3K Longitude 400 Mini-Notebook -- you'll never guess what this reminds us of
Alright peoples, how many Eee PC knockoffs do we really need? Is 10 enough? How about 100? There seems to be no end in sight, and here comes the relatively unknown 3K Computers to give it a whirl. We'd say the first mistake is the 7-inch screen, gotsa stay ahead of the curve. Pair that with the 400MHz processor and a $400 pricetag and we haven't the slightest idea why we'd go in for this little Linux-based boringbook. Oh, wait... nope, we got nothing.

Im slipping im falling I GOTSTA get up!
somebody gotsa get a dikshunairy
Wow, when will they learn how to make a EEE competitor that's actually good?
Made by a psystar company FTW!
$200 and I'll buy one. $150?
Get enuf competitors out there and you'll get your price.
This is the point that I was trying to make in my original post that you did not like.
Ipods are going down in price with more and more competition.
EEE will go down with more competition.
Why does everything have to be called a "knock off" here. You know just as well as I that whenever there is a popular idea or product it is going to be developed by another group {or several groups}. This is one of the factors that drives our economy.
Your reasoning does not change the fact that this looks exactly like an EEEpc.
If they made it look different, it wouldn't be a knock-off... but it's exactly... the... same.
I totally agree with that. I am just saying in the post we are talking up to 100 knockoffs potentially and not every small PC with these type of specs looks like the eee.
So this particular one may be in that category but it sound like from here on out every PC that has a 7" screen is going to be called a knockoff.
@backwards
this looks nothing like an eee pc...
longitude? why would anyone want to make a rip-off of the latitude name of dell's
That is exactly what confused me.
Competition is good Engadget!
Is that thing a frickin' *fingerprint reader mounted onto the monitor*?!
heck, i could buy a better libretto for cheaper
you wanna see what I think of this?

If you have to point out your sarcasm, you probably aren't doing it right.
400mhz processor? I'm back to 1999 here!

hmmm.... everything old is new again!
400mhz pffffft
Oh jeez, I thought there for a moment my calendar was 22 days ahead of me...
Still waiting for the $200.00 EEE PC.
Why bother using decimals when they're nothing but zeroes? :(
It helps emphasizing the price dude
Gotta love it when your cellphone has more processing power.
Finally! I've always wanted a laptop which feature a keyboard larger than the screen.
If the battery life is decent, I could see this selling for, say, $200. But their site doesn't even *mention* battery life.
Here's their product page:

1998 called, it said we can keep its CPU: "DO NOT send it back!!"
A dollar for each mHz? I think not.
humm 400mhz, might run windows 3.1 or 95
Might, you know how advanced those versions are and everything.. :P
But will it run Vista?
pfft. Who cares? Lets say EVERY laptop maker makes an EeePC competitor... and even some new manufacturers join the market.
What will happen? Competition will breed better designs and features at better price points.
I don't see any problem with that.
Sure, it's not as interesting for Engadget and UMPCportal to cover, but that shouldn't be the basis of the evolution of the market.
$400 for 400Mhz? Are they high?!
Might as well just get a better phone with the money, it'll run faster than that! :)
Heaven forbid a company makes a product intended to compete with a successful product produced by a different company!
Seriously Engadget, why is EVERY small laptop made by a minor company an eee-pc ripoff?
I'm starting to think you guys want these machines to stay expensive and exclusive, which is what happens when there's no competition. Obviously the eee-pc is a better laptop. I've got one and I love it, but it's nice to see other companies producing things like it, it's a good thing for the consumer.
I were to manufacture these copies I would call the company ASOS and the laptop Iii instead of Eee which stands for "Innovative to learn, Innovative to work, Innovative to play" but I am not a Chinese
they better stop doing that weed.
I just wanted your readers to have the most up-to-date information. The 3K Longitude 400 UMPC actually has 4GB of Solid State Memory, not 1GB. There must have been a typo somewhere.
Thanks for your coverage.

Another day, another EEE PC competitor. Wow, ASUS really hit something here. Sadly, all the competitors have managed to NOT copy or beat, has been the price. $300, listen to me, THREE HUNDRED = magic price point. Any more, and people will buy the low end regular laptops. $200? Sell like hotcakes.
Our MSRP is actually more flexible than other OEM's with this product. You may find some nice deals on our Longitude 400 UMPC unit once it hits the market next monh. We have plans to release a lower cost unit in the $299 range next quarter.

I read the article and the final comment made about Linux simply shows a definite lack of expertise. I guess I can expect that form people who only have the ability to worship Microsoft. oh my gosh I forgot the worlds majority of major online internet servers could it be because they are reliable,, Oh no horrors be known I can turn my laptop into a server with a couple of tweaks, I run the same kernel the servers use because it is reliable.
Linix is very easy to use even for the beginner,, try the Ubuntu version you can down load it for free and remain free afterwards.

It seems if it's not an EEE its a knockoff. I guess everycar which is not a Ford is a knockoff of Ford?? After all they were the first to mass produce the car as ASUS is the first for the EEE. Does that make Ford superior to Mercedes?? I beg to differ.
LOL... think before you speak guys
I found a 360 view of the RazorBook. Here is the link... it seems to be flash so be patient it's pretty cool.

I would like to see the reviews on battery life. Despite the site does not mention battery life one would have to assume that due to the low power consumption processor you will save battery life. Also people who buy these machines are compiling huge excel sheets. Just students like me who surf the net and type 20 page reports.
Take care all!!
