MSI intros "anion" laptop, power saving Turbo Battery Technology
It looks like MSI has some big plans for CeBIT, if the company's latest news is any indication. The computer-maker is gearing up for two innovative new laptops, both of which are part of its ECOlution "green" line of systems. The first model will bizarrely feature a high concentration of anions -- negatively charged ions which the company believes will "enhance the body's condition, promote nervous stability and recovery from fatigue, and encourage circulation of halted blood." The second, less magical entry from MSI comes in the form of the GX600-08 laptop, which utilizes a new battery design intended to extend life up to 20% by engaging a "Turbo Battery Mode" which automatically adjusts the system's workload to conserve power. We'll undoubtedly be hearing more about these from CeBIT, so keep your eyes peeled.[Via Fareastgizmos]

Oh man! I had all but forgotten about the turbo button PCs use to have!! What a gimmick at the time, push the button and you went from 33mhz to 66mhz!!

Anion sucks, Cation rules! Cation Rules!

I didn't know halted blood was such a big problem...
Reid @ Feb 27th 2008 11:10AM
Halted Blood should be the name of a death metal band.
Longhorn @ Feb 27th 2008 11:14AM
Yawn.

The main selling point of this GX600 is the Trouble Button.
What it does is that when the machine is connected to AC Power, and you hit that button, it will overclock your machine for around 20%.
When it is on Battery Power, that button will switch to Power Saving mode.
Not sure if any one here reads Chinese,
but here's a good introduction of the laptop in a Chinese Computer Discussion Forum

I guess you could use Google Translation to get an idea.

This "anions" bit sounds like the fraudulent ozone gadgets The Sharper Image used to push.
Jimbo @ Feb 27th 2008 1:18PM
I was thinking it sounded like those magnetic bracelets. What a crock. Another thing I want to know is hot they plan to get a high concentration of anions without a high concentration of cations?
phanbouy @ Feb 27th 2008 1:33PM
Crelm Toothpaste! Now with the miracle ingredient Fraudulin!
John Stracke @ Feb 27th 2008 3:06PM
In dentistry, this is known as the Domino Theory.
Hung @ Feb 27th 2008 9:35PM
Public schooling much?
@ John Stracke
"Anions" sounds like the negatively charged atoms that you learned the first day as a frosh. They're supposed to rid your body of free radicals, which require extra electrons to complete pairing. No (and I stress this point) recognized studies have found anti-oxidants useful in reducing the number of free radicals. None at all. That's why the FDA back any products marketing anti-oxidants as cancer-reducing agents, but only approves their sale.
@ Jimbo
They get a high concentration of anions by having a low concentration of cations. What led you to believe the two must be in equilibrium?
(1) Take negatively charged materials that are excellent insulators so they don't lose charge. (2) Don't let them lose charge. (3) ??? (4) Profit.
Hung @ Feb 27th 2008 9:41PM
My bad, the FDA *doesn't back any such products.
I also noticed my remark about public schooling looks smug. I assure you that it serves as a reminder about how the seemingly useless things you learn in high school will occasionally surprise you later in life. NOT that public schooling sucks. I went to public school since all the Catholic schools around me looked down upon co-education, evolution, and pre-marital sex. Damn prudes.

I wonder if it aligns my chi and feng shui's my data?
That would be like, so bitchen.

Wasn't anion the adopted son in arrested development?
phanbouy @ Feb 27th 2008 3:09PM
We sent him to the Milford Academy to teach him a lesson
Hung @ Feb 27th 2008 9:17PM
It was Anyong, the Korean word for "hello," I believe. It's understable that they kept calling him Anyong.
OneLove @ Feb 27th 2008 3:19PM
Anyone who uses "turbo" in a product feature should be flogged.
phanbouy @ Feb 27th 2008 3:30PM
Careful, S&M Monthly's gonna start featuring all turbo all the time if word gets out
dzhiurgis @ Feb 27th 2008 3:45PM
SCiB batteries on March.
sockatume @ Feb 27th 2008 4:13PM
Anion generators are really only good for drawing dust out of the air and sticking it to the generator and all the surrounding surfaces. Good luck with keeping this one clean and cool-runnin.
frankXchange @ Feb 27th 2008 9:00PM
I'm waiting for the MSI "Metachlorian" which helps balance the force.
Kelmon @ Feb 28th 2008 8:00AM
Does it come with a copper bracelet as well?
Maksim @ Feb 29th 2008 10:42AM
I have listed 5 things all new laptops will have In 2010:

Do you think extended battery life should be mentioned as well?
