MacBook innards crammed into makeshift mini Mac Pro tower
When we first laid eyes upon the slick box pictured above, we were struck with an eerie feeling of déjà vu. Now, it all makes sense. After receiving an all-but-completely-dead MacBook, one particular modder decided to rip the motherboard out, break out the soldering iron, throw in a few replacement parts and shove everything into a Macally G-S350SUA aluminum hard drive enclosure. Wanna know why? Because he had a peek at this -- a Mac Pro Mini mod that popped up here in March. Talk about taking inspiration and improving upon it.

I'll take 10
SITEiNK @ Nov 15th 2008 12:45PM
me too. this kind of stuff is so cool. thank God for handy people like this.
dandaman @ Nov 15th 2008 1:37PM
yes, I realize I just pimped my game... that was part of the joke.
SITEiNK @ Nov 15th 2008 1:43PM
ya, it was completely related, but that does not mean you cant bring up something else.
it is absolutely cool and AOL encouraged.
Flashpoint @ Nov 15th 2008 3:43PM
Either the Apple fanboys got here and downranked everyone or Engadget doesn't like anti-apple comments.
What the hell happened?
Bryant @ Nov 15th 2008 3:53PM
Digg's bury brigade migrated to Engadget. :(
oZone @ Nov 16th 2008 5:56PM
I'll join in on the fail-reply party here.
Bryant @ Nov 15th 2008 12:08PM
I'd take 100... in an xgrid cluster.
Shoumik @ Nov 15th 2008 12:08PM
Does it come in black?
o nvm
brandon @ Nov 15th 2008 12:10PM
I wonder.....
Will it blend???
leo @ Nov 15th 2008 12:32PM
I also wonder if it will blend although when I say "it" I mean YOU
Sean @ Nov 15th 2008 12:37PM
leo=not funny
brandon @ Nov 15th 2008 12:51PM
leo,
the kind of people who say things like that are the people that have watched the videos, thought, "hey, I wonder if my dick will blend!", and now are consistently haunted by the horrors of your own stupidity and insecurity. you're not funny douchebag, go stump fuck yourself
leo @ Nov 15th 2008 2:19PM
stump fuck was good
Bryant @ Nov 15th 2008 4:12PM
This whole thread is worthless.
leo @ Nov 15th 2008 7:04PM
yeah I know, I was just trying to put another of these "will it blend" / "can it play crysis" / "1st" idiots into their place and I GOT FLAMED - wtf?
I should've just left it alone, not associated myself with such garbage and let him get low ranked. Foolishly, many have tried to be ironic by posting "1st" on a day-old article - even used sarcasm tags and whatnot but the engadget commenters are a harsh bunch. Somtimes very funny, sometimes very knowledgeable - but always harsh.
Flashpoint @ Nov 15th 2008 12:10PM
I know engadget has heart attacks from the excitement of new Mac anything but I fail to see how this is an improvement.
If footprint/space is the major issue, you'd be doing much better with a imac.
oZ @ Nov 15th 2008 12:33PM
Probably because they also get hard ons for DIY stuff.
decapitor @ Nov 15th 2008 12:13PM
Oh engadget don't you know that the term motherboard is totally beneath mac users. It's a "logic board".
oZ @ Nov 15th 2008 12:33PM
Which is also what Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Gateway call their parts.
Valicore @ Nov 15th 2008 12:37PM
How insensitive. It's a "parent"board.
Flashpoint @ Nov 15th 2008 1:20PM
lol
Logic Board my ass.
Chris Are @ Nov 15th 2008 1:44PM
flashpoint wants a spanking.
Ross @ Nov 15th 2008 5:37PM
Dell call their motherboards "system boards"
Just to inform :)
holycow @ Nov 15th 2008 12:14PM
And that's how the next-gen Mac Mini should look like!
yopopoy @ Nov 15th 2008 12:21PM
And it should have more power! (IDK how powerful that one is)
I should attempt at one of those...
kavendano14 @ Nov 15th 2008 12:18PM
With a dell monitor
yopladas @ Nov 15th 2008 12:22PM
Mose people dont use Apple Cinema displays with their mini... ::)
JAmerican @ Nov 15th 2008 1:13PM
Because they have low contrast ratio and are super expensive. Remember how Apple was criticized for charging extremely high prices for their 20-inch Cinema Display that had the same LG panel in it as the Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW. LOL!
KarlW @ Nov 15th 2008 1:24PM
Apple really need to rework their displays if they want anybody to buy them.
They need to be competitively priced and have more inputs. I love Apple's design and would love an ACD on my desk, but if it means not being able to use my PS3 and paying more, I'll keep my Dell 2407WFP-HC. There's so much Apple could do - like making the USB hub connect to the computer via WUSB, or adding an accelerometer for rotating the display.
dandaman @ Nov 15th 2008 1:40PM
@karl w
i'm pretty sure they just reworked there displays.
yopladas @ Nov 15th 2008 12:23PM
Um, just wondering but, do people ever stick the innards inside a modded monitor housing and make a iMac? That'd be cool...
Anthony @ Nov 15th 2008 12:30PM
AWWWW ITS SOOOOO CUTEE!!!! lol ... thats the only comment youll hear =]
Valicore @ Nov 15th 2008 12:38PM
Bless its heart!
Josh Ladella @ Nov 15th 2008 12:31PM
it doesnt have an optical drive...sounds familiar...
farfisa @ Nov 15th 2008 12:36PM
That's because customers overwhelmingly favour the lack of an optical drive.
:P
The Dude @ Nov 15th 2008 1:11PM
It may be because optical drives are a bag of hurt.
ILoveApple @ Nov 15th 2008 1:20PM
You're all wrong. It's because the Segway is going to be as big a deal as the PC.
Burmie @ Nov 15th 2008 10:02PM
This isn't Vietnam...THERE ARE RULES!
Chris Dunning @ Nov 15th 2008 12:40PM
Hmm. Pretty cool. Maybe when my old macbook stops doing it's job I'll give something like this a try.
Kspraydad @ Nov 15th 2008 12:40PM
Where the hell do I put my coffee cup?
lowdef @ Nov 15th 2008 2:34PM
was that necessary?
Kspraydad @ Nov 15th 2008 6:48PM
Sorry Samboni...I'll have to get your dad out of there first.
Feel better?
Samboini @ Nov 15th 2008 7:21PM
If you can fit him in there, I'm impressed. Chances are though, you're lieing.
lowdef @ Nov 15th 2008 7:59PM
Did you just tell us that you know and are proud of your father's penis size?
Samboini @ Nov 16th 2008 4:23AM
No. Think about it.
digitallysick @ Nov 15th 2008 1:03PM
Now just make it 400 dollars cheaper (since it doesn't come with a screen like a macbook) and we have a deal
dj moon @ Nov 16th 2008 12:55AM
@digitallysick
Or stick an Intel mini-itx mobo in there (sorry "lobo" [logic board] didn't sound good;),
and you've got yourself a >$200 "Hackintosh" that LOOKS the part!
heh-heh... *ahem*
AV-Logistics @ Nov 15th 2008 1:22PM
This is an awesome mod! I'd really like to see one of the new mac boards in their with the GeForce 9400m. Now that would be the most potent, yet compact htpc of all time.
iofthestorm @ Nov 15th 2008 2:39PM
Well, perhaps without the TV tuner part but I guess that's kind of optional these days anyway, seeing as how there are better places to get videos than OTA, and CableCard is a bag of hurt.
