, surprise. But you get all offended and out of shape by something that wasn't even intentionally done.
Also, I can't take seriously an opinion by someone who can't even click the submit button only once.
You are the jackass, you fail, and I'm done with you.

let me step in and say the word is Ad, not Add...morons.

Thank you that was driving me nuts.

Am I the only one who is seeing the similarities between the design of the watch and the design of GLaDOS (turrets, units e.t.c)
Alright if u stay calm u'll get a cake.
Have a nice day.

I have recently completed a presentation that deals with a personal safety and security system that utilizes external medical monitors to alert relevant third parties in the event of an emergency. It uses a wristwatch similar to the Exmocare Wristwatch.
Check it out at (www.stutay.com). A system of this nature has the potential to save many lives and help put an end to violent crime on a global scale.
Wolfticket @ Nov 20th 2007 11:34AM
I think that crappy watch is quite a good idea...

I think I ought to tell you I'm felling very- *beep* depressed.

I like it! Can it email my kids when I am feeling very, very pissed at them?
Ryan Trevisol @ Nov 20th 2007 11:52AM
Here's a silly question . . . wouldn't you need a sim card for that? How is this thing going to send SMS messages? Do have to get a cellular account for my WATCH so it can text my girlfriend that I'm feeling horny? Or my shrink when I'm depressed?
I'd be depressed having to pay for a texting account for my watch.
nycred @ Nov 20th 2007 12:04PM
OMG! I saw a Target ad AND a link to get Engadget in Spanish! That means that they are pro WalMart and Anti English as a primary language in the US! We should totally boycott them!
Or maybe you should get the EmoCare watch to keep you company as your tears fall on the keyboard of your PC running Vista.

I wonder if I could program this watch as a lie detector and then figure out how much BS I sling in a day?

Ad = Advertisement, Add = Addition.

Garst @ Nov 20th 2007 2:21PM
I thought this might be something for teenage boys when I saw the picture, but after reading the article, parents might not want to be notified when their kids heart rate isn't normal.
TRAFFICBLOWS @ Nov 20th 2007 3:33PM
Does this tell me when my wife has PMS? I'd buy $1M in stock...
Arlo Gilbert @ Nov 21st 2007 10:46AM
I have a great idea, why don't they link that to my facebook profile without our permission so that everyone in the world can see how I'm feeling at any time during the day.
Creepy! :)
zsm @ Nov 20th 2007 4:19PM
how does it know if grandma just decides to take the watch off for a few min?
