New MacBook Pros leaked on German site?
Sure, none of it makes any sense, but we can't shake the feeling that there's something a little weird going on here. We've received a number of tips that T-Systems -- a division of the same company that owns T-Mobile -- has got pics of some variation of a MacBook Pro that we've certainly never seen before. The appearance of a new model would fall right in line with those rumors we've been hearing, but this seems a little too easy. In fact, the specs of these devices appear unchanged from the current lineup of laptops. The likely explanation is that there's been a photo mix-up -- someone got their proper MBP pictures crossed with one of those "wishful thinking" renders. Then again, given Apple's recent propensity for leaked photos... maybe there's something more to this.
Update: As a commenter noted, the above picture does look very, very similar to this fan-made mock-up, yet there are noticeable differences between the two (the thickness of the base, shape of the screen, location and style of the optical drive, width of the trackpad), which ultimately raise more questions.

fake
Mr Lizard @ Sep 17th 2008 3:10PM
Agreed. that keyboard is the old style keyboard, they'll be using the macbook spaced-keys design for sure.
treetrunk @ Sep 17th 2008 12:40PM
Apart from the isight and logo, this does look VERY similar to a mockup I just found on google images:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=5280608&postcount=318
I'm going with fake too.
kccboy2004 @ Sep 17th 2008 1:59PM
i disagree, this looks genuine. This does look just like Apple copying Voodoo and Dell.
Why can't Apple innovate and stop copying everyone else ?
Maybe they need to start paying their employees more.
CraigJ @ Sep 17th 2008 3:04PM
After thinking about I do question the use of an Aperture screen shot instead of the standard Leopard wallpaper...
shea @ Sep 17th 2008 3:55PM
This is definitely a fake mock-up. How would you even open a computer with this proposed design? It has no latch like the current MacBook Pros, but it also doesn't have an indentation where you can place your thumb like when opening the current MacBooks. Also, as already mentioned, the keyboard appears to resemble the old MacBook Pro, when Apple will almost certainly change the design to match those of the newer models in their lineup like the MacBook and iMac. Finally, if you look at Apple's iMac page, none of their iMac photos have a uniformly translucent reflection that stretches across both sides of the black rim and the lit screen. Conclusion: this isn't even good Photoshop editing.
mymaclife @ Sep 17th 2008 4:15PM
If they leaked in the German site I'd put that down to a faulty battery!
xValentine @ Sep 17th 2008 10:20PM
Well fake or not, it looks gorgeous.

Really, people still do this crap.. Don't you have anything better to do then waste time and space. the nano sec it takes for me to read the crap that you post when your not even first is just such a waste of time.
Now onto my comment about the post.
I sure hope apple would be willing to spend a little more time on a redesign then the minor changes they made to that photoshop mock up above.
Even if it's all they did , Apple Fan Boy here so i'd probly upgrade anyway. I'd rather see a sweet macbook update. I like to have a 13 inch unit over 15 - lack of firewire on my macbook air is starting to bum me out.
MacBook Pro 13 Inch would be nice :)
NOT FIRST !!
Platinum_Skeet @ Sep 17th 2008 11:00AM
fail
Andrew @ Sep 17th 2008 11:24AM
its fake - the 'reflection' on the screen stretches from one bezel across the screen to the other bezel. Pretty sure Apple wouldn't want to show a reflection continue across a lit screen.
jd @ Sep 17th 2008 3:16PM
fake.
CoreyMac @ Sep 17th 2008 10:39AM
cant be real......Apple wouldnt change the appearance of the display and not the keyboard/speaker setup which looks exactly the same the little you can see of it. Putting an iMac bezel on the Pro and getting rid of the latch release button isnt exactly difficult photo editing. Then again if this is real, color me disappointed.
holycow @ Sep 17th 2008 11:09AM
They never changed the wheel on the iPods so you never know!
CraigJ @ Sep 17th 2008 11:23AM
Why dissapointed? The industrial design of the current MBP is awesome. How would you improve it? I keep hearing that it needs to change significantly, but I don't hear how it should change.
Personally I hope they don't mess with the design. I think what is shown here is a decent refresh and I like it.
On the inside I'd like to see a quad core processor, up to 8GB RAM, 1333 FSB, high end video card and blu-ray.
Tejas Padekar @ Sep 17th 2008 12:37PM
hmmmm, maybe they can add a small external display, similar to "SideShow" with Vista? Or would that be termed as "copying"?
Maybe they can make it thinner? Introduce slightly smaller, cheaper versions? 12" or 14.1"? Provide more ports and connectivity?
Maybe they just update the specs and do nothing else...
Just... "maybe".....
arkweld @ Sep 17th 2008 1:51PM
The industrial design of the MBP is showing every minute of it's 5 year old lifespan.
When you have to completely dismantle the unit to fit a new hard drive, it's a long way from awesome.
CraigJ @ Sep 17th 2008 3:01PM
re-arranging the guts and adding a door on the bottom or under the keyboard would indeed be a good idea. Don't need to change the way it looks to accomplish that...
dark star @ Sep 17th 2008 10:59AM
when is the next apple event? in jan?
BD @ Sep 17th 2008 10:43AM
it all the same, fake. if it real it suck!
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Sep 17th 2008 10:55AM
They said that about the new nanos before they were anounced. Then suddenly they were fantasmic.
(Disclaimer: I own the rights to the word Fantasmic. If You don't believe me YOU ARE A RACIST)

SeoulFinn @ Sep 17th 2008 10:46AM
I for one certainly do hope that this is a fake. But if the specs are true, I'll have no reason to upgrade from my current 15" MBP 2.4 GHz (SR). Sure, the new version is slightly faster, but I was hoping for a quad core processor and something with a bit more punch than 8600GT. What a disappointment if this is true.
CraigJ @ Sep 17th 2008 11:08AM
Those are the same specs as the current one...
Cardbored @ Sep 17th 2008 10:47AM
Besides it looking completely fake, I'm sure it's 100% real
Deeznuts420 @ Sep 17th 2008 10:49AM
the fake is a lie
Fernando @ Sep 17th 2008 10:52AM
This were done the last time there was going to be a macbook update, i have already seen them before.
MadMike @ Sep 17th 2008 10:55AM
I say its fake also.
manuel @ Sep 17th 2008 10:57AM
If you click on "more information" it says(quote)" The all new MAC BOOK PRO, more powerful than ever before". Sounds like "NEW" to me... But you are right that thins sucks
P.S
yes I am German
vagvoba @ Sep 17th 2008 11:03AM
But if you look at the older looking MBPs on the same website, they have the same "new" adjective before them. These descriptions are just copy/pasted.
Jeff @ Sep 17th 2008 11:01AM
MacBook Pros do not fit in with the "agressive entry level price-point".
Then again knowing Apple...entry level could mean $1799.99
Jakob @ Sep 17th 2008 11:16AM
If they are going for lower entry price it's probably most on the MacBook, and not MBP.
MrYingster @ Sep 17th 2008 11:03AM
I hope this is fake. I do NOT want a glossy display!
.. @ Sep 17th 2008 11:13AM
There's just one glossy in the store, the one with "Hochglanzdisplay". The other ones are non-glossy.
vagvoba @ Sep 17th 2008 10:59AM
Well, this is an official T-systems website. T-systems is the IT provider branch of Deutsche Telecom.
I don't think they would joke around with images like these. And the images are still there...
gaz_poole @ Sep 17th 2008 10:59AM
is it me or does that screen look more 16:9'y than the current models?
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Sep 17th 2008 11:09AM
Seconded
jeff @ Sep 17th 2008 5:38PM
I think it sucks until steve tells me about it, then I will undoubtedly love it. :)
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Sep 17th 2008 11:03AM
Hang On
How can it be fake if its an etablished retail site like T-Mobile IT departement. I think these are real and the only difference is the iMac Bezel and slimmer form Factor. MacTards rejoice.
(How many people to say ugly then buy it themselves in couple of weeks time)
shaun @ Sep 17th 2008 11:06AM
Regardless of the realness of the pic, I kind of like how the black around the screen makes the screen look bigger. My laptop has a pretty big border around the screen which just makes it looks small. The black is sort of fugly though still
Dale @ Sep 17th 2008 11:06AM
Since I bought my 2.4GHz 15" MBP in October, there hasn't been an update that's made me feel even the slightest pang of buyer's remorse. Surely a year on we're about due?
atibens @ Sep 17th 2008 11:08AM
at least they have 3 models listed - strange !
http://www.it-shop.t-systems.de/tsystems/tsi_b2b/Apple/Apple-MacBook-Pro-2-6-GHz.html?_n_=catalog&_t_=factsheet1&articleid=309510
this is the 2,6GHz model
Jim Salabim @ Sep 17th 2008 11:09AM
That is 100% real...just you wait and see!
Kay @ Sep 17th 2008 11:10AM
Seem to be no fake as they also dropped the price for the existing 15" 2,4 from 1799 Euro (VAT incl.) to 1669 Euro (VAT incl.)
Neil @ Sep 17th 2008 11:10AM
One of the ugliest computers ever. First they killed iMac with this black and silver crap and now they're doing it to this?
DO NOT WANT
Mike @ Sep 17th 2008 11:12AM
This isn't new at all. It has the same specs. as the current 15" Macbook Pro. The website shows that the memory is 667mhz. The current Macbook Pros are 667mhz the new ones will most likely be 1066mhz based on the current iMac's which are the most recent macs and have a FSB speed of 1066mhz.
CraigJ @ Sep 17th 2008 11:13AM
Personally I like the current design of the MBP and I see no reason for Apple to make any changes to the design. It's an aluminum slab with the guts in the thick part and a screen in the thin part. What's there to change, design-wise? Make it a little thinner, up the specs and put in blu ray. Done.
BTW, The current one is available with glossy or standard display to whoever was complaining about glossy (apparently I'm in the minority as I prefer the glossy)
