Dell releases Inspiron 1525 in the US
Well it missed a 2007 release by just days, but now Dell's Inspiron 1525 -- upgrade to the 15.4-inch 1521 -- is finally available for purchase in the US, starting at just $500. Of course, it'll cost quite a bit more to configure one of these colorful rigs to a power user's specifications, and even then, you're capped off at a 1,200 x 800 screen resolution being pushed by integrated graphics. Still, even the starter model provides quite a few nice features, including integrated 2 megapixel webcam, travel remote, HDMI port, and perhaps most exciting of all, built-in Wireless USB. You can hit up the Read link for more info and instructions on how to order.

Oooh, cool.... I wonder if the pink will come with an optional 'Hello Kitty' logo.....
joseph @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:29AM
why does the dell website say no webcam available on these models?
Tom H. @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:33AM
Evan, the 1525 also has an HDMI port.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:39AM
I was looking at this article from my yahoo RSS feed on my homepage and it said it starts at just 50$...
RyanTV @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:44AM
they missed the mark AGAIN with their display. people that have been running dells for year with a 1680x1050 panel aren't going to all of the suddent think its a good idea to go to 1440x800.
dell has lost their gotdamn minds.
Zadillo @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:51AM
The blog entry specifically says INITITALLY available with a 1280x800 screen, so I assume this will be the same as the Inspiron 1530, and the 1680x1050 option will be available later. I think it's interesting to see them offering a matte option.
BobTurbo @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:53AM
That res is not so bad though. Many people (esp elderly) set their res lower than that because they think the native resolution is too small.
Chebwa @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:13AM
You might love squinting.
I don't.
Tortri @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:28AM
unless your playing a video game in that case 1680x1050 and 1440x900 wouldn't be so bad then.. But yes people with eye problems just stay with 1280x800
RyanTV @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:59AM
I have 20/20 vision and the need to be productive. I don't play video games, i design graphics, and 1440x800 isn't enough room for people that use their computers for more than dicking around on the internet.
Chebwa @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:20PM
You think anyone is going to buy the lowest end Dell laptop for graphic design? You have to be kidding me. It's not about 20/20 vision. It's about higher resolutions being completely unnecessary in this price range and configuration.
RyanTV @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:25PM
Am i going to use one of these for design? absolutely not. but they have more than enough horsepower to run photoshop and indesign, so i'm sure there are plenty of people that would look at one of these for more than just surfing.
You are missing the point. Dell should have enough forethought to offer the OPTION of a hi resolution screen.
Chebwa @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:10PM
You are missing the point. The consumers interested in a laptop like this will not need a higher resolution. If they did, they'd be browsing a different model with more power.
You can't give every bell and whistle on every product line. Otherwise you'd just end up with one laptop and 50 different options for every component.
Which would actually be very cool. But it's not gonna happen.
Kevin @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:48AM
The screen also comes in Glossy 1440x900 if you try to build online.
Chebwa @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:14AM
I love Dell.
Yeah, I said it. You know you do, too.
Tortri @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:24AM
Has anyone else noticed it has a crappy video card, the intel integrated card
Chebwa @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:28AM
Why are you expecting Dell's low end laptop line to offer up an advanced graphics card? This isn't an XPS. This is a basic, functional laptop with a low price tag for everyday tasks.
Tortri @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:32AM
My 1520 has a Gefore 8600 256MB. Thats why, but i'm just assuming its because this just came out and over time they'll add more hardware options. Unless they want to seperate complete high end from low end..
Andrew @ Jan 3rd 2008 12:05PM
They'll add some nVidia options later, most likely.
Hopefully they'll throw some 45nm CPU's into the mix as well...
SuperPrime @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:22AM
Why doesn't it have the snazzy finishes that the australian version had?
stealth @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:27AM
wireless usb?
OneLove @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:47AM
over priced, over hyped.
packetsniffer @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:53AM
Well, whatever the case with the resolution, I believe we can rest assured that it does not come with "1,200 x 800" under any circumstances.
Jon @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:36AM
The only 1525 I'll ever own is the disk drive from my Commodore 64.
