The wowPOD is art, or so we're told
Have you always dreamed of a giant, wall-hanging iPod seemingly warped and twisted like a big, crappy, old television? Well, Russian artists Aristarkh Chernyshev and Alexei Shulgin have, and now they're subjecting the world to it. Yes, say hello to the wowPOD, a fully functional iPod mutation which is absolutely worth whatever our business manager has been authorized to pay for it.

The persistence of memory is a vision found once and imitated by many.
Wolfticket @ Oct 6th 2008 2:07PM
Very win.
BuddyBoy @ Oct 6th 2008 9:03AM
I'm surprised this got passed Apples legal team, if it's fully functioning isn't that copyright infringement? Or is "Art" safe from that?
konshuss @ Oct 6th 2008 9:06AM
joke's on him, he'll need Apple once the battery runs out...
Liam @ Oct 6th 2008 9:18AM
Yeah. It's not exactly going to take sales away from them, is it?
I have no idea how they made a curvy wierd screen.
Jash Sayani @ Oct 6th 2008 9:08AM
Bad days for Apple.... First, an AirPort Express copy by CNet Technologies, then the TOSHIBA E105 that looks exactly like a MacBook, and now the WowPod !!!
archibalis @ Oct 6th 2008 10:07AM
to Liam
I think there is normal screen inside and other part is made by software.
CubeGuy @ Oct 6th 2008 10:08AM
@Liam
It looks like there's just a square screen behind the warbled plastic. I'm more interested in how they got the click wheel working.
Jash Sayani @ Oct 6th 2008 9:06AM
Readt it at TUAW yesterday... Why cant people just use the Apple iPod...? You dont need to wall-mount a WowPod in your bedroom to listen to some music !!!
Jordan @ Oct 6th 2008 2:11PM
it's ART, idiot. it doesn't serve a purpose. NO ONE is gonna mount this in their bedroom.
talrico @ Oct 6th 2008 9:22AM
What is this? 4th Gen? Please.
Well, maybe if I can swap out those headphones and use my own.
BuddyBoy @ Oct 6th 2008 9:36AM
Well it has a iPod Classic (6th Gen) interface.
chuck @ Oct 6th 2008 9:24AM
Nice showerheads
allislost @ Oct 6th 2008 9:38AM
I bet steve jobs has those in his bathroom... with a large water proof ipod-like interface on the wall for quick access to his music, movies, book, wall mounted dildos, tv shows, and anything else he might need at hand.
jorvay @ Oct 6th 2008 9:33AM
Seems interesting enough to me. A piece that reflects an iconic symbol of today's society with a variation by the artists (waviness) that leaves the piece open to interpretation. I like it.
w4rh34rt @ Oct 6th 2008 10:56AM
LOL! Loser ^_^ Art is all crap. Face it.
Godfail @ Oct 6th 2008 9:37AM
No mention of Salvador Dali?
allislost @ Oct 6th 2008 9:43AM
... was my comment too esoteric?
jovay @ Oct 6th 2008 9:55AM
Man...that'd take a lot of Swarovski crystals to cover....
Stem $ell @ Oct 6th 2008 11:32AM
Comment of the day!
phail @ Oct 6th 2008 11:21AM
i would buy one of these if it wasn't all wavy.
Mylanta @ Oct 6th 2008 11:03AM
"Dude, I told you not to leave the giant iPod in the car in the middle of the day like that...didn't you read the manufacturers warning?
Sirius @ Oct 7th 2008 6:30AM
I'm pretty sure the overheating battery caused that :)
Maybe the hot sun induced it to overheat..
Valgas @ Oct 6th 2008 11:19AM
so speakers are in those buds huh? cool. would have been cooler if the thing wasn't warped. that makes it art because it's warped though right?
ugg.tryptophan @ Oct 6th 2008 6:18PM
no, art is open to interpretation; this piece is not to my aesthetic tastes but is interesting nonetheless
allenvanhellen @ Oct 6th 2008 11:47AM
I should not have looked at this right before bed. This is going to give me nightmares.
RowdyReptile @ Oct 6th 2008 12:24PM
...wowPod? I was thinking more appropriately... whyPod
DirtyVegas @ Oct 6th 2008 1:13PM
How does the clickwheel work? Does this thing need the user to be on some "special medicine" to operate it?
Cybergypsy @ Oct 6th 2008 1:16PM
Very cool :)
Vicada @ Oct 6th 2008 2:51PM
Thing gives me the creeps. WHO FUNDS THESE PEOPLE?!
