Taijia's do-it-all PSP-860S handheld looks, smells cheap
Okay, so we're trying not to judge this book by its cover, but Taijia's PSP-860S just reeks of chintzy. The handheld gaming PMP not only plays back the elusive MP4 file format, but it also snaps presumably lackluster still shots with its 2-megapixel camera. You'll also find 1GB / 2GB of built-in RAM, a USB port, AV in / out, miniSD expansion slot and some form of emulation application. If you're not dozing by now, you may actually care that it'll only run you 399 yuan ($59) / 499 yuan ($73).

Looks crap.
"You'll also find 1GB / 2GB of built-in RAM"
--really now?
Probably flash RAM. This actually isn't so bad if it wasn't so crappy looking.
oh wow! It's a PSP too!
For that price it isn't TERRIBLE but it isn't great either
I am always confused when enadget writers post about something that they refer to in a negative way. I get it when it is a hotly anticipated item that proves to be a bore, but why would we want to read about something that sucks from product concept? If the product/subject is so not worth writing about, spare us the post.
Because it's enjoyable to listen to Engadget rip apart a crappy product - thats why! :)
$60??? How about put it in a McDonald's kids meal and call it slightly useful.
I bet they won't call it the psp-860s for too long. I bet Sony would have a problem with name infringement.
Am I missing something? That sounds INCREDIBLY interesting. And a micro SD slot as well? I want one right now. If it's chintzy, for that price, I'll chuck it.
And with an emulator to boot... We seem to be the only people who see this thing as useful... Especially for sub $100
Isn't PSP a copyright of Sony?? How can Taijia just use this name??
It isnt using the name thats a problem. Getting away with it is.
I don't think it would be an issue. If they simply called it a "PSP" then yes, I see a problem. However, since it looks to be a model number, like companies put on everything, I don't see how Sony could cry about it and not have a frivolous lawsuit.
We're talking about China here. Last I heard, they don't believe in copyrights.
Sweet!!!
We don't need any MP4 player reviews, since they all are the same.
So now I know an egg weighs about 50g. I wish every article would refer to weight in "eggs". If someone had told me my Dell 17" laptop was more than 60 eggs, I'd have never bought it.
lol so this thing weighs as much as 2 eggs. Kinda makes sense to refer to things in terms of eggs, but then again I just use the pound. I know what a pound feels like, which is about 450 grams, so this thing is less than a quarter pound...Not bad at all. Still not getting it though.
Yeah, a pound is 9 eggs in real money :-)
Turns out my Dell laptop is 72 eggs, I mean come on...how many chickens do you need to make a laptop?
Anyone know of a good 17" laptop that is sub-50 eggs? That's the sweetspot for me.
for $60 i actually think its not bad! i mean, how many other crappy forgetable mp3 players cost that much and only have 1 gb and a usb plug? this is also packing games, av, micro sd, and a cam. i think its cool. but i still wont be picking one up. only reason being that i already have something that does all this. its called my cell phone. and unfortunately for taijia, i think most other people already have one too.
All I know is that guy or (kid) with that thing in his hands is a lard face... Look at his huge swollen hands...
Linux. If I can run linux on it or other open system I bought it.
I can see them takin FULL and obvious advantage of the PSP-860s name's similarity with the Sony PSP. That is, until people catch on that their stocks plumet. Maybe worth 30 bucks, but that's about it.
