Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset now shipping to ears everywhere
This is it, soldiers. The day you've been anticipating has finally arrived. Okay, so maybe that's a build up not deserved by the lowly retail version of the Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset, but seriously, we've been waiting ages for this thing to ship. Like, so long that the whole MGS4 aura has already come and gone. Those still firmly planted in Snake's posse can choose to prove their fanhood by snagging this thing now for $59.99; if all goes well, it should be headed your way in a matter of business days. Over and out.[Via LogicBuy]

I'm confused, my buddy had this headset back a week before MGS4 came out. How is it only now shipping? Was it a gamestop special back then or something?
J. Evans Turner @ Oct 12th 2008 8:06AM
Why didn't you beat his face in for purchasing such a ridiculous-looking over-priced piece of junk? As an Engadget reader, it is your duty!
Flashpoint @ Oct 12th 2008 9:39AM
When you say, "ridiculous-looking over-priced piece of junk" are you talking about the Playstation 3 or the headset?
Phil @ Oct 12th 2008 10:17AM
@Flashpoint
I presume he means the headset. Though he is going rather over the top with his comment. I presume he was drunk at time of typing?
Anyway, we all know that the PS3 is a fantastic bargain for what you get.
But the price is still just a bit too high for some people.
brandon @ Oct 12th 2008 3:26PM
Please do not feed the trolls..........
J. Evans Turner @ Oct 14th 2008 2:54PM
I was talking about the headset, of course. I own a PS3 (and 16 other mainstream and not-so-mainstream consoles since the Atari 2600).
How could anyone take that seriously or assume that it's some anti-Sony zealot? Engadget has reported in the past on just how ugly this thing is.
I don't condone violence. Perhaps you should have pointed at him and laughed uncontrollably until he was shamed into removing it?

"Yeah, you can also pair this with your cellphone and use it in public, but we can't say we'd recommend all that."
Bellerophon @ Oct 12th 2008 6:35AM
As good at it looks, apparently it's pretty poor performance wise. Best wait for the SOCOM one folks.
J. Evans Turner @ Oct 12th 2008 8:07AM
I see what you did there.
TJ @ Oct 12th 2008 6:40AM
Luis, totally agree. I almost bought this when MGS4 came out at circuit city? But I instead went with the Logitech corded USB headset. This article is completely confusing? Oh and I have talked with a couple of people on the playstation forums that have this headset and they all pretty much say that this thing sucks.
anantha92 @ Oct 12th 2008 7:17AM
About 5 of my friends had already purchased this when mgs4 came out...
Kit @ Oct 12th 2008 7:56AM
I saw this headset 4 months ago at Circuit City...
iEye @ Oct 12th 2008 8:41AM
Circuit City; Population 1
The design for the earpiece is good, but other than that, this makes you look like a TOOL X 2
1) wearing a BT headset for no reason at all
2) wearing a video game randed headset to pretend that you are some sort of super soldier...
iHear Apple has a nice sleek black GT headset...

"iHear Apple has a nice sleek black GT headset..."
Speaking of TOOLs...
J. Evans Turner @ Oct 12th 2008 8:05AM
I've been seeing this in retail stores like Best Buy forever. I can't imagine who would buy it or wear it.
Hobo Joe Junkpan @ Oct 12th 2008 8:32AM
Seriously, Engadget? This thing has been around since MGS4's release on June 12! Shame on you for not fact-checking, or at least not double-checking from another source...
Oh, well, forgive and forget. Still love you guys...
Untouchable4rc @ Oct 12th 2008 9:07AM
Yeah these were released a week before MGS4 came out. Don't be fooled it might look pretty cool but if I'm not mistaken they're manufactured by pelican I believe(If not Pelican than intec)...a company that's not too well known for dishing out quality products.
Kspraydad @ Oct 12th 2008 9:57AM
GET THE SOCOM ONE!
InO @ Oct 12th 2008 10:00AM
i think they mean the Socom headset its shipping tomorrow
Hickeroar @ Oct 12th 2008 10:31AM
And look at the "got photographed" article. It's from back in May...
Hickeroar @ Oct 12th 2008 10:31AM
Uhm, maybe I' m just confused, but I could swear I saw this on a clearance rack at best buy months ago.
KilgoreTrout @ Oct 12th 2008 10:38AM
I had a couple of midpriced (i.e. cheapo) BT headsets from the likes of Jabra and Logitech and I had to get rid of them in a matter of days or weeks, but then I hit on the perfect companion for my N95 8GB and it has been with me for more than one year of excellent service:
It's called:- Nokia BH- 301-
Highly recomanded , specially with the faux carbon fiber clip on .
Otaku Daddy @ Oct 12th 2008 10:55AM
Seriously, I've owned this since MGS4 first came out. What gives?
Hdgmansurrev Daren-Cushman-Wood @ Oct 12th 2008 11:06AM
Better late than never I guess.
hh83917 @ Oct 12th 2008 11:23AM
I thought I saw this at Fry's Electronics when MGS4 first came out. I didn't buy it because it seems cheaply made....I think the SOCOM one should be better quality.
Johnny Gimlet @ Oct 12th 2008 11:46AM
Yeah, I have had the MGS4 headset for months already. In fact, I think I purchased it when I got the game. I am not seeing how this is news unless I have stepped into a time-warp.
techno @ Oct 12th 2008 11:57AM
Any one care to point out how good this headset really is?
sithlord 24 @ Oct 12th 2008 12:46PM
why is this an headline. i mean everyone here knew this is old news.
jkthunder @ Oct 12th 2008 1:09PM
This is way old news - ? I think this thing is marked down to 5 bucks at Best Buy now.
strider_mt2k @ Oct 12th 2008 1:55PM
They'd have to give me five bucks to take one!
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Oct 12th 2008 4:30PM
Snore....zzzz... Socom Headset kicks this one's ASS!
If it even had an Ass or does it?
turtlesoup @ Oct 12th 2008 8:54PM
In other news, I hear there's this new invention coming out next week called the light bulb. It will change everything!
Dexter @ Oct 14th 2008 4:11PM
yeah, I work at best buy, and we just got done with a clearance on these sets.
Bjsfreaked @ Oct 13th 2008 4:38AM
I love the MGS series but i wouldn't buy this.
I rather use my motorolla S9 as it fits round the ear - comfortable and picks up easily.
Mark @ Oct 14th 2008 10:03AM
i saw this thing at best buy a week ago. it looks cool but a little overpriced imo
J. Evans Turner @ Oct 14th 2008 2:57PM
"looks cool"
Come again?!
