Project: Alien Mouse gets your arm into it

Mizanur Rahman is clearly sick and tired of traditional mousing devices. So sick and tired, in fact, that he's kicked out a rendering of the Project: Alien Mouse. In short, this decidedly gigantic mouse shoots for ergonomics by providing a place for your wrist, lower arm and maybe your elbow if you're a small enough person. We'll be honest, all those gel cushions sure look comfy from here, but the amount of brain energy that would be required to use it kind of puts a damper on the whole deal.

Let's hope the price is as ergonomic as the mouse..
Reader @ Jul 25th 2008 4:35PM
Ergonomic: "The applied science of equipment design, as for the workplace, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort"
Economic: "pertaining to the production, distribution, and use of income, wealth, and commodities"
But I agree with the sentiment, hopefully it is priced well because I'd love to try it.

snorgffha what? huh? oh sorry I dozed off.
Kurian @ Jul 26th 2008 12:09AM
Disappointing. I was expecting some kind of Gauntlet.
maff @ Jul 26th 2008 5:16PM
Gauntlet? yeah, inbuilt C64 emulation would be cool!
Kaiser-Machead @ Jul 25th 2008 3:04PM
Without the bionic grip, repulsor unit and snarky guidance from Jarvis, who is left to market this thing to?
Kell @ Jul 25th 2008 3:10PM
You'd market it to the compulsive porn watcher with carpal tunnel.
Jason @ Jul 25th 2008 6:36PM
I know, we'll target people with expendable income!
hiko36 @ Jul 25th 2008 8:43PM
@ Kell
I don't think his Carpal Tunnel is stemming from the mouse though...
Frun @ Jul 25th 2008 3:11PM
It looks like something that was fashoned from bits of a Klingon uniform.
Kell @ Jul 25th 2008 3:20PM
Do those red wings make it fly?
tiuk @ Jul 25th 2008 4:27PM
I was wracking my brain to come up with a succinct summary of what it looks like.
Thank you.
gerrrg @ Jul 25th 2008 3:13PM
Skip the mouse, go straight to touch screen.
Danakin @ Jul 25th 2008 3:23PM
what brain power?
Step 1: Place hand on mouse
Step 2: Move mouse
swingin' dick hero @ Jul 25th 2008 4:09PM
You lost me at 1...
..Now what am I doing here? Nana, hello?
Robot Overlord @ Jul 25th 2008 4:56PM
3. ?????
4. Profit!
giuliop @ Jul 25th 2008 7:01PM
I was trying to refrain from commenting, but since you've brought it up... Yes, it is evident that someone here finds that "amount of energy" too much for their brain.
Andrew Prashad @ Jul 25th 2008 3:23PM
Does anyone else think that this kinda looks like the organism from fl0w? (the downloadable sixaxis game for the PS3?)
PunkInDrublic @ Jul 25th 2008 3:25PM
I'm going to need a bigger desk...
jivetrky @ Jul 25th 2008 6:24PM
This was my thought as well. Who sits at a desk where there arm overhangs it all the way up to the elbow or more? I just don't see how a mouse that large would ever be practical on 95% of people's desks.
Paul @ Jul 25th 2008 3:30PM
Don't know why people think this thing is big - if you check out the read link, you'll see that the whole thing fits in your hand.
swingin' dick hero @ Jul 25th 2008 4:14PM
I clicked the read link because of your comment and looked at the pictures. Well.. It still is twice as long as your normal mouse and a bit wider. Now ain't that larger? Or what kind of mouse do you use anyway? :P
Redbeaver @ Jul 25th 2008 3:33PM
this thing has a massager in it too??? lol
iHoppipolla @ Jul 25th 2008 3:34PM
Is this just a concept?
I see no release date/price.
Imran Hussain @ Jul 25th 2008 3:37PM
Seems as if it'll be more expensive then your average mouse
scharfy @ Jul 25th 2008 3:42PM
Yeah. It's wicked-cool looking, and my wrist will feel better... but can I still deliver teh major noob pwnage?
HOOPER @ Jul 25th 2008 4:05PM
THIS IS SPARTA
Clasifyd @ Jul 25th 2008 4:09PM
I really like this mouse. I've had aspirations to engineer something together similar, albeit much less flashy, for quite some time. The added support to wrist/forearm combined with a high mouse speed would make this GREAT for FPSs in my opinion. The stability would make for great precision, while you would have little loss in precision because everything would be more 'solid'. Two thumbs up from me.
swingin' dick hero @ Jul 25th 2008 4:17PM
This is Engadget! And nothing of the content here is worthy jacking off to. I suggest you visit a porn site or your mothers bedroom.

with wings for extra protection so you'l feel safe and forget that it is there

I nominate this comment as best comment ever. Thanks! :D
purdue.comp @ Jul 25th 2008 5:15PM
this would only mean more n more frags....im gonna PWN chinese guys in the far east.... xD
rutsy5 @ Jul 25th 2008 5:56PM
as long as your high ping doesn't get you first ;-)
Mustaine @ Jul 26th 2008 5:38PM
Hi Ping....think that's the Chinese player who sniped me a few times in COD
Jeremy @ Jul 25th 2008 5:51PM
I like the idea.
It would require more physical and mental effort to use which would suck initially for lazy people, but be fine for more active users.
I remember back in the days of playing HL2DM hyped up on chips and chocolate and literally chucking my Razer Copperhead off the desk from jolting... you know... from the adrenaline and excitement.
Buckingham @ Jul 25th 2008 5:57PM
Another designer who is annoyed by the current design and so designs his own, and not realizing his problem doesn't apply to everybody else.
rutsy5 @ Jul 25th 2008 6:06PM
Sillygadget, didn't you even hit your own read link? There is a render showing a hand on the mouse. the large pad is for the heel of your palm, the little one at the end is for the base of your forearm. Your forearm and hand together would have to be approximately nine inches long if you wanted to put your elbow on it
Rick @ Jul 25th 2008 7:41PM
You would figure a designer would publish legible and properly sized graphic files to his website.
Dave Chappelle @ Jul 25th 2008 11:13PM
Lol, i reckon i could fly that thing.
i wanna use it on WARHAWK!!!
Beldayven @ Jul 26th 2008 12:14PM
I would love to get my hands on that mouse, any word on whether or not it will be made?
Mizanur Rahman @ Jul 26th 2008 12:40PM
whoa okay i designed this thing how the hell did it get on here? and i all fairness it is just a concept idea and it was just a show off peice from a very long three years at uni... though nice comments about wanking and having no space to do so in my room for some reason i dont have that trouble.
Miz Rah.
alvin @ Jul 26th 2008 8:51PM
What's 'deception' doing in the tagline?
BratPAQ @ Jul 28th 2008 7:49AM
the design is complicated but this image makes it simple to understand how to use it: http://www.mizrah.co.uk/alienmouse2 if you'll still have problem using this mouse then maybe you shouldnt be using your computer at all, which requires far greater brain energy than using the mouse >_>
