Dell boils "hip" down to $699 Mike Ming Inspiron 1525 laptops
You know you're in for a treat any time your favorite gargantuan Texas-based computer company claims to have captured the "downtown art scene" and "youth culture" on a laptop lid, but we've gotta give Dell credit for these new designs courtesy of Mike Ming. Unfortunately, the new "Bunch O Surfers" and "Sea Sky" (pictured) looks have been tacked onto Dell's boring-as-could-be Inspiron 1525 budget laptop. But hey, not bad at all for $699, especially considering the 3GB of RAM that comes standard. Another shot after the break.

Who vomited on my laptop?
you bought this laptop? that was quick.
you idiot he meant he bought the 1525 and that one looks like his with someone's lunch on it
on a similar note I think this is Dell's attempt to outdo HP's imprints which I think they failed at
Judge's Ruling: Vomit.
I did not buy the laptop, i simply am stating that all dell laptops look the same and that this one is different as it looks like someones decided to throw up an evening of mixers and tacos on my laptop.
board meeting:
"well, boys, what should we do to revolutionize the low end laptop market?"
"improve specs?"
*laughter*
"improve quality?"
*guffaws*
"remove bloatware?"
*sound of pants unzipping*
"let's doodle on it"
*silence and then serious nodding*
"yeah, doodles. the way of the future."
Yeah, I'll say that comment wins.
still trying to make the connection with doodling and pants unzippering. did the doodle patterns get created by streams of pee?
well, the board was laughing at these completely ludicrous suggestions. the laughing was getting stronger and stronger in sequence, so i figured to top it off, i would do what got the most laughs from the girls i would date....
*maintains innocent look*
"Sssssswing n a Miss!" Instead, they should have done 70s style New York City Graffiti. Hey, its not to late. Just make sure to send my consultant fee to Engadget, they know how to find me ;^)...
oh dear god.
Slightly unrelated, but the mentioned specs for the laptop in the write-up mentioned it having 3GB of RAM, which left me asking:
"Wouldn't the 2GB/1GB stick combination negate DDR?"
Sorry, but I'd rather have 2GB paired for DDR than to have an asynchronous 3GB, anyone else with me?
No
My legs are different sizes, which negates my Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) ability.
Two different-sized memories (2GB and 1GB) would negate DDR for a laptop as well.
I got a D in computer architecture, by the way.
pulvers: DDR != Dual Channel
Just to clarify
DDR= Double Data Rate not Dual Channel.
Not to mention the fact that this Laptop uses DDR2, it's also mentioned on the website that it IS in Dual Channel mode.
My mistake - I knew what I was talking about but just threw out the wrong term >_<
I need more sleep ^_^
So, how can it be in dual channel mode if the capacities don't match?
It could have four slots, then have two one GB sticks in Dual Channel and two 512MB sticks in dual channel.
Never seen a laptop with 4 mem slots though. I guess they exist.
'Hipsters' and 'Dells'... these are a few of my favorite Mings!
i see what you did there
FAIL!!! Seriously the artist edition of the hp pavilion look way better... The should have tried that on the xps instead of the inspiron.
Amen to that! I thought HP Artist's edition the minute I saw this, and the Artist's Edition is much nice looking!
can't agree more!
Woah now, Dell is super cool with their water colored laptops. Wait lets open it up an....o no... it still fails. Seriously If dell is going to let some graphic artist doodle on their lids, then at least let him or her have more input than a bored highschooler with a black sharpie.
These look fairly vile to me, but no one's forcing me to buy, which is just as well ;)
Still, different strokes and all – so I'm happy for those who like 'em to buy 'em.
Wow.. looks cool --- except for the big ugly DELL in the center.
I think this looks cheap and crappy.
This is just a response to HP's design (it looks a lot like HP laptop lids, only this looks horrible)
Who is Mike Ming?
he's the son of Mike Hunt
who in turn is related to all these guys

my favorite listing is "Harry R & Gloria J Wiener"
Reminds me of my first grade teacher's husband... Mrs. Dick was married to Mr. Harry Dick. True story.
Mike needs to get a new job ... wow that's ugly I just looked at this website the rest isn't any better
Any 'artist' that's willing to design 'art' nicely around an ugly circle with 'dell' in it should have his 'artist papers' revoked.
Inspired by the Sidewalks of San Francisco
Mike Ming is actually a really great artist, this is a disappointing representation.
Art on laptops is a dead-end concept, maybe these companies will figure that out at some point.
Looks very Okami. Except kinda ugly.
painting swirls and paisleys on computers seems kind of like painting animals on rocks.
looks awesome...
beautiful...
Looks good for $699. I mean the specs. They should release a version without the art on the cover. Not all of us have the same tastes in art.
I;m about to get one but I'll be sticking to black not this pukefest
