Eye-Fi SD card cracked, splayed
Damn, that's a lot of technology packed into the tiny wireless Eye-Fi SD card. We're used to seeing cellphones and laptops stripped to the silicon bone but this is something special. Just look at that tiny 2GB Samsung NAND chip and even tinier Atheros ROCm 802.11b/g WiFi module. Hit the read link for all the techie gore.

i wonder how much would this awesome technology be..

What ever happed to that MicroSD Wifi card from Spectec?
Man, that is already farked/slashdotted/dugg
Those sites are horrible!
JK. I call spam on your comment. (this is more spam, I guess)
No one cares if you submit links to Digg.
I meant the site was down when I clicked the link.
what would be really cool, is if sombody would hack this into the samsung P2's main chip and put a web browser on it....
The display's not high enough res for my tastes.
well too bad, I like it...
Or wireless file transfer!
Damn I'm good.
Read link not working
Fascinating gadget.
Where was this 2-3 years ago when it mattered? $2000 camera enthusiasts need not apply..
Sorry, you guys woke the server from it's afternoon nap and it threw a hissy fit. The underpaid elves have done a bit of scurrying to the rescue with their magic sauce and helped it to it's feet (with reduced image quality), so hopefully you can see the images now...
I see what you did there. Your watermark is fabulous!
Great dissection! But where is the antenna? :)
Hm, I still don't get the necessity for a SD Card with a WiFi module. Doesn't the digicam/media player/any other gadget have to support the functionality to use a SD Card as an extension module?
Which products do support this?
No, your camera does not have to support the card, just read the review, everything said there. However it "only" transfers JPEGs it finds on the card to your computer or some online picture service... So it won't work with other cameras.
So if you like to transfer some pictures wireless e.g. studio, party (and then to your projector),... you may find it useful. If not, well other people might find it useful :)
I just wish they would bring it this thing europe.
What a shameless way to promote your site!
:P
Talk to me when there is an EyeFi Compact Flash card for my Cannon 5D. It would be a great deal to send photos to my laptop over spending $1500 for the Cannon Wireless File Transmitter.
Back to eating my cereal.
Simply stick the Eye-Fi into an SD-to-CF converter. I do this with my D3, and although it's not a "supported configuration" according to Eye-Fi, it works like a charm for me. There's an article about it on the IkonTools site.
Got one of these for xmas- LOVE IT. Anything that makes my life easier is welcome at my house.
When I come home from an event where I've taken some photos, I just turn the camera on, set it down and within seconds or minutes everything is transferred to my computer. Done. Waiting for me. If a folder sorted by date.
How about this...a similar card in a mimiSD format for a cell phone to create a wifi hub from your phone. If the wifi chip is that tiny, it should be possible. That way, you can wirelessly teather your iPod touch (or other wifi enabled computer but since this is Engadget, had to mention iXXX somewhere) to a high speed cell broadband connection anywhere!
