Portable Gaming Solutions offers Xbox 360 laptops to the daring
So you're hankering for a little Halo on the go but you're not willing to put your skills to the test and build an Xbox 360 laptop yourself? Never fear -- we've got just the sketchy web store for you. For just $550, a one-man shop in Kansas called Portable Gaming Solutions promises to convert your 360 into a suitcase-sized 15-inch laptop complete with keyboard and speakers. The web site has quite a few pictures and videos of the mod in action, but we're definitely a little wary of sending our 360 off into the wild blue yonder -- although even Ben Heck had to get started somehow. Anyone daring enough to take the plunge? Video after the break.

MrFairladyz @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:00PM

Pochi @ Jun 23rd 2008 11:13PM
@MrFairladyz
I like the "half assed reply to comment" and then "here is the real comment, just in reply to the first one so I am higher up on the page."
Jean @ Jun 24th 2008 1:46AM
you're kidding right? I use my memory card all the time.
petey @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:45PM
good luck getting that past the TSA
Richard @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:58PM
Agree, TSA will think might be a suitcase bomb, since they think MacBook Air can use as weapon on board due to their sharp edge.
Lars @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:56PM
Forget the TSA... trying to use a giant box like that on a plane sounds like a nightmare.
Neeko @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:49PM
Even tho it looks ugly i would def consider purchasing this. Just for the portability. I wonder what the TV-out options are tho?
And if it could somehow do double duty as a laptop maybe pack in some EEEpc action that would be an awesome gaming machine.
KiraXD @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:51PM
LoL... check out those testimonials... if i wasnt sure i wanted one... after reading the testimonials... im totally sold.
"omg that's so cool"- sniperspartan97
"...I wanna buy one!"-hockeyb213
yeah....its that awesome.
Lars @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:00PM
Haha, "...I wanna buy one!" is not a testimonial. LOL
PsychOfMSE @ Jun 23rd 2008 10:22PM
Thank you captain obvious.
AlekZander @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:54PM
I thought the 360 had a ginormous power brick. Whether that's internalized or not, it doesn't make the laptop very portable.
Tankd @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:58PM
its ugly, looks like something from the first era of PCs. Why turn my awesome looking 360 into something that the TSA will do a body cavity search on ya for. I'll wait for Ben Heck to produce one for the public.
Bender @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:59PM
gaz you are simply a nutcase can you stop cumming when you think of tiger woods? and refering to yourself in 3rd person isn't even cool. or is it the fact that you're partially blind that messes up your expression? either way this thing is a total mess i mean if it runs on batteries how long will they last? i'm all for modding but this is too bulky and im sure IF it has a battery that it's not very promising.
bob sakamano @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:02PM
ben heck link not working!!!!!?!?!?
computer.dude.28 @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:42PM
No, Ben Heck link working..
mrpoo @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:06PM
They will throw in a complementary ugly ass toiletry bag with each order. Man, that's not nice looking.
BY @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:06PM
Couldn't the guy have removed his screaming baby while we was filming this? If the XBOX 360 sounds like an airplane hanger, this thing sounds like a helipad. The box doesn't have proper ventilation, which means INSTANT RROD. Pass.
Grant @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:23PM
i dunno, he has the sound pick-up super high on the cam so you can even hear him click the button to open the disk tray. But chances are for this this to have proper venting, it would need a couple of fans.
Grant @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:20PM
Just send my your 360 and $600 cash and i'll turn it into a walking, flame shooting cyborg!
computer.dude.28 @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:40PM
So if you look at the main menu on the left of this page
http://portablegamingsolutions.com/originalwebsite.html
you'll find Xbox 360. Now, if you click testimonials, watch as Playstation 2, 3, and Nintendo Wii Magically appear!!
bobmundo123 @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:47PM
nice... now when they say laptop... that means portability... on the go... battery life?
michas_pi @ Jun 23rd 2008 10:42PM
You have to lug around a car battery.
Before anyone starts complaining about this, remember, if Tony Stark can do it, so can you.
Batteries/arc reactor sold separately.
snowglyder @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:50PM
"...if it runs on batteries how long will they last?"
That's what she said.
Mike @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:56PM
Yeah what happens when you WILL get your RRoD? Can you ship this bad boy back to microsoft? Right...
Taylor @ Jun 23rd 2008 10:08PM
You won't be able to see it, so you'll send it back to Portable Gaming Solutions, where they'll send it to microsoft and keep your xbox!
SoccerTJ @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:16PM
Lol i was flying to flordia for spring break and i brought my 360 so i would play live .,...I had it in my carry on so i knew it was safe...TSA was like ...wtf is this...please open the box and put it throught security..lol seriosly i alomosted missed my flight due to them asking questions...
I wouldnt spend this much on it..I would rather try to make it and get mad then makeing something that....Ugly and with a small keyboard i deff like bens version better he could make alot of money off of it if he make it about 1 in slimmer..witch would probley take some "Tampering" with the 360's highest points..
Robert @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:23PM
Are you kidding me even if it is legit I cant keep my 360 from overheating with 10 feet of open space on each side I'm current using:
6 box fans
3 ceiling fans
1 radiator out of a mack truck
and 10bags of ice a day to keep mine working ;)
kal326 @ Jun 24th 2008 9:58AM
Maybe you should try moving it outside of the volcano? Seriously, the 360 puts off some heat I give you that, but if you having that much of a problem maybe you should look into dusting. I've got a 2yr+ old 360 that sits in an entertainment center with maybe 5" of clearance around it and its never had a problem. The air around it gets up to around 93F, but never had an RROD and only after play GTA4 for a while have I ever heard the fans spin up loud enough to notice while playing a game.
giuliop @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:26PM
Wow, Engadget, is linking different words to different posts in the same sentence a new enlightenment or you've always done things so, uhm, intelligently?
klepto88 @ Jun 24th 2008 12:56AM
Shut up... ... just shut up.
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:07PM
Eh, sounds cool... But such a thing would instantly void the warranty instantly... And knowing the issues with the 360... If that thing went kaput, it's kaput for good.
:/
Sim @ Jun 24th 2008 9:24AM
instantly!
STNC @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:45PM
HA! I live in Kansas, but I dont have a 360...
dos @ Jun 23rd 2008 11:08PM
Engadget has Ben Heck on staff so they can't be enthusiastic about other ugly hacked together portable game systems- only his.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Jun 24th 2008 12:10AM
It's very Ironicthat he's put itinto a PS3 carry case. Just like the one I have. Hmmm, wonder how close to Ben's design 'internally' it is?
Any takers?
Harrison @ Jun 24th 2008 1:56AM
Or you could spend your time to hack, copy and burn a copy of the OS and install it onto a laptop.
Nah, that would make too much sense. XD
neofolklore @ Jun 24th 2008 8:19AM
I'm not sure which insult that diminishes your intelligence works best here.
Mojo_Yugen @ Jun 24th 2008 9:39AM
I like these two quotes from their site...
"You have all the features of the non-portable xbox 360 like internet via the ethernet connection (hard wire)"
"But that's not all if your lucky you will be able to pick up a wire-less internet signal and..."
Man, you are going to have to be really lucky to pick up that 'wire-less' signal with your 'hard wire' ethernet port.
josephroseph @ Jun 24th 2008 12:25PM
Making the 360 even fuglier is quite an accomplishment ... and they call that a laptop? Why not just strap a 51'' LCD to a box and gas generator and call it portable? That's idea is copyrighted.
Ethan @ Jun 24th 2008 12:54PM
