Sure, none of it makes any sense, but we can't shake the feeling that there's something a little weird going on here. We've received a number of tips that T-Systems -- a division of the same company that owns T-Mobile -- has got pics of some variation of a MacBook Pro that we've
certainly never seen before. The appearance of a new model would fall right in line with those
rumors we've been hearing, but this seems a little too easy. In fact, the specs of these devices appear unchanged from the current lineup of laptops. The likely explanation is that there's been a photo mix-up -- someone got their proper MBP pictures crossed with one of those "wishful thinking" renders. Then again, given Apple's
recent propensity for leaked photos... maybe there's something more to this.
Update: As a commenter noted, the above picture does look very,
very similar to
this fan-made mock-up, yet there are noticeable differences between the two (the thickness of the base, shape of the screen, location and style of the optical drive, width of the trackpad), which ultimately raise more questions.

Agreed. that keyboard is the old style keyboard, they'll be using the macbook spaced-keys design for sure.

This is definitely a fake mock-up. How would you even open a computer with this proposed design? It has no latch like the current MacBook Pros, but it also doesn't have an indentation where you can place your thumb like when opening the current MacBooks. Also, as already mentioned, the keyboard appears to resemble the old MacBook Pro, when Apple will almost certainly change the design to match those of the newer models in their lineup like the MacBook and iMac. Finally, if you look at Apple's iMac page, none of their iMac photos have a uniformly translucent reflection that stretches across both sides of the black rim and the lit screen. Conclusion: this isn't even good Photoshop editing.
If they leaked in the German site I'd put that down to a faulty battery!

I sure hope apple would be willing to spend a little more time on a redesign then the minor changes they made to that photoshop mock up above.
Even if it's all they did , Apple Fan Boy here so i'd probly upgrade anyway. I'd rather see a sweet macbook update. I like to have a 13 inch unit over 15 - lack of firewire on my macbook air is starting to bum me out.

its fake - the 'reflection' on the screen stretches from one bezel across the screen to the other bezel. Pretty sure Apple wouldn't want to show a reflection continue across a lit screen.

cant be real......Apple wouldnt change the appearance of the display and not the keyboard/speaker setup which looks exactly the same the little you can see of it. Putting an iMac bezel on the Pro and getting rid of the latch release button isnt exactly difficult photo editing. Then again if this is real, color me disappointed.

Why dissapointed? The industrial design of the current MBP is awesome. How would you improve it? I keep hearing that it needs to change significantly, but I don't hear how it should change.
Personally I hope they don't mess with the design. I think what is shown here is a decent refresh and I like it.
On the inside I'd like to see a quad core processor, up to 8GB RAM, 1333 FSB, high end video card and blu-ray.
hmmmm, maybe they can add a small external display, similar to "SideShow" with Vista? Or would that be termed as "copying"?
Maybe they can make it thinner? Introduce slightly smaller, cheaper versions? 12" or 14.1"? Provide more ports and connectivity?

The industrial design of the MBP is showing every minute of it's 5 year old lifespan.
When you have to completely dismantle the unit to fit a new hard drive, it's a long way from awesome.
re-arranging the guts and adding a door on the bottom or under the keyboard would indeed be a good idea. Don't need to change the way it looks to accomplish that...

I for one certainly do hope that this is a fake. But if the specs are true, I'll have no reason to upgrade from my current 15" MBP 2.4 GHz (SR). Sure, the new version is slightly faster, but I was hoping for a quad core processor and something with a bit more punch than 8600GT. What a disappointment if this is true.

But if you look at the older looking MBPs on the same website, they have the same "new" adjective before them. These descriptions are just copy/pasted.
MacBook Pros do not fit in with the "agressive entry level price-point".
Then again knowing Apple...entry level could mean $1799.99
If they are going for lower entry price it's probably most on the MacBook, and not MBP.

Regardless of the realness of the pic, I kind of like how the black around the screen makes the screen look bigger. My laptop has a pretty big border around the screen which just makes it looks small. The black is sort of fugly though still

This isn't new at all. It has the same specs. as the current 15" Macbook Pro. The website shows that the memory is 667mhz. The current Macbook Pros are 667mhz the new ones will most likely be 1066mhz based on the current iMac's which are the most recent macs and have a FSB speed of 1066mhz.
Personally I like the current design of the MBP and I see no reason for Apple to make any changes to the design. It's an aluminum slab with the guts in the thick part and a screen in the thin part. What's there to change, design-wise? Make it a little thinner, up the specs and put in blu ray. Done.
BTW, The current one is available with glossy or standard display to whoever was complaining about glossy (apparently I'm in the minority as I prefer the glossy)
I agree with you. There's not much that they need to update. On the iMacs it is a glass sheet over the display, so glossy is the only option. I believe that's what the other post was referring to. However, I don't think Apple would go that route on an option. Probably isn't even possible. It'd be to think, to fragile and certainly too heavy. Expensive too. So I think it'd still have the glossy and the matte option. They should know by now that Pro users can't stand glossy screens.
But yeah I think you're right on about the design. I hope they don't do anything stupid with it. Even with it's age it's one of the best looking laptops around. Some update would be great though. They should be able to make a more prosumer priced one that would have baseline specs.

?! You must be kidding, as do all ranking you high. The MAIN reason I didn't consider getting one is that they are UGLY and OUTDATED looking. They DESPERATELY need a makeover. At that price range I expect much more, both better looks and lighter weight. This isn't 2005 anymore. The world has moved on.
What would an updated design look like? Function dictates the majority of the design. You could rearrange the ports, use different materials, change the finish, maybe change the keyboard, definitely make it a bit thinner, but there isn't much to do.
I keep hearing that the design needs to be "updated", but no one seems to be able to articulate what updated means.
How would you change it? Be specific, and detail the benefits of the proposed changes.
Personally I'm more concerned with the spec on the new innards...

the keyboard on the current MBPs leaves alot to be desired. In fact, it's keeping several of our employees from taking the plunge and moving away from their thinkpads.

I've seen this exact image on a mock up forum before (I think it was macrumors or 9to5mac). It isn't a question if it is fake or not, It IS fake. Also, why would apple re-use an image they have already used on other macbook pro web-display screen mock ups for a new model. Not once have I seen this done. Apple always shows off new images on their new notebook screens. Another reason to call this fake. Third Reason, I am a strong believer that the next macbook iteration will see the move to the chick-lit style keyboard as currently every model in the series (laptops or desktop) uses that keyboard except the macbook pro.

Isn't it possible that they mixed up pictures, they are showing the specs for the present MBP but are showing a pic of the new one.
Could be very real, the black screen surround is now the Apple look, not that thin but if they can squeeze a quad core in there then it will be a very nice machine.

Things I expect from the next MBP update:
1) New casing: more contour tapering, as that's definitely where Apple's products are going.
2) New GPU - the 8600 will probably be replaced with something by ATI
3) New chipset
4) Blu-ray (optional) - support should be enabled with the 10.5.6 update
5) New keyboard - probably something more in line with the MacBook Air.
Do games require a different setup? Do I need to install Windows along with Macintosh to run the games, or can I play them straight off Mac?

for T Systems to make a fumble like that seems, unlikely.
secondly... There were so many issues with the first MBP's and heat issues...
maybe they have realized that there isnt much more power/heat you can shove into a 1/2 in case
and... a black bezel is likely. why not. it makes it easier to look at a screen, compare photos etc.
But yeah... i doubt those stats are the right ones. but The picture ... is probably more accurate than we think.
Another reason not to make radical changes to this case: The MBP is hard enough to open as it is. If they try to make it slimmer, tapered, etc - that could get worse. It could get better, but I suspect it won't. DIY repairs on a MBP are a stretch for just about anyone.
Macs and MBPs and even iMacs generate a lot of heat. I hope any case updates address these issues with some innovative solutions. Heat kills components.

It would be really lame if the change is just a black bezel. I'd expect a minimum of a new keyboard (e.g. like the Air), and ability to slide out the hard disk without opening the case (e.g. like the 13" MacBook).

Fake I say. ALL the rumours have indicated a new style keyboard which will be the same as the Air and the Mac Book. This stands to reason as the Air is supposed to have the best keyboard out of the bunch but in this photo the keyboard looks exactly the same as the current model. The pic just looks far to close to the current machine to be labelled the official new Mac Book Pro.

this is totally a fake because if apple were gonna bring out a new MBP they would post it on they website not on this other website, doesn't make sense to me. If you see the disc slot and compare with the actual in the Macbook Pro you will notice that this model its a Fake, its impossible to place something like that in that space. In the actual Macbook Pro its almost in the middle of the structure, and here is up at the level of the top cover.
The other thing is if it doesnt have any button to open it like the macbook and the macbook air, where is the space to fit some of your fingers and lift up??
