RAmos goes sleek with V8 portable media player
Particularly of late, RAmos has really been exceeding expectations, and it seems to have raised its own bar once again with the easy-on-the-eyes V8. Sporting a svelte, black enclosure and a 4.3-inch display, this portable media player handles MP4, AVI, DivX, RMVB, MP3, WMA and FLAC file formats, boasts a TV output and even includes a text viewer. You'll also notice that it automatically detects rotation and orients the on-screen imagery in response. Per usual, price remains a mystery here, but at least this one is apt to be worth more than whatever change is currently residing in your pocket.

If this doesn't have a buggy/unusable UI, it'd be a miracle.Anyone can buy decent hardware from no-name vendor X, but none of these companies can design UI's/write firmware to save their life.

Chinese iPhoney.

Sure, lets compare everything to it. Why not.

looks pretty good, but i'm impressed by the amazon promo on the 16Gb Zen - £100!
Tim @ Apr 15th 2008 5:27PM

this ramos v8 looks different from the one I found
http://mpx.thethirdmedia.com/article/200702/show75205c20p2.html
also the screen shots are 442x587 or 443x587, which one is the real screenshot?
somethin fishy here
BrianB @ Apr 15th 2008 6:59PM
Looks like a different V8, very plasticky look. I'll find out.

sorry about my last post, it was something else but it was the result when I search for ramos v8.
now it seems to be on ramos site officially.
the pictures are still fishy, two screen mockups with 1000x590, 1000x589 resolution. I dont think it's anything more than some photoshop work.

This thing is pretty slick! I bought a 1st gen Zune for myself and my fiance, and we love them. What's funny, is that this gadget looks almost exactly like the Zune without the translucent casing, with the Disney Mixmax's interface.
No word on size of hdd? Bummer. I bet it's not 30gb...
Quick words on the Zune:
Microsoft Marketplace is a joke.
Weird quirks for resizing/rotating wallpaper images (the site says that the Zune will automatically optimize images to fit...BS. Even when I render an image to be the exact size of the Zune's screen, the Zune will rotate it the wrong way. Render the image on the opposite, and it still rotates it the WRONG WAY. Frustrating.)
Anyway, this thing looks fucking sweet. Give me an 80gb hdd for under $200 and I'm all over it.
telepheedian @ Apr 15th 2008 6:15PM
I think it looks like a Zune 80, with a big glass covering on the controls, and the zunepad axed.
jaalin @ Apr 15th 2008 6:26PM
personally i think it looks more like a nintendo gameboy, but a little thinner, a little smaller, with a color screen, and a big glass covering the controls.
low tech @ Apr 15th 2008 8:46PM
So not like a GameBoy at all?
joe23521 @ Apr 16th 2008 9:58AM
I think it looks like a watermelon, but not round, not naturally grown, not green, not edible, and has a touch screen.
danimal @ Apr 15th 2008 7:04PM
I think it looks like an iPhone turned sideways with the finish of a first-generation Motorola Razr with the icons cribbed directly from an early-model Creative player (that, sadly, never made it to production) and the battery icon is a straight-up rip off from the pink Zune - and that red thing (whatever it is) looks just like a thing on the display of my alarm clock (don't know what it is on there either).
Ethyriel @ Apr 15th 2008 8:47PM
Naw, it looks like an oversized iAudio7.
Either way, it looks great, I hope it fits one of my needs. That means either a 120GB+ HDD considering it supports FLAC, or 16GB+ of flash and OGG support.
blueadept1 @ Apr 15th 2008 8:57PM
Looks like the Samsung P2, if anything: http://www.pmptoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/portable-media-player_samsung_p2-dap.jpg
ClieOS @ Apr 15th 2008 10:38PM
WOW, the GUI is totally copied from iriver E100...lame.
Gus @ Apr 15th 2008 11:35PM
Ramos releases these awesome players and then puts the screws to its customers. The V80 was awesome, and it was gonna have this kickass english firmware upgrade which would be released after new years, then next week, then in a week and a half, then after the chinese new year, and THEN, finally, they say "we are never going to release an english firmware". This after they specifically claimed all over the place that they were going to release it.
Sure, maybe we should have waited until it was released in an english model. Were we suckers? Definitely. Ramos makes some decent hardware, but they really screw over their fanbase. Will I ever buy another Ramos product? Absolutely not.
