According to Nokia chief designer Alastair Curtis, Nokia will be offering several -- nay, a "lot" -- more products in the US very soon. "In the next few months," Curtis promised, "operators will carry a lot of new products from us." While Nokia controls 40% of the worldwide handset market, they only have a 10% share in the United States. It seems they're not happy with that and want a bigger piece of the American pie. Bring it on, Nokia. We're ready to see these phones from you, say, in the form of an
E71 or
Tube?
How about a Blackjack/MotoQ style phone with HSDPA, Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 3 megapixel camera, flash, and self-portrait mirror, and speakerphone, all running Symbian? Sign me up for one of THOSE.
The N96 is sweet, but you gotta love the E61's keyboard.
emm... how about the E71 mentioned in the article?
i'm not sure about the 3.5mm jack, but all the other requirements that you want is fulfilled by the E71.
Yes- if and when it is brought to the U.S. Nokia is the Dell of smartphones in other countries (primarily Europe), and their opportunity to lead the smartphone revolution in the U.S is slipping away by the minutes (if its even there anymore at all). iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android, Blackberry. All of these products are making waves that make Nokia's North American presence look paltry in comparison.
And if the Nokia E71 doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, I for one will be very disappointed that Nokia limited the multimedia abilities of any otherwise stellar product.
Have to agree on the E71. What's taking them so long - this thing has been rumored for about nine months now? I wonder if they're experiencing the battery life issues that RIM is struggling with on the BB9000?
Either way, I'd love the E71 in the US. With BB Connect, I can ditch my Curve for a Symbian device again. Ah Nokia - my first love.
Moar handsfree kits!! :p
The sad fact is, Americans buy American products, regardless of how sh1t they are.
They buy Motorola phones
They buy XBox
Nuff said, both are dreadful products/brands compared to the competition, but they carry on buying to supposidly support the ailing American dollar.
A better way would be to make decent products that foreign markets WANT to buy.
They control 40% of the global market. They are doing a pretty good job of making stuff that people want to buy.
No we don't. Look at the car market also I hear there is this product called the Wii that is doing pretty well in America.
Not true. I'm American, I research and buy the best product, regardless of who makes it. This anti-foreigner sentiment is dumb.
Not to change the subject, but how is the XBox dreadful compared to the competition? What competition? The Wii is a novelty that wears off after a few days. The PS3 is a great game console, as long as you don't want to play any games.
Or are you going to trot out this old "hardware failure" line? I've been operating a 360 since just a few weeks after launch and I haven't had one problem yet. I'd be interested to see how many of these people reporting multiple bricked XBoxes are leaving them crammed into their entertainment center without proper ventilation while they play for 16 hours straight in their parents' basement.
And before you label me a fanboy (which may or may not be true), I've got all three consoles and I'd say I probably put in 8 times as much play on the XBox as I do on either of the others. In fact, I bet I haven't turned on my P-O-S-3 four times in the past six months. It's an absolute dud with no online presence whatsoever.
Hahaha, motorola CPUs and Xbox parts are all manufactured in Asia. Even if Americans WANTED to, they'd be very hard pressed to buy any products manufactured in America since almost all electronics manufacturing has moved to Asia.
Why is email me CHECKED by default??!! How do I disable it before i start getting spammed?

Back when the US was CDMA-land Nokia didn't get involved and focus on faster growing global GSM-markets alone, but now that it's all quickly becoming GSM/3G in the US too they find themselves without the name recognition and brand loyalty they have everywhere else.
Umm... Where are you getting your 'Quickly becoming GSM' numbers from?
Because last time I checked, GSM still sucked anywhere but the major metropolitan areas of the country. Why do you think Verizon is the #1 provider for the US Gov?
not really true about nokia and cdma, nokia doesn't like playing well with others. they got tired of qualcomms demands and they used to be the number one phone sold on at&t wireless, cingular and t-mobile but the carriers (read cingular/new at&t) started asking them to customize it for them too much and nokia knows they can make phones better than the carriers can. at&t wants the cheapest possible thing with what they tell nokia (and other manufactures) in so they can mark it up astronomical amounts. look at the non tv version of the lg vu, why is it 170.00 more than the iphone???
Please don't fool yourself into thinking the US gov. picks service providers based on quality. We send people into space with equipment from THE LOWEST BIDDER. Verizon could possibly be the #1 provider for the US Gov because of lobbying done on behalf of Qualcomm and the CDMA lobbying group.
NOKIA E90 with US 3G PLEASE!!!
ah yes, because the US Govt makes brilliant decisions when it comes to spending money - they really are cutting edge. Good choice of example.
how bout the nokia n95 8gig or the n96 on att or tmobile over here so i dont have to spend and arm and a leg on an unlocked phone. i'm tired of my windows mobile phone but i cant bring myself to pay 5-700 for a unlocked n-series. i've always been a big fan of nokia phones, all of my previous phone were nokia's and all still work unlike the motorola's, and lg's most other people i know have.
I saw many American stars use Blackberry.
E71 is good, not low to Blackberry QWERTY phones.
