LG's BD300 Netflix & Blu-ray box lightly stroked
Need some early impressions of how LG's BD300 Blu-ray / Netflix combo player feels from the couch? Crave got some seat time in front of the device last night, finding its handling of Netflix streams basically the same as the Roku Netflix Player, unfortunately with a much larger price tag. The remote's home button may also link up to music and photos from a PC or the USB port, while BD Live support is present and accounted for. Hit the read link for a few more details ahead of the September launch, and hope "well under $500" is more like $399 at most.

What's with the shit posting, do you in real life go start a conversation and yell "FIRST!!!!111!!!" just when someone is opening their mouth?
That leads to you being the first and last...
quomen @ Aug 1st 2008 1:38PM

OneLove @ Aug 1st 2008 2:55PM

Well under 500$ = 499,99$.
Wiserun @ Aug 1st 2008 2:00PM
Yeah, it's probably not "well under", it's probably "well, under".
bob sakamano @ Aug 1st 2008 1:27PM

They're gonna have to open my pecs again to drain the fluid.

Huh. I might actually buy this. I like the idea even if I think Blu Ray is a huge waste of engineering time as standard DVDs look good enough to me.
Richard P @ Aug 1st 2008 1:33PM
This may be a good box, I bought a refurbed LG LRM-519, and besides the automatic reboots once every two weeks, and the constant battle with directtv to get it control the box's. I using the component 480i with it on a sony kdf50-e3000 and its crisp.....for non-hd
About once a month it needs a manual reset, probably cache/archive issues....blah
My old replay would need it aswell RIP Panasonic Replay.
The Microsoft service is free, and works/matches my lineups quite well...
Yeah I have had a refurbed LG product for over 2 years now and still charming as ever....I swapped the LG dvd burner with a newer LG and it accepted it. I use one of the 2 usb ports for a laptop chill mat to cool it down.
It will be intresting to see how long I can't wait to get this lg....Just dont buy lg tv's.
Operation Northwood @ Aug 1st 2008 1:47PM
Wow, Can we stream documentaries like: End Game " Alex Jones", 911 Mysteries, fluoride deception, terror Storm, Iraq For Sell, etc...?
Brent @ Aug 1st 2008 2:19PM
I think this product is a step in the right direction. People buying blu-ray players are obviously buying them for the purpose of watching movies so give them a little something that makes it easier to watch movies. People with a Netflix subscription can watch a movie they haven't seen, then if they like it enough to buy it in HD they can go buy a copy of it on blu-ray.
andyg8180 @ Aug 1st 2008 1:51PM
Roku = $100
Blu = $399 minimum
Youre already saving 100 bucks and an extra peripheral... It's a hard choice btwn ps3 and soomething like this...
coffee @ Aug 1st 2008 1:56PM
Or you can throw a $110 blu-ray dvd drive on your home theater PC, stream movies to from Netflix to your PC, and play everything on your TV.
That HTPC sure looks a lot better now, doesn't it?
Jon Acheson @ Aug 1st 2008 2:26PM
Considering HTPCs run a grand or more, no.
Saq0 @ Aug 1st 2008 2:59PM
a grand my ass, u can put a core2duo together WITH a blueray drive for like 500 - 600 in a sff case
rv @ Aug 1st 2008 4:54PM

Eric E @ Aug 1st 2008 1:57PM
um its a freakin ps3, with less capabilities and the same price.
Dusty Nipples @ Aug 1st 2008 2:12PM
Except the PS3 cannot stream Netflix. It is more of a morphed 360 & PS3 with less capabilities.
Jon Acheson @ Aug 1st 2008 2:28PM
It probably also is more home theater friendly than the PS3. Fits in cabinets better, quieter, integrates with IR universal remotes.
Eric E @ Aug 1st 2008 2:37PM
Not yet it can't, but Netflix mentioned the ps3 first when it talked about streaming and mentioned a special disc Netflix owners would buy to confirm their account to enable streaming on their ps3.
This was like a year ago though. But i dont think MS bought Exclusive rights to this? Netflix would be stupid, majority of bluRay rentals have to be ps3s. I just think sony has been buys w/ its Video Store.
And i love my Bluetooth remote, i dont' have to have the ps3 out or visible and you can get an IR USB adapter if you want it for your Universal Remote. And my ps3 is quieter than my cable box and fits fine in my cabinet (better than my wide cable box). Has anyone seen a picture of this thing?
Web Browser? 3 Generations of gaming (on my 60gb) PSN video store and On Demand rentals.
Built in HDD and Memory card reader, Bluetooth/USB plug and play.
Dual boot in Linux.
Chat (w/ video option)
hassle free HDD swap.

I wonder when Sony will get the memo that they're best internet-enabled BR player needs more features like this. I just grimace thinking about all the wasted space on that massive HDD in the PS3.

Brent @ Aug 1st 2008 2:36PM
Sony isn't too likely to do that. They just barely added movies and TV shows to the playstation store and they seem like the type of company that would have you buy from them instead of Netflix, unless Netflix gave them a really nice kickback.
OX4 @ Aug 1st 2008 2:55PM
This thing is pretty damn sweet. Looks like I got my Christmas present to myself all lined up.
Jim @ Aug 1st 2008 2:56PM
Streaming SD content is NOT a selling point; especially since this will be hooked up to my 47" 1080p LCD (to use the Blu-ray).
Most SD content looks horrible on such screens.
Stream HD (at least 720p/1080i) and THEN I might consider buying one!
JustFrozen @ Aug 1st 2008 10:02PM
Oh please, as long as it upconverts the SD content, it's plenty good enough considering the huge amount of content netflix has, especially on a lowly 47"
You sound like you're bragging about your TV, but with a screen that small you can't even tell the difference between 1080p and 720p from normal viewing distance
jd @ Aug 1st 2008 4:12PM
Where it says "Home menu" it should have been "Home Menu".
arkweld @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:56AM
if this thing loads discs in less than an hour and outputs DDTrue and DTSHD in bitstream this could be a winner. It has Profile 2.0 so that's one hurdle passed and free Netflix support so that's a bonus.
I don't care if it has 1080p upconversion. If you're looking at a bitstream enabled player then you probably already have fine video scaling in your receiver.
