xTablet T8700 left alone in a pool with stranger, does indeed work under water
Poor xTablet. First it's used as a hammer and now it's submerged under water by an accented man in a wetsuit. In the latest test of the xTablet T8700, the guys over at RuggedPCReview swam gingerly with the machine all the while tapping away at its screen, amazed that it continued to work, submerged and "without bubbles." The Jacque Cousteau-like narration had us hoping that a shark (or even a furtive sea turtle) would come along to make things a bit more exciting, but all we saw was some creepy whispering, scuba gear, and uncomfortable silence. We mean no harm to the diver, we just felt as though something really, really bad was about to happen. Video after the break.

And I thought that installing a WLAN hotspot to my swimming pool was useless!
Vista is not water proof!
OSx must be then right? Its interface is already Aqua-fied ;-)
Well, actually, the wifi signals won't go through water. Just attach a floating USB wifi adapter to this though. We did it for our autonomous submarine, and it works fairly well, although the wiring on the USB cable is weird so it's not that reliable.
wow...that is awesome !!!! however, it will break eventually, cuz it has windows installed on it.....just not my type...
P.S: not a mac fanboy.......just an every day linux user....its stable...
Yes, since installing Linux injects waterproofing silicon all over the PC.
I can't believe you think linux is stable. You sir, are an idiot.
This is the most awful, annoying comment I have seen in months.
What an ass.
I love how there is always the jackass that has to say something about Windows. I use Windows, Mac, and Linux everyday - but you know what??? WHO F**N cares!
Run Photoshop CS3 or Crysis on your Linux box w/o wine or some other emulator - oops you cant, so now what? All OS have their drawbacks - live with it and shut up about the OSX, Windows, Linux clatter.
WE DON'T CARE WHAT OS YOU USE!!
what is up w/ all these jasons?
anyway, your "complaint" about not using wine is just ludicrous. putting restrictions on what to use? Photoshop CS3 runs flawlessly in Linux w/ Wine.
putting restrictions on things that work perfectly fine is just childish.
@Arseny
read this:

STOP GIVING LINUX USERS A BAD NAME
dont even mention Linux unless you have good reason to. and NEVER say it like you are better than everyone just because you use it.
@ the OTHER Jason
I didn't put a "restriction" on anything. All I said was that all OS have their limitations. So you can use wine to run Photoshop - no sh*t I use it all the time. That's not the point of my post. The point its that no OS is perfect.
Try to play TF2 on Linux. Runs like 30 FPS slower then it does on Vista. That's a limitation. How is that childish?
@ other jason
Well you said to remove wine.
You didnt criticize wine, but instead you criticized the overall platform.
Yes it is not perfect but saying that you have to use one piece of software to run another is bad is kinda ridiculous.
I know all OS's have their shortcomings, read the link I gave.
but saying Wine is a bad thing just rubs me the wrong way.
I couldn't see a single image on the screen...
(waits for the FAKE commenters...)
Perhaps there is some sort of anti-glare coating that kept the image visible to the operator but not the camera.
Am going to be scuba diving in the Caribbean in 2 weeks!
...oh, FAKE! computer is off.
Yeah, but will it blend?
Never seen underwater blender before.
Try the engine of a speedboat.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing that. You've got me stumped.
Will you blend?
..........Yes.
have the will it blend guys ever tried to blend the blender?
Golden Shellback or expensive xTablet T8700.. you pick
Golden Shellback ftw... amazing stuff, don't know how well it can withstand pressure underwater though.
http://golden-shellback.com/
For those of you who didn't know about it.
big difference between water/splash resistant to waterproof. while many electronics including cameras are splash resistance or some may be submerged up to 20 feet...it doesn't mean you can dive down to 50 to 100'
Josh was right ... something about that video was very creepy - it's like a horror movie with no horror.
Damn... it's like a... movie?
Cue the minor seconds!
"No bubbles" Did he think it was breathing?
i lol'd
Where's the bloody "read" link?
It's the one labelled "Read".
or just get a standard tablet with golden shellback?
People you dont have to be so impolite, what i have done is just said what my opinion is.......if you dont agree with it, then its well good for you and i respect that, so please respect my thoughts too.
Good Day !
Is that pronounced "arse sneeze"?
@Chris Aubeck: wow......the level of maturity of a grown man.....well it seems like on the photo.....
Expressing an opinion that has nothing to do with the topic at hand will not garner respect, nor should you expect it to.
Ass-Hat!
@ArsneyS:
This is the comment section of a blog. It attracts all kinds. If you can't deal with occasional taunting from fellow commenters then it's probably better not to post.
Yeah but do you realize that we don't actually give a rats ass about stupid comments and will do our best to make sure that either people who do make asshole comments will either drop their attitude or leave.
I'm bored, your first comment was even worse, and anyway, you haven't answered my question.
@Chris Aubeck - I would also like to know if that is the intended pronunciation. I see no other viable alternative, unless it is a miss-spelling of the word "arsony" with an arbitrary "S" attached.
Unfortunately, I believe we have made our point so successfully that we will likely not be graced with further response...
/bait
It's "arsonise", also translatable as "flame"; I beleive it's meant as an imperative.
Alright ppl......Arseny is my name, comes from the greek word Arsenios, meaning mascular, manly, and the S is the first letter of my surname.......so that makes it ArsenyS :)
@Shane: yeah, you are absolutely right......you know im just gonna drop it, such topic with nonsense is a waste of time, got stuff to do.....cya :)
Anyone knows the price ????
yes.
We need a few of those at my work place. God knows how many times the keyboards on numerous computers have been under water.
Do you work on a submarine?
Was the scuba gear really necessary? I'm sure some snorkeling gear would have been more than enough for that massive 1 foot "dive".
dive computer won't even register a dive unless you go at least 6' under.
