HTC Victor gets de-glitzed, unboxed

We actually rather like the Tumbler-like stealth rear surface of the HTC Touch Diamond, but if you're trying to roll a little more Wayne, a more straightlaced edition dubbed "Victor" announced back in May with a flat rear end is now shipping. Apart from that it doesn't look like there's anything new going on here, so we'll see if any Stateside carriers offer this version any time soon.

"That's HOT! i want one"
That's what she said, but she wasn't talking about this HTC Victor thingamabob.
Fred @ Jul 18th 2008 3:30AM
If Sprint brings this version over the pond, they may keep me for a while.
projekt84 @ Jul 17th 2008 11:06AM
what is taking this phone so long to come out stateside?
Mr.Tech @ Jul 17th 2008 1:54PM
FCC and 2-3 months of US Customs
Dave @ Jul 17th 2008 11:08AM
how about GSM? :)
kjb434 @ Jul 17th 2008 12:12PM
They do have a GSM version. You just can't get it at a US GSM carrier.
You'll have to get an unlocked overseas version until the exclusivity contract runs out (typically 6-9 months).
Dave @ Jul 17th 2008 12:26PM
well, I meant US GSM....I dont really count getting 2 out of ATT's three bands as counting, especially since in some markets it drastically kills reception not having that extra band...
Greg Spruce @ Jul 17th 2008 11:11AM
Is that dual headset action?
OneLove @ Jul 17th 2008 11:24AM
you get headphones with it
chrisaroz @ Jul 17th 2008 11:14AM
I prefer this one.
Anthony @ Jul 17th 2008 11:20AM
Telus is using this version I believe. Check out their 360 degree view on their web site.
CP @ Jul 17th 2008 11:20AM
that looks like it'd be a lot more comfortable in my pocket than the other version
bored analyst @ Jul 17th 2008 3:17PM
Just had my hands on a store demo unit with the faceted back. Gotta say that while you can clearly see the edges, you have to run a fingernail over them to feel them and the overall protrusion is barely noticeable. BUT, I've not yet had a hands on with the back which accompanies the extended life battery, so, we'll see how far it sticks out then.
David Phillipps @ Jul 17th 2008 3:23PM
I still like the diamond back better.
retro77 @ Jul 17th 2008 11:39AM
Still waiting for a US carrier to snag these......*cough* Verizon *cough*
lil_azn_luvr @ Jul 17th 2008 11:40AM
are those headset lyk wireless?
they look kool
blitzkrieg999 @ Jul 17th 2008 11:45AM
Rather vague comments made on Hofo suggest this version has less memory than the regular Diamond (128 vs 192), though nobody seems to have a source on this
Sarig @ Jul 17th 2008 12:04PM
Options are always nice :) I'm holding out for SE Xperia and Touch Pro to be released, but depending on how they'll be priced compared to Diamond *shrugs* who knows ;)
KilgoreTrout @ Jul 17th 2008 12:26PM
I have had an HTC diamond in my hands for a couple of hours and since then I started to love my N95 (8GB) more than ever
Sarig @ Jul 17th 2008 1:16PM
...okay
Mind telling us why? (;
KilgoreTrout @ Jul 18th 2008 8:17PM
Yes I can tell you why:
Because EVERYTHING you can do with the diamond can be done better and easier with the N95 and most thing you can do with the N95 you can only dream of doing with a diamond.
Just a very ew exemples:
1) Camera & video cam can't even be compared (different league altogether),
2) The number and the quality of downloadable apps, programs and games (n-gage included) and the hardware "ecosystem"
3) my GPS (now turn by turn) can actually be used, and I use it often instead of the one integrated in my car system, while the one on the diamond seems made just for entertrainement.
4)I have double as much memory (8gigs instead of 4)
5) My browser, VOIP capability are much better and stable , also because the N)% finds stable wifi connections where the diamond insist on using network cells.
6) the N95 is a much better PMP (slide shows, MUSIC, films ) and besides it has got really impressive stereo speakers ( just like the quality of the camera/videocam, the speakers are hard to belive before you hear them).
Better syncronization possibilities (BT,IR, USB, wifi ) united to an incomparably better PC software make the N95 much easier to use.
There is a lot more but I'm tired.
I thought of buying the diamond because I like the idea of the touch screen , but once you have both of them in your hand , you immediatly notice how the N95 feels better built, more solid, a bit heavier maybe , but just...BETTER

Those headphones look an awful lot like a certain company's bluetooth headset...
BlowURmindBowel @ Jul 17th 2008 12:37PM
Meh, I will probably end up getting a touch pro or Xperia, but not for like a year or longer (probably will get something that is newer that either of those when the time comes).
I have an AT&T tilt unlocked on T-Mob, prob won't upgrade my handset until well after T-Mob launches their nation wide 3G (sooner than you thought huh?)...
I am completely happy with my Tilt, I honestly don't see the point of having internet much faster than EDGE on a hand held (with the exception of tethering to a laptop), It's not like I'm downloading torrents onto my phone or something...
And I sure as hell am glad I'm not stuck on AT&T's network, 1 bazillion iPhone users on the same network = connection speeds in the toilet 3G or not!
BlowURmindBowel @ Jul 17th 2008 12:38PM
Oh, and I now see that those appear to be BT or possibly wired headphones that come with it.
And here I was hoping that this phone came ready to double-douche right out of the box! ;)
4saken @ Jul 17th 2008 12:41PM
looks like t-mobile germany is allready selling this thing as the mda compact IV:

WHY. IN. THE. HELL. DID. HTC. EXCLUDE. A. MEMORY SLOT!!?!?!?!?!!
Sarig @ Jul 17th 2008 2:03PM
HTC Touch Diamond (and that thing), 4gb inbuilt, no memory card
HTC Touch Pro, fuck all inbuilt, memory card
Yeah, annoying, but I suppose they wanted something more than just the keyboard to differentiate them.
zach @ Jul 17th 2008 1:36PM
The box still calls it the touch diamond...
Ken @ Jul 17th 2008 1:42PM
Cute Dark Knight references
blitzkrieg999 @ Jul 17th 2008 2:33PM
The headphones are wired, not wireless. Find any of the Touch Diamond unboxing posts and you'll see what I mean.
palaciofreire @ Jul 17th 2008 3:02PM
I'd buy one if I had the money. Will it come in American GSM flavor?
Huey @ Jul 18th 2008 6:22AM
Victor only has 128MB of DDR RAM where as the original Diamond has 192MB (64MB dedicated to graphics acceleration in the Qualcomm chip).
