Jaeger LeCoultre watch unlocks Aston Martin DBS, empties your mistress account
You know that Aston Martin DBS not sitting in your driveway? Here's the watch to not go with it, the €27,500 (more than $40,000) Jaeger LeCoultre AMVOX2 DBS Transponder. First spotted last year, the Swiss timepiece capable of locking and unlocking the DBS from a distance of 10-meters has had a rough time making the transponder reliable due to the mechanical watch's impact on electrical fields -- a Faraday Cage of sorts. The solution was to craft a 128-mm sapphire and metal antenna inserted into the curve of the inner bezel ring. Man servants and gold diggers will find the watch at fine retail shops sometime around December.

This is actually quite old:

So which bit of "First spotted last year" did you not read in Mr Ricker's article?
Yes, the watch being introduced is old news (hence the link to an Engadget article dated last year) but the news (which Thomas was writing to tell everyone about) is that they've been having problems.

Leave him alone... he ain't nuthin' but a gold digger

This watch is ugly. Surely, there are better ways to drop 40g's?
Jeremy K. @ Aug 19th 2008 9:02AM
Nope. This is the best way to spend $40,000.

Aston +Jaeger best way to spend your money when Gvt bails out your banking firm

If this watch is ugly...I don't want to see a pretty watch. Sure you'd be better off with a sexy Breitling, but I don't know of any Breitling that can unlock your Aston Martin. Then again, if any of us had one (and oh boy would I love one) we wouldn't be here right now probably.
chosen1 @ Aug 19th 2008 7:40AM
too bad this doesn't unlock my DB9
LondonConsultant @ Aug 19th 2008 7:41AM
I doubt Blendtec will even consider the question.
F. Bizzaro @ Aug 19th 2008 8:40AM
why is that lady crying?
Arlen @ Aug 19th 2008 9:06AM
So, $40k and it unlocks *any* DBS you come across, or just your own?
Rogue_Genius @ Aug 19th 2008 2:53PM
Arlen, I'm with you. $40k gets me into any Aston Martin? That's way less than MSRP. Count me in! :)
teecas @ Aug 19th 2008 9:07AM
Isn't it much easier to unlock it using the remote built in the car key?
Froggy @ Aug 19th 2008 9:41AM
No. No it's not. And the DBS has a starter button, so you would never have to take your keys with you. But that's for playing.
Rogue_Genius @ Aug 19th 2008 2:51PM
@ Froggy: Actually, the start button will only activate the engine when the vehicle registers the signal from the transponder in the keyfob. If the designers followed the traditional format, your key must be within a certain range of the ignition button (say a foot or two, tops) .You can't just sit down and start the car without the fob being nearby. nDee @ Aug 19th 2008 11:38PM
I thought you should put the "Emotion........"into the keyfob to turn it on
Warren @ Aug 19th 2008 11:25AM
Many auto makers have a keyless entry option for about 1k that allows for automatic entry.
40k? Can't you buy a Corvette for that?
This sounds like a stupid product made for stupid people.
THJ @ Aug 19th 2008 12:19PM
Yes, because it's generally the 'stupid' consumers that have the dough to drop 40k on a watch.
