The Wikipedia of EVE Online

CCP Games has officially announced a player-driven wiki project called the EVElopedia which is to be integrated into EVE Online, as well as a new division of the ISD volunteer program, The Yulai Archives & Record Repository Team (YARR).

YARR will oversee the upcoming EVElopedia- a project which aims to create the definitive EVE wiki. Although there are already a number of sources of EVE-related information available to players, the EVElopedia is CCP-sanctioned. The woefully outdated item database will be revamped through this project, and numerous player resources will be added, essentially creating a Wikipedia for the EVE universe.

Although the EVElopedia will be viewable to all players, only paying EVE subscribers will be able to add to and alter the EVElopedia under the auspices of YARR, preventing abuse through trial accounts. Hutch, Vice Admiral of the YARR team, stated in the recent dev blog, "CCP could give you an instruction manual and it would stay up to date for a few months, instead CCP are giving you the tools to make the best manual and information resource EVE has ever had."

EVE Online dev CCP Fear added that the EVElopedia will be accessible through the in-game browser and will be built with MediaWiki, which includes multi-language support.

YARR is presently recruiting volunteers to help run the EVElopedia. Unlike the ISD's more established divisions, YARR does not yet have its own section of the website. For the time being, interested applicants (at least 18 years of age) should email them to request an application at yarr@isd.eve-online.com.
