CECT Wrist watch phone is borderline wearable
Generally speaking, watch phones are rarely useful. Not so much because of lackluster hardware or incompatible drivers, but due to the fact that no one with any dignity will ever be caught wearing one. The CECT Wrist, however, actually isn't a ghastly looking device at all, and although it's far from being a Sea-Dweller, we can't help but give props for the semi-stylish design. Specs wise, the unit boasts GSM connectivity, a 1.3-inch color LCD, FM radio tuner, multimedia player, 1.3-megapixel camera, handsfree support (Bluetooth) and a battery good for 150 minutes of continuous yappin'. Not too terribly shabby for £150.13 ($293), wouldn't you agree?

?? There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with how it looks.
Ayman @ May 22nd 2008 4:32AM
Thats what he said
he was generalizing the other freak watch phones
Shinigami @ May 22nd 2008 4:39AM
There is nothing right with piece of plastic that looks like "Made in China, paid $10 for it" which costs $300.
Leslie @ May 22nd 2008 6:27AM
watch is not made by cect... it is the D287i watch and is only $235 here: http://www.chinagrabber.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1567&HS=1
Matt Brydon @ May 22nd 2008 8:53AM
To all of you saying this isnt made by cect, you are correct, however the other suggestions are also incorrect, it you read engadget regularly (as i would expect its contributors to do to be honest) you would know that this is nothing more than a knock off of Van Der Led's WM2 model as featured on this very site in a piece by Thomas Ricker (http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/09/van-der-leds-wm2-cellphone-is-slayer-approved/) in fact, the digitalrise knockoff even uses van der led's original product renderings!
.... and yea..... i want one (of the real ones) hahahaha!
stephany @ May 22nd 2008 9:17AM
i got the D287i and and pretty happy with it.
Hollie @ May 22nd 2008 9:41AM
You can get it for $185.00 with free worldwide shipping here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13058~r.94125401
Not too bad at all! Especially compared to them disgusting pale green ones i have seen before.
James Lee @ May 22nd 2008 10:00AM
@hollie - which pale greens have you seen b4... sound like you work for dx... since there is a good possiblility you do, i bough two phones from dealextreme and the screen went blank on one and the other one was not triband so could not use in the USA... dx did nothing to assist in return so no i am out $300+
Hollie @ May 22nd 2008 10:36AM
Nope, i don't work for Dx, you should know they don't have to advertise their website i just thought it would be nice to give people a cheap source for them.
Not my fault (or theirs; if you where too stupid to check if the phone was tri-band before you got it and if you want that refund you probably didn't follow their instructions, they have refunded me for things as little as a dollar when needed, just just have to follow their instructions.)
james lee @ May 22nd 2008 11:38AM
okay, well lets get this straight - the are good for selling cheap $1-2 gadgets... but NOT expensive $200 cell phones ....
N4PALM @ May 22nd 2008 4:30AM
"looking at the number keyboard watch phone,I bet you are thrill now. so why are you still wait?it is action time."
Is nice!
Ayman @ May 22nd 2008 4:33AM
Dick Tracey would be proud
stephany @ May 22nd 2008 9:17AM
and what about 007?
Ezekielthirty5 @ May 22nd 2008 4:35AM
For the Friggin love of GOd, how the hell am I supposed to text.
OKay,okay I know this is for all you "Get Smart" series lovers
but if thats the case wheres my shoe phone, necktie, belt and hankerchief phone and most importantly wheres my Pistol phone?
Blaine Oliver @ May 22nd 2008 4:40AM
'importantly wheres my Pistol phone?'
Unfortunatley, Jimmy was rather annoyed when his wife didnt text him back, luckily his phone was a pistol, so he went round and killed her.
The lesson, just dont mix guns and phones.
Chris @ May 22nd 2008 4:40AM
This is borderline wearable if you're a complete d-bag.
JLTate @ May 22nd 2008 4:58AM
And by "d-bag", I hope you mean "hopelessly lovable overweight nerd".
Jaydizz @ May 22nd 2008 11:40AM
"Hold on a sec, gotta answer my watch."
Just doesn't sound right.
Jack @ May 22nd 2008 5:26AM
I think you would look a twunt when answering it
Sirius @ May 22nd 2008 5:32AM
Which is why it's good this thing has bluetooth handsfree support :)
Ayman @ May 23rd 2008 6:47PM
Still Better than "Get Smart" having a shoe for a phone...(still cool though)
TareX @ May 22nd 2008 5:39AM
Well if only this was invented 7 years ago when cellphones were a pain to carry around. I'm serious. It would be neat though if there was a toned-down classy version of this watch-phone.
Regardless, I do not see any internet browsing in the future of watch phones (screen will always be too small). And therefore, I do not see any future for watch phones.
Plothole @ May 23rd 2008 5:03AM
"screen will always be too small"
Not necessarily. Eventually these devices might sport a reasonably sized flexible OLED or eInk display.
DirtyHarry @ May 22nd 2008 6:11AM
i personally cant wait for the contact lens cinema.
0oo and a pizza that looks down on you for wanting it.
Dr.Frigo @ May 22nd 2008 6:18AM
You lack fantasy mate.
Unforgivable for a full blooded geek.
It could be supplied with a foldable screen or maybe an hologram monitor or 3d glasses and maybe a virtual keyboard if a rollable one would be too encoumbering, (all wireless of course).
Then if the price would still be the same I may consider buying it.
Maybe.
Jon2309 @ May 22nd 2008 6:28AM
After reading these comments, I feel disappointed with myself for wanting one.
=(
gad get @ May 22nd 2008 6:54AM
Wear this, and people are gonna look at you and say "What a dork, look at that strange, yet pricey looking, and now that I think of it admittedly futuristic, stylish watch that's actually an FM radio, a camera, and a bluetooth-equipped phone at the same time.... SUCH a dork! I oughta hammer him in the teeth... and steal his watch! That'll show him!"
Robert Thomas @ May 22nd 2008 10:17AM

Warning DX @ May 22nd 2008 10:16AM
Warning: I also bought several items from DX that were either not as described or broke. They would not repair / exchange so i lost out of a good chunk of change since paypal ruled in their favor. i do not recommend.
JohnM @ May 22nd 2008 7:11AM
I can see it now... Holding your cup of coffee, reading the morning paper... and the watchphone starts to ring... but of course it's set to silent for the night... so it starts to vibrate... ARG...DOH!!!! A very hot lap in the morning!
gad get @ May 22nd 2008 7:25AM
A what?!
gad get @ May 22nd 2008 7:28AM

john @ May 22nd 2008 11:07AM
Does it only to GPRS? Not even EDGE?
(not for the watch itself, for tethering ... so, also, does its bluetooth do DUN? DUN that works with a Nokia N810?)
I could see using it as a tethering gateway for my tablet... or for a MID... but only if it's faster than just GPRS.
john @ May 22nd 2008 11:29AM
Oh, and, how do you charge it? Could you conceivably charge it while wearing it? Or is the power plug somewhere that you have to remove it in order to do so?
Tyson @ May 22nd 2008 12:23PM
seriously a camera...just think about it

A picture ON a wrist would be nice. I think it looks nice. I'm wearing my Polar F55 (heart rate monitor) watch right now. The kids I teach all thought it was some cool fancy watch - which it is, but it's pretty bulky...
I'm not up on all the mobile phone tech chatter, so I couldn't tell if this thing would even work with Verizon anyway.
