Nikon is fleshing out its "
Style Series" of shooters with the
COOLPIX S52 and S52c (pictured) compact cameras. The two cameras are pretty much spec-for-spec identical other than the WiFi capabilities of the S52c which allow it to upload shots wirelessly to services like Flickr or Nikon's own "my Picturetown." Otherwise you're looking at a pair of fairly standard compacts, with 9 megapixel sensors, 3x zoom, optical image stabilization and so forth. Both will be available in May, with the S52 retailing for $250, and the S52c arriving at $280.
whatever?
whatever.
whatever!
what·ev·er : any or any one of a number of things whether specifically known or not.
I'd like something compact like this to complement my DSLR. Can't always carry a DSLR.
Cowon X5 anyone??
But will we also be able to just transfer the pics from the cam to a mac/pc? Or just to Flickr, etc?
Yes you can upload directly to your pc/mac. Even if the camera didn't have direct usb uploading (which I'm failry certain it would), you could always take the memory stick out and use a reader.
Oh, and the flickr uploading, unless they have changed it from the older versions of the camera, is absolute crap. It only works if you first upload a picture to Nikon's Picturetown...I don't think it will have DIRECT Flickr uploading.
Shame -
This is actually quite old news. I picked up the S52 about a month and a half ago. It takes nice photos but is crippled with a long start-up time compared with other models. It also takes forever to actually focus on your subject, sometimes it just won't do it, which will cost you many a quick shots lost to crappy AF circuitry. Lastly, the time between shots is miserable and battery life sucks really, really bad.
I should have returned this camera and picked up a better model from a competing company, I still will pick up another model but I'm stuck with this turd. 03/10
whoo hooo.. mega mega!! hah
