MacBook Air in the wild... with John Mayer

That's right kids -- the unthinkable has happened. John Mayer, electric-crooner, BlackBerry pusher, ladykiller, and all around bon vivant has gotten his hands on a real, live MacBook Air. Sure, it's not surprising that a celebrity millionaire who's buddy-buddy with Jobs and Co. would have a pre-release model, but it may come as a shock that he's using the new ultraportable Mac to look at photos of himself double-fisting a couple of BlackBerrys. We suppose it's possible that someone has doctored this photo, but highly unlikely.

You do realize that even with the hype, significant price cut on the iPhone, and Apple's aggressive marketing and advertising, the iPhone may still fall shy of the 10 million phones Apple predicted they were going to sell by the end of the this year. This will be especially difficult as the low hanging fruit consumers have already been picked (e.g., Apple fanboys, fashionistas, people whose contracts had recently expired), the economy worsens having the effect of a slowdown in consumer spending, especially on products like iPhones, and new touchscreen phones (see, e.g., Samsung's F490 with 3G/HSDPA, better camera, etc.) are released. By the way, I found it very misleading how Steve Jobs used the smart phone market share to make it seem like the iPhone has more market share than it really does. By AT&T's own classification and a comparison of features (i.e., no push-email, no SyncML, no voice dailing, no 3G or HSDPA, no MMS, no EMS, no USB, no memory card slot, no tethering/not data-capable, cannot open many file types (see word, pdf, excel, powerpoint, etc), no mp3 ringtones, no voice memo, etc.), the iPhone is NOT a smartphone. It is a "fashion phone." In comparison, another fashion phone, the Motorola RAZR, sold 50 million Razrs in its first two years.

Yeah the iPhone was 5th (2nd North America), RIM 4rd (1st North America), Microsoft 3rd, Linux 2nd, and Symbian 1st worldwide (all other smartphone vendors are not even close to them in global sales).
