The DS Life: Sleep Mode

The DS Life is a weekly feature in which we scour the known world for narrative images of Nintendo's handheld and handheld gamers. If you have a photo and a story to match it with, send both to thedslife at dsfanboy dot com.

Like many other three-year-old boys, Kristopher divides his playtime among toy cars, toy trains, and toy things with buttons and lights. When his dad's iPhone isn't available for him to appraise with his tiny, curious fingers, he flips open his Nintendo DS Lite, a hand-me-down from his mother (she now owns a newer edition/color).

Of course, we don't expect to entertain you with just photos of some kid and his DS -- no, we have something much more hilarious planned for you! Jump past the post break and into Kris's crib!

So, here's Kris in his crib, comfortable and sandwiched between two pillows. He's likely playing minigames from Dora Saves the Mermaids or Go, Diego, Go!: Safari Rescue, but he has started playing Brain Age lately, too. Well, he's not so much playing as he is drawing on the screen with whatever's available at the moment.

And here's Kris with his Pikachu stylus, or his Pika pen, as he likes to call it. He likes to draw, so it's no surprise that he took an early liking to the Nintendo DS. As you can see from this shot, he's very proud of the Pika pen.

Annnddd here's Kris fast asleep minutes later, stylus still in his hand. How freakin' cute is that? We wonder how long he was able to snooze in that position ...

Not very long! Wait a minute, isn't that Bleach: The Blade of Fate on his DS? That's a T-rated game! Also, note to self: buy dinosaur pajamas.

Here's another photo of Kris awake and playing with his DS underneath a table in his play room. Now's a good time to mention the Nerf case on his handheld. He has a habit of throwing the system around when he gets bored or wants his mom to change the game, so the foam padding keeps his DS ticking even when it takes a licking. The Nerf case has seen a lot of combat, though, and it's taped onto the system now to keep itself attached.

Oh, and here's Kris out cold again, gripping the portable even in his dreaming state.

We asked Kris's mother, Betty, why her son falls asleep so often while playing with his DS. She responded, "I usually give him his DS after his bath at night and when I'm trying to get him ready for bed. That's why in most of the pics I took, he's in his sleeping clothing. I would leave him to play, and half the time, he would fall asleep with it ... Sometimes, [Kris will] be in a sitting position, and sometimes the DS ends up on his face."

Alright, that makes sense. Let's look at one more photo of Kris going into sleep mode without actually putting his system into sleep mode.

Wow, this guy can sleep anywhere!
