Now that MSI's Wind has (
finally)
started shipping out to eager customers, we're anxious to hear how you all like them. As was the case with HP's heralded
2133 Mini-Note, we're confident that you early adopters are champing at the bit to let loose some opinions here. In the end, was it worth the wait? Was it worth the asking price? It is nimble enough? Even if so, what would make the Wind an even bigger threat in the quickly growing netbook realm? Take all the time you need to get it all our, we're here for you.

Discontinue it?
deyanimay @ Jul 25th 2008 7:35PM
I'm still waiting for "How would you change the Apple 3G iPhone."
GatgetMan @ Jul 26th 2008 12:10AM
Aren't all the "iPhone 3G" articles of late a response to "How would you change the iPhone?"
Dragod @ Jul 25th 2008 6:35PM
Is it "Wind" as in "The wind was blowing hard", or "wind" as in "I wind the rope around the poll"?
I thought it was Wind as in moving air, but on G4, Kevin Pereira says the other kind of wind...
Affe @ Jul 25th 2008 7:04PM
I believe it is an acronym for "Wi-Fi Network Device". Not sure if that is what you are asking.
nate @ Jul 25th 2008 7:07PM
he means: "How do I pronounce it?"
Krush @ Jul 25th 2008 7:12PM
I don't have ALL the answers .... stop asking.
Justin @ Jul 25th 2008 7:28PM
I always thought it was MSI Wind as in "OH NO THE WIND BLEW AWAY MY PAPER!" because on msi's website I always see things fly around and the sky... so i assume it was the wind...
Jason @ Jul 25th 2008 7:43PM
@affe - wouldn't that be WFND?
Jason @ Jul 25th 2008 7:45PM
You can hear the Wind. You can feel the Wind. But you don't know how much it blows.
Travis @ Jul 25th 2008 8:01PM
Kevin is an idiot.
GiF @ Jul 25th 2008 8:12PM
Well, if their idea is to copy Apple's MacBook Air, then it would be pronounced wind, like air.
If it's a wind-up laptop or if they just ran out of good names, it would be called wind as in wind-up.
Cassini @ Jul 25th 2008 10:24PM
"You can hear the Wind. You can feel the Wind. But you don't know how much it blows."
And if you drop it, you break Wind.
Steffen Jobbs @ Jul 26th 2008 12:35AM
Wind is what comes from eating too many Mexican refried beans. Meaning "to pass Wind." Phffffffft....Ahhh....I just made a Wind and it smells so sweet.
They better not even consider an article on how to change the iPhone. The mortals here are too incompetent to suggest changes. Only the iPhone gods at Apple are qualified do that.
TNP @ Jul 26th 2008 4:03AM
"...on G4..."
You've answered your own question.
fressshhh @ Jul 25th 2008 6:35PM
7" screen, NOT using the same casing of course. Also 3g.
Khattab @ Jul 25th 2008 6:38PM
- Built-in 3G
- Higher Resolution on the same screen
- HDMI or DisplayPort !!!
- 2 GB Ram
- DualCore Atom (if it will be released in 3Q.)
Shinigami @ Jul 25th 2008 6:46PM
Khattab! I totally agree, though I'd still prefer 3G as an option or as a USB modem since I can't use it and don't want to pay extra for it. Any kind of extra.
But I totally agree with the rest.
Zoesch @ Jul 25th 2008 11:19PM
Do that and also add a trackpoint and a butterfly keyboard like the Thinkpad 701C and I'm more than sold.
TNP @ Jul 26th 2008 4:06AM
Display Port would be sweet. Damn D-Sub cabal keepin' us all down, yo!
PrimoLevinas @ Jul 26th 2008 7:52AM
When it comes to 3G support, I am totally satisfied with bluetooth connectivity to my mobile phone for use as a modem. Of course, this is probably due to the relatively high costs of data plans here in germany and therefore lack of heavy usage.
Fanfoot @ Jul 26th 2008 11:09AM
Assume you mean 3G Data? Since everybody here is using a different standard, they'd have to pick AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. I'd rather have a PCMCIA card slot to put whatever modem I want in the thing...
Nick Ritch @ Jul 27th 2008 12:10PM
I agree with the 3g. The ram is hella easy to upgrade so no complaints on the 1 gb. I hate the placement of the function key and control key on the left they should be switched so the ctrl key is on the bottom left instead of the function key. A little bit bigger track pad and or a track nipple. 2 separate mouse buttons. The shared button sucks. I love how easy it is to change things inside. also maybe touchscreen with Gps and convertible to tablet.
But I really love my wind so far. In fact this message is being typed on my wind.
ntw1103 @ Jul 25th 2008 6:39PM
I would give it a pointer nub. it is worthless(to me) without one. :)
mike @ Jul 25th 2008 8:33PM
Your a nub!
ntw1103 @ Jul 25th 2008 8:39PM
Low ranked? hmm strange, it asked what I would change, so I stated what I would change. I wasn't mean about it and still low ranked... (watch this will get low ranked too.)
Ignatius @ Jul 25th 2008 9:06PM
Probably because you called it worthless. However, I have used a pointer nub before and find them vastly superior to the touchpads...
GatgetMan @ Jul 26th 2008 12:17AM
That's what SHE said...
Metkis @ Jul 26th 2008 5:10AM
I'd like to personally thank everyone who voted his comment up to 'highest rating', some reason that irony gave me the giggles.
LondonConsultant @ Jul 26th 2008 5:21AM
The ThinkPad X100 (8.9" netbook with TrackPoint) would do nicely...
Pochi @ Jul 25th 2008 6:41PM
SDD?
JR @ Jul 25th 2008 6:47PM
Or SSD even?
Ayle @ Jul 25th 2008 7:38PM
STD?
Pochi @ Jul 25th 2008 8:07PM
As long as it's not HDD, I'll take any combination of three other letters.
thedesolate1 @ Jul 25th 2008 8:24PM
It already has a Standard Disk Drive....
Shinigami @ Jul 25th 2008 6:44PM
I'd throw it out xD
Just kidding. I don't own one. And I got a damn good reason for that - don't need a second laptop :)
But there is a thing I'd LOVE in this kind of devices - rotate-able display, it doesn't have to be touch-screen or multi-touch (I'd love that too, but its not really required). Thats first.
Second - I'd love if they had Atom 330 double-core CPU :)
Third - GPS please!
Fourth - 30gb HDD please! Its a minimum for me, I have 30gb in my mp3 player, changing to 80gb soon (X-Fi player... died for me, no real X-Fi inside).
Fifth (you know, I can make a looong wishlist) - XP please! I know that linux thing is nice and usable but I would still prefer good old XP.
Sixth - I'm certain many would love build-in 3G or 3.5G but I don't have these networks in my country (ok, in my country, in my city only, for RIDICULOUS price).
Oh and last thing - link to specs of -the- device inside the news pretty please!
You can as well ignore me, since I don't plan on getting a second laptop any time soon, and when I get one, it will have at least 17 rotate-able touch-recognizing inches of graphic wonderfulness xD
Have fun answering! Oh and I don't think I can't answer because I don't own it. I'm posting this because these are factors stopping me from getting one of these things.

Cam @ Jul 25th 2008 8:03PM
Too lazy too look for specs, but not lazy enough to write a long winded unnecessary wishlist.
HighTeckRedNeck @ Jul 25th 2008 8:47PM
I'll second -- third -- whatever it is now. I would love to have one. I thought about buying one, and got to the point of pulling out my wallet. Want.
...But, I can't find a way to justify buying a fifth laptop. I mean ... the other four still work and all have good batteries. Maybe I should temporarily break one?
Persian @ Jul 25th 2008 11:46PM
Umm it has an 80 gig hdd standard and the 500 dollar one comes with XP...
soo.. yeah
Eugene @ Jul 25th 2008 6:51PM
@Shinigami
It already has a 80GB HDD.
tony @ Jul 25th 2008 6:55PM
and there's an xp version as well.
Shinigami @ Jul 25th 2008 6:58PM
And thats why I'd love *specs* link in the news (too lazy to look for it xD )
phobic99 @ Jul 25th 2008 6:52PM
I love my Wind and couldn't imagine a smaller screen size. The only thing I'd change with it for the time being is the 3-cell battery. I know bigger ones are coming out but 2.5 hours is brutal.
Mine seems to run OS X and Vista (yes, Vista) very well so I'm pleased.
Ryan @ Jul 25th 2008 7:06PM
Well you're in luck then, as the six cells are available as of today. There are numerous retailers on eBay selling them, and MWAVE has also started selling them on their website for $560.
phobic99 @ Jul 25th 2008 7:20PM
Well I already have a Wind now. I'm just waiting on the batteries sold separately.
Ingersoll @ Jul 25th 2008 7:42PM
Actually the 6 cells are still NOT available. Neither version is in stock on MSI's own site and the 6 cell is showing no availability until August. I spoke with a "live chat" operator on mwave and the 6 cell claim there is either an error or a misrepresentation.
Melay @ Jul 27th 2008 12:47AM
does it really run os x? or is it just, "i could easily upgrade to os x but i just love my linux /win xp"?
Aismodel @ Jul 25th 2008 6:54PM
@Shinigami
It already has XP as well, frankly the model shipping is the XP model only I believe? Perhaps you should look at the specs before you soo bitterly complain?
mykie @ Jul 25th 2008 6:57PM
Make a green one!
