Blackberry Curve 8330 comes to Sprint
We had heard whispers about the Blackberry Curve hitting Sprint this month, and it looks like they were dead-on -- say hello to RIM's latest, the Curve 8330, all done up in black. Apart from looking way hotter than the silver version that's made the rounds, you're getting GPS, a 2 megapixel camera with video recording, Bluetooth, "enhanced" web browsing, and the usual suite of Sprint music and TV services. $179 with a two-year contract later this month, says Sprint. One more shot after the break.

It looks pretty nice, but honestly that phone is was too wide.
have you actually held one or are you making assumptions?
Yes, I've actually held the Curve and I think it's way too wide.
its not any wider than your zune80
You're right but the Zune doesn't feel as bulky.
Because its a "real" QWERTY phone. A smart phone for smart people.
Well I managed to learn how to use Suretype on the Pearl. If you're smart enough you can learn how to type fast with the Pearl as well.
Is it possible they can make a pearl sized one with a slide out keyboard?. Kinda like htc's stuff but smaller. To be honest with you I have a pearl and i'm sick of the lame browsing experience (no youtube or streaming video, constant freezing) and sure type does suck it's not good when you type fast, you have to wait a second between presses or you'll repeat the same character.
That's multitap, not sure type. I have a HTC HyTN now, and it's pretty big but it gets the job done.
and your complaining about its width? I have the Pearl , Curve and Tilt. If you ask me..smaller doesnt always mean better.. the Pearl is a pain in the butt.
dammit.. this or the 800. 2 years waiting for a decent phone and 2 come out at almost the same time
what is the best phone from spring to get
same dilemma here, but Ill probably go with the treo 800 as an updated to my ppc6700. The BB plans are too expensive. $30/month with sero is perfect
Wifi?
Oops, I approved this comments hours after posting it...
looks good although I wish they would bring the option to change the trackball color back from the pearl
I don't remember the pearl ever having that option. I did download a free program that did that though.
Search around, I'm sure you can find it.
Sexy.
Is Verizon gonna get the black model also?!
No, Verizon is having theirs out in Silver and also I think no GPS either. damn VZW
No, GPS is disabled, so you get the VZ nav services instead. Shame this does not have WiFi.
FINALLY! I now can replace my 8 year old StarTAC (seriously). I'm glad to see it is in the best color too.
WHOA MAGENTA
I was surprised but I laughed so hard once I realized why. Kudos on that!
To be actually on-topic I like the fact that it's a black Blackberry, not one of those Greyberries.
No WiFi?
While WI-FI would be a neat option, I'd still rather have GPS over WI-FI if a compromise has to be made.
You don't really need WiFi when you have EVDO. I can understand WiFi for a T-mobile Blackberry when all you have is EDGE, but EVDO is speedy enough for anything the Blackberry does (including SprintTV).
Doesn't look like it. Strange though - from what I can tell - the 8310 is GPS/no-wifi, the 8320 is wifi/no-gps and the 8330 is the 8310 in black.
@ Scooby
The TV services provided by Verizon and Sprint run off of another signal... not EVDO.
well wifi is really useful when ur at home..way faster too...but gps is sweet also
Much prefer the Curve to the Pearl - I never got used to the shared buttons on the qwerty keyboard. Best stick to what blackberry really should be!
tethering?
All Sprint BB's tether...
it was announced for TELUS earlier as well as sprint.
no love for canada?
Does "enhanced web browsing" mean EVDO, or does it lack 3G like the at&t curve?
Sexy, I hate having to (forced to) use a Blackberry @ work but I'd love to trade in my Sprint 8830 for the Sprint Curve.
Bleh, this phone is too big.
Anyone know if another version of the 8300 or the upcoming 9900 BB will support BOTH WiFi and GPS??
the chipset supports GPS or wifi. idk if it is technologically limited, limited by battery life, or limited by the dimensions of the phone itself. but phones just dont have both. its wifi or high spped AND gps.
I would buy this if the GPS wasn't subscription-based. One year of free GPS just doesn't cut it. Two would be fine, three would be perfect.
please release this for At+t right now.
THANKS.
Come on engadget, details... Rev 0 or Rev A???
it is Rev 0

there is the fact sheet
i
8830 Curve will be at Bell Mobility this week by April 4th or sooner. Dont buy it until the promo price hits, all Data devices have a voice and data discount, but the REALLY early adopters as in the next few days will not see a data promo. It should be in effect by the 4th which is the official release date. (I sell phones for corporate accounts at a dealer so I have the datails from a few days ago).
$549.95 outright purchase. Subject to change if TELUS price is lower. They are on the verge of launch too.
The first BlackBerry smartphone from Bell with both a full QWERTY keyboard and built-in camera has arrived. Bell is proud to introduce the BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone.
The BlackBerry Curve features clean lines and soft edges and is packed with great features such as trackball navigation. The BlackBerry Curve is also the first BlackBerry smartphone to offer Full Track Music service.
The BlackBerry Curve also supports the following Bell services:
• Full Track Music,
• GPS Nav,
• Windows Live Messenger, and
• Ring tones and screen savers.
Note: Clients can expect to use approximately 1MB of data per song when downloading from the Bell music store to the BlackBerry Curve in addition to the cost of the song. Data usage will come out of their existing data rate plan/feature bundle. Clients without a valid data rate plan or feature will pay an out of bundle charge. Based on clients expected/preferred usage, please ensure they are on the right data plan
Yeah I know its a sprint link, I just thought I would let others know in case it wasn't known.
visit www.mysystempics.com for myhometheaterpics.com just cuz its gadgets.
P.S. It is only the silver version for now that I am aware of.
Sprint customer service says that their Curve will be available in red? Heard anything confirming this?
anybody else noticed how strongly negative the comments were for the announcement for the 8330 coming to verizon vs. the general positive feedback on this feed??
its the same phone...both don't have wifi whats the deal??
I think it's because VZW cripples their phones and ask for extra fees
Man this is so sick! Its truly a calling, the date on the phone is my birthday, maybe i should pick up one of these instead of an iPhone (i know its different carrier, im month-month right now)
is it true that the curve 8330 doesn't have the option to connect via wi-fi? =(
correct
sprint said april 20th when i called them...
now to somehow convince them to give me sero pricing for the blackberry plan...
yeah, not gonna happen. Thats why I wont own a blackberry. RIM could sell a LOT more phones on sprint if they just allowed it to use the same kind of plan I could use for PPC phones. Thats why ill be waiting for the treo 800 this summer. Hopefully the treo has a similar sized case as this BB, because its going to have a really nice screen
Nice phone.
Of course it comes with a prmium $15.00 p.m. for forced use of the RIM servers.
Does anyone know when in April the Curve is supposed to come out?
Will this have "world edition" capabilities?
I hope so, so I can dump my tired Treo650 and get this in time for my trip to Cannes on May11th!
Oh yeah, will gps work in Europe?
No rev. a! So close to perfection.
I called my Sprint B2B sales rep today and she said the launch was supposed to be April 20th but it's been delayed. She had no idea what the date has been moved to.
I've been waiting forever to get on the BB train now that I'm ready there holding it up.
I just foud this as the new release date for the 'Curve'

Sprint has one of the industry’s best open door policies when it comes to releasing their new handsets. A great example is their CTIA announcement where they stated:
“The BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone will be available later this month online at www.sprint.com, through Sprint Telesales, Sprint business sales channels and retail locations for as low as $179.99 with a two-year service agreement, a $170 instant savings credit and $100 mail-in-rebate.”
“Later this month” has been known to change into “later this quarter” and “whenever the hell we want!” So instead of racking our brains trying to decipher exactly what sprint meant it is better just to list the facts.
Fact 1 – The phone has been delayed! Why? The Sprint TV portion of the phone was not working correctly and they did not want angry customers like they had over the botched LG Rumor Release.
This is neither rumor nor speculation and came directly from:
Amy Schiska-Lombard, 913-794-2947
amy.k.schiska@sprint.com
or
Brodeur (for RIM)
Marisa Conway, 212-515-1924
mconway@brodeur.com
Fact 2 – Sprint releases their new handsets and Rate Plans at the beginning of every new rebate period. The current rebate period is 04/20/08 – 06/28/08. This does not mean that they will be releasing the Curve at the beginning of their next rebate period. All it means is that you ALWAYS CHECK THE REBATE FORMS!
Fact 3 – On the current Sprint Rebate Form http://www.nextel.com/assets/pdfs/en/promotions/mir_042008.pdf it has listed the following phones:
Blackberry 8330
Pro 200 by Sanyo
Pro 700 by Sanyo
Z400 by Samsung
Low and behold… None of these were released on 04/20/08. Bottom line… The Blackberry 8330 Curve will be released before 06/28/08.
Fact 4 – The handsets are shipped to the warehouse so naturally Telesales and the www.Sprint.com get them first! But WAIT... There is more! Sprint cannot list them on their website until BrightPoint and their corporate stores have them in stock ready to sell. The ones that get them last are the indirect dealers and the mom & pop shops because they have to get them from their master agents and they get them from BrightPoint.
Fact 5 – If you want to know if the Curve is close to launching then ask the following question:”Does Ensemble or FDT show if the warehouse has created the SKU for the 8330?”
The answer as of today… NO, they have not!
The reason why you see sites http://www.thesprintstore.net/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/5127659/vpcsid/0/SFV/31590 listing the phone for presale is that they ship directly from Sprint’s warehouse through a process called “FAST” or “VAD” ordering! This means that on the day the Curve is released they will be shipping all Pre-Activated and Pre-Upgraded handsets.
Does it have direct connect capabilities?
Curve is going on sale at Best Buy on 05/01/08
I just bought an 8830 on Saturday at a Sprint store in Southern California. I was disappointed to find out from the net after the fact that it does not support many of the features of the Simply Everything plan. (Sprint TV, Music, NFL) You get the idea. I then was checking out info on a better phone and came across this ad from Best Buy. The Curve is in the ad! It's selling for $179.99 after savings with a $59. data plan. The deal goes from 5/1/08-5/30/08. It is to the Best Buy Circular ad for the coming week.
go to bestbuy.com and click on Weekly Ads.
Lets hope this is for real. I am going to stop buy Best Buy and check on it in the morning.
The Blackberry Curves in the Best Buy ad are 8310 and 8320.
I just checked out the weekly add. If you look at the BB for sale and enlarge the image you can see that the BB third from the left is the Sprint Curve. Not sure if that means it will actually be for sale, but it is clearly in the picture.
Hi, everyone. You all seem very opinionated, love it. The phone is available and is shipping Monday 5/12/08.
