GDC08: Princess Bride devs taking care with license


Blaine Graboyes stays up late worrying about ruining your childhood, and the childhoods of everyone else who loves The Princess Bride. Judging from some early clips of his game adaption we saw at GDC, he's not in any danger of it.

First, a word of warning: Worldwide Biggies' game is most assuredly a casual game. But, if you're a fan of the film and William Goldman's (or, a fan of casual games for that matter) it will probably still be of interest. If you count yourself amongst that first group, producer Graboyes says he's keeping your interest at heart.



"I'm the voice of the vans in the studio. Everybody's sensitive to the brand management issues," he said.

The film is the primary jumping off point for the game, though the whole WWB staff as read Goldman's book. To cover the full range of the experience, the company has created five separate engines, with casual game staples ranging from seek and find games to time management.

They're all presented with animation and voice acting that's magnitudes ahead of what most casual games are using at the moment.

"Our goal is to bust the genre wide open and raise the bar by three or four levels," Graboyes said.
