Voodoo Envy 133 unboxed on video, lookin' good
Right, so Voodoo's succulent Envy 133 looks a lot better in high-res images than in some highly compressed, artifact-laden YouTube clip, but that's what your imagination is there for. For those still waiting for their freshly shipped machine to hit the doorstep, hop on past the break for an unboxing sure to make you even more impatient. Or just restrain yourself and experience it first-hand in a few days. Totally your call.

Hey! Those are my videos! Sweet!
Same as with my pictures from the previous post!
Marcus @ Sep 13th 2008 12:32PM
The computer looks stunning. Too bad you're probably ruining it with a crappy Windows OS :(
Playername @ Sep 13th 2008 12:42PM
Actually i plan on putting linux on it very soon. I have no use for Vista on it, and miss using linux. My only reason for using Windows on my other machines are for gaming.
d @ Sep 13th 2008 12:49PM
@marcus
I agree. It could use a little OS 86 magic
Marcus @ Sep 13th 2008 1:37PM
Come on! I didn't deserve to be voted down like that. And kudos to you for putting Linux on it ;)
jorvay @ Sep 13th 2008 3:53PM
Telling a linux user to run OSX is like telling a race car driver to drive a LeBaron at a Formula 1 race.
marty_k @ Sep 13th 2008 4:26PM
Playername, I'm thinking about getting one of those when they hit the UK. One thing that worries me is lack of an ethernet port. How fast is the draft N when you connect your power brick to home network via ethernet and copy files from other PC on this network?
Envys are quite hyped atm, what are the things you would change in your new laptop ? ;-)
Thanks!
Marty
XGM @ Sep 13th 2008 11:13PM
Man thats like PS3 shiny there, must be bad for the fingerprints eh ?
Chan @ Sep 14th 2008 3:20AM
how is the feeling using that(keyboard, touchpad & surface)???i like the shape and plan to get one.........
DDFTW!! @ Sep 13th 2008 12:14PM
i would kill my mother for that..
greyscale @ Sep 13th 2008 2:06PM
I'd kill your mom just for the thrill.
thatrotierkid @ Sep 13th 2008 2:51PM
but if you kill her, who will pay for it then?
diuqil @ Sep 13th 2008 4:46PM
That's hardly a laughing matter in the wake of tragic news like this:
http://kotaku.com/5049323/man-steals-cheque-kills-parents-buys-xbox
Reader @ Sep 13th 2008 8:40PM
Oh please diuqil, either it's not a laughing matter ever or it is even if it happened recently. It's stupid to say you can't laugh about something just because it actually occurred and isn't a far off concept anymore.
CJ @ Sep 15th 2008 8:56AM
Actually, that's pretty funny regardless.
That's fanboyism bordering on Jubei, that is. I wouldn't be suprised if he would kill his own parents just to use the phrases 'me too' and 'mickey mouse' just one more time in a Zune thread.
bidur @ Sep 13th 2008 12:21PM
ok.. thats nice :)
dodo @ Sep 13th 2008 12:31PM
happy polishing...
Playername @ Sep 13th 2008 12:42PM
believe it or not, fingerprints aren't too bad on the carbon fiber. It might be a different story for the ones that were painted though.
Will H. @ Sep 13th 2008 12:57PM
Personally, if I had one of these, I would take great pleasure in polishing it and making it shiny.
In similar news, this Envy ( http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/25/customized-voodoo-envy-133-a-sin-worthy-of-death/ ) is indeed the hottest thing ever, and is why I love the Envy so. In fact, I want this one. Nevermind it has Raul's name on it, I would change my name to Raul for this thing.
Krish the Fish @ Sep 13th 2008 1:46PM
mmm... that's actually making me reconsider my purchase of a MBP earlier this summer.... if only the Envy 133 had come out earlier... and yes, I know the polishing feeling, I cringe whenever I look at my brother's XPS M1330, covered in fingerprints all over the screen. my MBP is spotless, though I imagine a quarter at Ohio State will change that :(
and @ Will H.
I just wanted to inform you that his name is Rahul. Rahul Sood. And I might have to name my first-born after him someday (but I imagine there are only so many Indian names you can pick from before it gets goofy.)
ailen @ Sep 13th 2008 12:42PM
nice puter... what's up with grandma's quilt? Next time you make a video you plan on posting you really should find a background that doesn't remind everyone of their grandma's bedroom... scary.
Playername @ Sep 13th 2008 12:47PM
Video wasn't taken from my home, and wasn't intended for engadget. If need be, i can take much higher quality videos from my apartment.
Who knows if engadget will post them though...
Anton @ Sep 13th 2008 12:43PM
Very nice looking laptop.
Spitfire @ Sep 13th 2008 12:44PM
Awesome laptop.
He's going to turn obsessive compulsive. I give it less than a week, and he's going to hate how dirty it's going to get.
Jim Salabim @ Sep 13th 2008 12:52PM
Give me that over a Macbook Air any day, much better looking, a lot of innovation. Maybe Apple should take some notes from Voodoo next time.
Matthew C @ Sep 13th 2008 1:17PM
I love how its boxy, yet looks great. A great change from apple's rounded edges.
Benson @ Sep 13th 2008 1:22PM
While I agree that the design _is_ great, it seems that could be pointed out without naming names; aren't there enough flamewars in e))) comments anyway?
CJ @ Sep 15th 2008 8:59AM
I tend to agree.
The subtle joy of cutting someone with a razor edge just doesn't carry the same satisfaction as bludgeoning the same someone to death with a 90-degree angle square box.
happy_penguin @ Sep 13th 2008 1:19PM
Sexeh!
ard @ Sep 13th 2008 1:45PM
that must be the first sexy looking windows machine, very nice. Too bad about the OS.

CJ @ Sep 17th 2008 8:44AM
You forgot the 'Ret' in front of your name.
edward @ Sep 13th 2008 1:53PM
Enjoy your non standard horizontal resolution of 1080.
jorvay @ Sep 13th 2008 3:57PM
Or completely standard res of 1280x800...though I may be wrong since I looked that up from the very unreliable source of the official Voodoo website...
edward @ Sep 14th 2008 11:46AM
I stand corrected. When I called a few months ago I was told it was 1080.
Genome @ Sep 13th 2008 2:05PM
Sorry but that video is just obscene! it should be called Voodoo Envy 133 lost innocence on video.
ccamacho @ Sep 13th 2008 2:17PM
Playername can you keep us informed on how does the machine runs on Linux after you install it?
That is the only thing that is stopping me right now from buying it...
Linux rules
Rick @ Sep 13th 2008 2:18PM
B.F.D. For $1,000 less I can get a Lenovo X300 with better specs.
SFO Kevin @ Sep 13th 2008 10:35PM
But an Lenovo X300 will get you no Envy...
Jonathan Tyler @ Sep 13th 2008 2:32PM
How does that trackpad perform? It looks like it would feel weird. :P
jorvay @ Sep 13th 2008 4:00PM
I've got the same style of trackpad on my HP TX1000 series. I was a bit worried about it, but it's easy to feel where it ends, is as responsive as anything else I've used, and is really easy to keep clean (no edges to collect crusty crap). I've grown to really like it.
jf @ Sep 13th 2008 3:02PM
That's an extremely expensive netbook!
SFO Kevin @ Sep 13th 2008 10:37PM
Envy don't come cheap!...
oneofmany @ Sep 13th 2008 3:23PM
so can someone pls remind me why HP/Voodoo think that this will actually sell? This is terribly expensive and unlike other Voodoo computers it is by no means a top performer. Sure it has nice looks but man running Vista on a 1.6/1.8 ghz processor with relatively slow memory and REALLY slow hard drive is a torture.
wootman @ Sep 14th 2008 1:44AM
cuz its pretty.
Cave @ Sep 13th 2008 4:04PM
They have even copied the MacBook Air box.
Same two peace box, same laptop "bed" with string on it flip up and out the laptop...
twhit @ Sep 14th 2008 12:39AM
You do realize you are a moron for comparing cardboard boxes from two different companies.........I mean....... you're comparing eff'n cardboard BOXES!!!!!
Let it go..........let it go.........
wootman @ Sep 14th 2008 1:43AM
someone copied the box?
whats next, squares?
is nothing sacred?
peacefulpony @ Sep 13th 2008 6:51PM
I am assuming this does not have the new Penryn chip, which would make it prone to heat issues similar to what the MacBook air experiences. Or voodoo has found a solution to cool it better. Still, you are better off waiting for the penryns to arrive.
Chris Stubbs @ Sep 14th 2008 4:14AM
if this guy can spring for an Envy, surely he can spring for a new comforter. that looks like the one in my grandma's house...
