iriver T7 Volcano DAP now shipping
We first spotted iriver's Volcano back at CES, and it looks like the stick-shaped DAP is finally shipping in Europe under the T7 model number. Specs are the same as we had in January: 2 or 4GB, OLED display, MP3 / WMA / ASF/ Ogg, FM, and voice recording in a variety of colors. €35 ($54) for the 2GB, €50 ($77) for the 4GB. Let's hope we get word on an official US release with some more dollar-friendly pricing soon, eh?

Seems like a cool little device and not a bad price for all it does though I would like to see it in large sizes (8gb or 16gb would be nice).
computer.dude.28 @ Jun 10th 2008 7:10PM
cool, little device, but that image better not be of the final shipping product because I think it would be pretty embarassing to ship it with the buttons upside-down compared to the screen.
Kris @ Jun 10th 2008 7:21PM
The controls are not upside down. Actually, if you look at the picture again the screen displays text _both_ ways so it can be oriented in any fashion. Only one button, the M, would appear upside down depending on what side you hold it.

Kris
Nice idea but..
if you hold it upside-down, the text might still be the right side up, but it's also *still* backwards. It only reads correctly one way. Also, the left side text (bottom) looks a little bit dimmer. This suggests a reflection effect.

Epic Fail!!!!
It is not an iPhone. Not iPhone=Fail!!!!!

Jimmy @ Jun 10th 2008 5:03PM
This is what the 1st generation iPod shuffle should have been. The price is not bad either. But will it play doom? (so sorry about that, i couldn't help myself)
rlynd3 @ Jun 10th 2008 6:29PM
please try...
Sean @ Jun 10th 2008 5:06PM
Looks like a photochop since the controls are oriented upside down compared to the interface text.
Gregory Kimball @ Jun 10th 2008 5:45PM
Here, I fixed it for you:

Much better, thank you.
computer.dude.28 @ Jun 10th 2008 6:50PM

spass @ Jun 10th 2008 5:10PM
If you want more dollar-friendly prices, you know what you Americans have to do...
00mitch00 @ Jun 10th 2008 5:25PM
mmmmm, iriver goodiness :P
I'm a bit of a sucker for irivers, particularly their older ones (the H120 was an epic DAP compared to the other *cough* offerings at the time).
sound quality is usually top-notch
Bevo4138 @ Jun 10th 2008 6:25PM
Wait- I'm confused- if it says "Music," you're pregnant, "Radio," you're not?
DG @ Jun 10th 2008 6:42PM
Funniest thing I've heard today.
Minilap @ Jun 10th 2008 6:53PM
If sound quality is on par with clix I'll get the 4Gb
GenBanks @ Jun 10th 2008 7:47PM
What's the thing sticking out of the top?
Steffen Jobbs @ Jun 11th 2008 12:01AM
That thing sticking out is the DAP's whang which is also known as a USB male connector.
That music player is not an Apple iPod, ergo....
iRiver T7 Volcano = SUBLIME FAIL
It's a rather ugly device somewhat akin to a Pez dispenser or disposable butane lighter. Don't show this in public.
tux @ Jun 11th 2008 12:52PM
See this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iriver_H300_series
Ugly no? But I had one, and it was awesome.
It was out loooong before your iPods had colour screens. I could look at photos and a few firmware upgrades later, videos. Could an iPod colour play videos with a firmware upgrade? Nope, you had to buy a whole new device.
Oh, and it also had USB-OTG for downloading files off of a camera, memory stick or other MP3 players without a computer. Apple charged £70 for an accessory just to do that with a camera.
So when you've never heard of iriver before and think they're just trying to steal your iPhone glory, they've actually been around longer than the iPod.
The name iRiver was first used iMP-100 in November 2000
The name iPod wasn't used until its first announcement in 2001
Suck on that
Brian @ Jun 11th 2008 3:20AM
You'r a idiot, it is a USB male connector.
GenBanks @ Jun 11th 2008 7:07AM
No Brian, I'm afraid you're the idiot. I asked because it looked unusual from the gold stuff on it. Looks sort of like a sim card. It's fair enough thing to ask, dont be a wanker.
peter monkey @ Jun 10th 2008 8:27PM
i thought dap stood for something else :)
Information Central @ Jun 11th 2008 3:37AM
No AAC? WTF?
Ondskan @ Jun 11th 2008 4:21PM
This remember me a lot of the samsung U3
ericcons @ Jun 11th 2008 5:29PM
I've had 2 iRiver MP3 players (errr, DAPs) and the sound quality of them blows away the 2 iPods I've had. They get much louder, rarely distort, and the highs and lows are so much cleaner. I've had friends make fun of me cause I don't have an iPod and then I have them listen to my iRiver and that shuts them up really fast. And no, I do not listen to them with stock headphones. So if you care about audio quality, get an iRiver.... tho be warned, from my experience the interface with iRivers is pretty crappy. But I'm willing to pay that price for music that sounds like it should.
