Ready to get up close and personal with Canon's
VIXIA HF10 camcorder? Think about it, 16GB of on-board flash with SDHC expansion, Canon's 12x lens with optical image stabilization, and 1,920 x 1,080 recordings in AVCHD format. Right, huh? Canon's all about the camcorders this week, check the video and gallery to see why.

HF10 + ps3 + blu ray burner = bliss
joey @ Jan 8th 2008 11:29PM
you dont need a blu-ray burner, all you need is a router or a usb drive (or hard)

How much it cost? Nevermind, I'll take two.

Thanks for the pics. How about a shot with somebody's hand nearby? I can't tell how big it is.
I want to hear how it does in low light. Most of the AVCHD camcorders seem to do poorly in low light.

Check the video... it's right there Silly Rabbit!

Was that there yesterday? How did I miss that? :-)
Thanks -- looks like a nice size. Can't wait to see some reviews of it.

Does this thing not have a firewire port???
Bob @ Jan 9th 2008 2:43AM
You dont need a firewire port, your never capturing the video. Each time you hit record, it creates a new file on the flash drive. So you hook it up via USB and just transfer the files from the camera to your computer.

This thing is so drool-worthy. I'm reading availability in March '08. Start saving now kids. Thank God it has mini-USB which allows me to maintain my resolution to not buy any consumer electronic without mini-USB. .. just my little personal crusade.
RP @ Jan 9th 2008 12:23PM
Similar to my crusade not to buy anything with a memory stick. If only Sony would give in and join the mainstream.
Years from now, when SD cards are 64 GB, we'll look back and laugh at camcorders with tape and hard disks.
Richard @ Jan 9th 2008 7:34AM
From what I've seen of the current crop of AVCHD cams, the quality does not equal tape based HDV. Granted though its a new format getting the kinks worked out and I'm willing to give it a second look. However, for me (and many others) to give up our tape based HDV cams, the image quality must be the same or better; anything else would be a massive step backwards.

This is all cool. Great to see Canon finally getting on the AVC h.264 train for real. But what about that mini camcorder they released some half year ago or so, the one that filmed in HD, on flash, but in silly JPEG compression... Have they come out with any pocket sized AVC cams yet?

This new Canon could be a very good one, but two major drawbacks make it a familial gadget:
- No viewfinder. How is it possible to shoot on snow without a real viewfinder?
- AVCHD: again an interframe format. When an AVC-i (the one that Panasonic announces but does not show off)?
