Sure, it might shoot 720p video, but you aren't gonna catch indie filmmakers capturing the next low-budget masterpiece on
Kodak's new Zi6 HD pocket video camera. The camera is Kodak's response to
Pure Digital's Flip and Creative's
Vado, complete with upright form factor, YouTube friendliness, simple as could be interface, a flip-out USB plug (with some surprising spring action), and, of course, totally shoddy video quality. The camera is powered by a pair of AA batteries, sports a 2.4-inch LCD, and can switch between VGA video, 30fps HD and 60fps HD. It'll sell for $180 in September, in black or pink, but there's only 128MB of memory on board -- you'll have to spring for an SD card if you want to do any substantial shooting.

a me too, also ran product which from the listed specs does not do enough to raise the bar which is the flip. sorry - jmhop.

I don't believe Flip has H.264. This makes the Kodak MUCH better. I've used it (unlike the retards here at Engadet) and I must say it blows Flip out of the water.

Does not raise the bar from the Flip? Have you seen video recorded on a Flip? It's most certainly not 60FPS in HD. Nor does it have a 2.4" display.
Flip is great (I own one), but this thing beats the Flip in every possible way. I want one.

Shoddy quality? Have you even tried it out? Its H.264 I used this thing and was blown away by the quality - puts Flip to shame. Its video is as good as a Sony HD camcorder (but it doesn't have the optical zoom).

same quality as a sony HD? what a riot. you work for kodak marketing? if this thing is so great why did kodak need to RIP OFF the exact for factor from flip? oh yea thats right because it is a rip off. and yes is does have 720p but the flip video quality is very good already so who cares? go suck your mamas jock strap.

The specs seem amazing for that price, but it looks like it has that horrible joystick found on some SonyEricsson phones, which is really a shame, since otherwise this seems like an excellent device for an amazing price.

I ordered the Flip Mino yesterday as an addon to my DLSR camera bag to do some video notes that can be posted on YouTube:

Once these things drop to $100 I'm in. Perfect party cam.

Is Engadget just swallowing my comments, or am I doing something wrong?

"...and, of course, totally shoddy video quality."
I'd love to see some A/B comparisons between this camera and the Flip series and a higher-end camcorder. Gizmodo's writeup mentions that the footage is H.264 and actually rather impressive for the price.
