I'm surprised that Engadget hasn't posted on Microsofts restrictions on what sort of hardware qualifies for an XP license on the cheap.
That's usually right up your alley. If anyone's interested, they're pretty extreme restrictions.

You know what I want, a cheap mac. I'm a pc person, I swear by them, I hate macs. Yet, I want to screw around with OSX. Thats right, I want a mac, a mac that doesn't cost twice as much as its pc counterpart. Please, give me a 400 dollar mac. I tried to install OSX 10 in two of my pc's, yet my sata drives were not being recognized. I have made fun of macs and mac owners for a long time, but Leopard has grabbed my interest. So please, let me have a decently priced mac.

I know a lot of people in the UK, haven't purchased an iPhone just because it doesn't suppport 3G, but when it does they will buy it the day it comes.
The only thing stopping me is the 3G and tack tile feedback.
He will likely disscuss the way forward and possibilites in developing software for the iPhone and his vision, not the 3G iPhone!!!
This is the first time developers will be able to official develop something for this new platform of device.

It is the physical feedback you get from a device you either touch it or input something like a letter, you may like get a physical vibration from the device.
This is useful to let you know if you have inputed the right letter instead of just typing on a flat surface.

Any idea when this supposed "3G iPhone" will be released?
I was *THIS* close to picking up an iPhone last Sunday because it was going to be a birthday present from my parents. I asked the AT&T guy at checkout whether or not 3G was coming out since I heard about all the rumors. Of course, he had no idea and stated it won't be out for another couple of years. Then again, maybe he really was uninformed?
Maybe I was being selfish when I put out the idea to "wait" to get an iPhone and purchase a plan, but perhaps I was just being smart and looking ahead? I really hope the 3G iPhone comes out within the next month and a half already. As much as I may sound like a fanboy or materialistic, I'm more of a fan of seeing something new and interesting.

You're right yet ironically most of the UK doesn't support 3G. I'm like 20 miles from London and live in a big town. No 3G on ANY network.
People want the phone to support it despite the network not... Kinda ironic really...

The iPhone will be out next month. AT&T employees work on commission, so of course he is not going to tell you that you should wait for the 3G iPhone, even if he knew it was coming out.

The UK is setup for 3G. I live in Plymouth (right in the sticks) and there's a 3G service down here and throughout the country from what I've looked into. Not sure what problems you've been having.

Nope. I really want to see them go down. If they drop enough there's a good chance I'll get one as my college computer this fall semester.

I don't think you are the only one, but there isn't such a big crowd following as for other macs like the notebooks and iMacs.

I think they would have more of a following if the price dropped.
I'd just like to see the mini released with an optional GPU upgrade, at least on par with the macbooks. This is the only thing currently keeping me from popping for one to replace my old PC at home.

I'm waiting for a better GPU amd ESATA. the mini would be a good (mini) server and a awesome MythTV front-end.
The mini is already an excellent HTPC. I'm running 720p HD on it with zero pain (1.83 MHz, 1 GB, 80 GB). It cranks on everything SD too.

Perhaps it's a pipe dream, but if anything, I'd like the price on Mac Minis to be the same, and for some sort of miniATX tower to come out in the $750 range.

Yeah. That seems like the rational conclusion. But unless "new Macs" includes a headless mini tower, Apple's only options are either useless to me (just no good for games) or out of my price range (someone buy me a Mac Pro?).

A 3G iPhone? Did I miss the 2nd gen iPhone? How can there be a 3G iPhone if there was never a 2G iPhone??? I realize there are 3G, 4G, 5G and even 5.5G iPods, but what was the 2G iPhone???
The 2G iPhone was out for 1 week and then was called back for a huge fualte in hardware and software.......
Actually, I was joking. a "3G" refers to the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology.

When people refer to the 3G iPhone, they dont mean Third Generation as in the Third Generation of a product. They are refering to the iPhones Mobile Capability.
3G does technically mean Third Generation in this case but it is just to do with the iPhones features.
e.g. 3G (Mobile) includes several new features over 2G and 2.5G, but the main ones are Video Calling and Broadband speed mobile internet.
So no you didnt miss out on the Second Generation iPhone.

With a failure such as this, it's no wonder you have no idea about any revisions.
3G refers to a high-speed data access standard, not the revision. The 3G iPhone is also refered to as the iPhone 2.0, where 2.0 is the revision, not a communication standard.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. Every other Apple product has been referred to in it's generation, such as the 5G iPod. It just seems weird to have an iPhone with 3G appear to be the 3rd generation when it's only the second generation.

I am surprised how many nerds just let their heads explode because of the possibility that someone was confused about a reference to the second version of an iphone being called 3G.
To those nerds, I ask: Are you so wrapped up in your own little worlds that you find it utterly inconceivable that a person might not know all the details of a particular cell phone?
There's a lot of stuff in the world. Nobody is an expert at all of it. No need to declare "epic fail" because you think a person is not as much of an iphone expert as you are. Not to mention you didn't even catch the subtler context of the original post.

No kidding, man. I was just thinking it was sortof quaint and refreshing to think that maybe there was somebody here that wasn't already bored by the notion of a 3G iPhone.
We, the engadget community, represent a very tiny part of the population; outsiders exist. Believe it or not, some people don't know or care to know about any of this gadget stuff.
It was nice to think, albeit briefly, that somebody here had other priorities. As far as the "epic fail" comments go: well, it's hard to sound condescending when your message is "Haw haw. You don't read engadget every twenty-seven seconds."

I am just hoping for a Mac Tower that I can pickup for under $2500.
I see the market that wants more than an iMac, but doesn't want to pay the 50% premium over a PC as the biggest gap in Apple's marketing strategy.
If they release desktop computer that is upgradable (other than simply RAM) that could compete in price with the $1k - $1500 PC's Apple would see its market share jump.
Is there any hope that this mid priced upgradable desktop from Apple will ever become a possibility? (and yes I do know about hackintosh/OSx86, but it's not the same)
Pete - Go to Apple's online store, configure a low end Mac Pro, and choose a single quad core processor instead of two. Bam, there's your sub-$2500 Mac tower.

Amen. With education discount and all configurable options set to the least expensive option, you can get a Mac Pro for $2149. If we could get that into the sub-$2000 range, I'd be a happy camper.
And I think you're right: demand for a midrange, upgradeable, headless Mac seems pretty huge.
