Massively's Top 5 most-anticipated features of Moria

With Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria releasing in less than a month, there are quite a few things we're excited to see in this first expansion for the game. Most of these favorite changes are well-known for anyone following Moria news, but a few we discovered through the beta. Of course, since the beta NDA has lifted today, we can now discuss everything that excites us about the new content.

Follow along after the cut for our complete list, and stay tuned for more Moria beta info throughout the day.

  • 5. The Balrog. We all loved the Balrog in the movie, and having the opportunity to battle that beast in-game is an exciting venture.

  • 4. Two new classes. Both the Warden and Rune-keeper introduce new game mechanics, essentially making LotRO a new game for the seasoned veterans, and a new prospect for those interested in trying something different.

  • 3. New Trait system. The traits have been revamped and now work much like the item sets in Shadows of Angmar. You can combine Trait sets within certain groups to add extra bonuses to your attributes. This is exciting, as it acts almost like a guide to the most effective combinations, and allows you to maximize your potential.

  • 2. Legendary Items. Having a weapon and armor that can be advanced much like a companion adds a whole new level to the game. Even after our characters are at their max level, they can proceed to concentrate on their own array of unique items. It's like your own little army of items that you can raise yourself.

  • 1. Quest Items leaving inventory bags. That's right. Despite the incredible game mechanic improvements, new areas and new classes, we're most excited about the quest-related items leaving the normal inventory bags and now residing in the quest log itself. This is something we think should have been implemented a long time ago, and it will be incredible to have all that space for stuff that's actually worth money!
