Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector finds draft areas in your abode
This one's been around the block a time or two, but sadly, it still won't be available for use as an in-law stocking stuffer. Black & Decker's $39.99 TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector packs an infrared sensor that can detect where cool air is being let in around older windows, doors, etc. You simply aim it at a suspect area on your wall or molding, set the threshold for temperature change and comprehend the readout on the LCD screen. Too bad this will be way less useful when it launches in the Spring, but Old Man Winter's never too far out.

So basically this is your standard infra-red laser target thermometer...
I think I need one to make sure that the room I keep my spare mint iPhone is at a constant room temperature and not fluctuations... minute condensation is not acceptable for iPhone storage...
kellogs908 @ Dec 6th 2008 5:04PM
are you trying to get low ranked?
Homer @ Dec 6th 2008 4:56PM
I know this sound hypocritical.
I am asking everybody to stop replying to iEye and Clak for a week and see what happens.
Do not reply after this.
who? @ Dec 6th 2008 5:49PM
Hi Homer.
Metkis @ Dec 6th 2008 5:56PM
I love you all!
DarkLight @ Dec 6th 2008 6:11PM
Well, sadly you have to admit that the first line of his comment is right
MarbleMind @ Dec 6th 2008 6:24PM
Vote for Pedro.
Jeff P. @ Dec 6th 2008 9:08PM

Incase you guys haven't noticed, there are multiple iEyes.
One, since yesterday, has his avatar of an Apple logo with a drilled hole metal hexagon in the background.
This one has an iPhone for the avatar.
Another iEye, maybe one of those, had a vegetable.
who? @ Dec 7th 2008 10:00AM
@Haikibutsu
No, it's just the crappy comment system. I uploaded a new one for Black Friday and then re-uploaded my old one, but now mine changes between my old one and my new one at random intervals.
superhobo @ Dec 8th 2008 4:41AM
So how does it survive in your pocket?
Or do you carry it around in a special thermally isolated box?
Patrick @ Dec 6th 2008 4:59PM
set phasers to stun
KAIKAI @ Dec 6th 2008 5:06PM
to check your temp from 3 feet away ?
bill cant fart @ Dec 6th 2008 6:25PM
I'd much rather set my phasers to FUN!
HOOPER @ Dec 7th 2008 9:47PM

set phasers to RAVE
Technex @ Dec 6th 2008 5:06PM
I have one of these sensors too, it's called my hand ;).
JStro @ Dec 6th 2008 5:25PM
I one up you with a spare as well.
Dan W @ Dec 6th 2008 6:08PM
I would like to borrow your spare to give you a high five.
BTW, if I aimed this thermal leak detector at one of the interior walls in my 1949 house, it would probably asplode.
scott @ Dec 6th 2008 7:13PM
@Dan W
yeah, for real..my house was built in 1912. This thing would probably just read "I quit." if i used it.
Sporkinum @ Dec 6th 2008 8:12PM
You guys are pikers.. 1900 and it's 10 degrees F right now. My bedroom is always in the 50's during winter. There is only 1 heat register in the upstairs, and it blows into the hall.
Jeff P. @ Dec 6th 2008 9:09PM
Newbies. 200 BC and it's a balmy 5 degrees above absolute zero.
andres @ Dec 6th 2008 9:37PM
@ jeff
5 degrees kelvin, damn.
brokenkeyboard @ Dec 7th 2008 6:22PM
EI: ... I was happier then and I had NOTHIN'. We used to live in this tiiiny old house, with greaaaaat big holes in the roof.
GC: House? You were lucky to have a HOUSE! We used to live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture. Half the floor was missing; we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of FALLING!
TG: You were lucky to have a ROOM! *We* used to have to live in a corridor!
MP: Ohhhh we used to DREAM of livin' in a corridor! Woulda' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woken up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us! House!? Hmph.
EI: Well when I say "house" it was only a hole in the ground covered by a piece of tarpolin, but it was a house to US.
GC: We were evicted from *our* hole in the ground; we had to go and live in a lake!
TG: You were lucky to have a LAKE! There were a hundred and sixty of us living in a small shoebox in the middle of the road.
MP: Cardboard box?
TG: Aye.
MP: You were lucky. ...

I have that Tivoli radio in the back. It's nice.
Zleathal1 @ Dec 7th 2008 8:59PM
I have the same. Why is it not plugged in?
stem $ell @ Dec 6th 2008 7:26PM
Niche product catering to draft dodgers...
DereX @ Dec 6th 2008 7:32PM
Possibly great for Ghost Hunting as well.
who? @ Dec 7th 2008 1:28AM
Oh, god. Don't get me started on those idiots and their so-called 'EMF' detectors.
warrrennnnn @ Dec 6th 2008 8:09PM
I second Homer's idea.
The boycott of iEye and clak begins now.
Day 1: A sense of peace flows over me as I realize I do not have to reply to their pure ignorance. I look on towards the coming week with great anticipation. Ah, the excitement of bliss.
who? @ Dec 7th 2008 1:25AM
I'm sorry, I can't stop myself replying to them. It's like crack to me.
who? @ Dec 7th 2008 4:36PM
It's sssoooooooooooooo not happening.
Bad Beaver @ Dec 7th 2008 8:28AM
Does it produce any sort of funky sound effects? Maybe one could mod some blinkenlights into the upper bezel. I'd love to scan random people in the street and then proclaim my "interesting readings here" to the other blokes in overalls behind me.
johnzilla @ Dec 7th 2008 9:58AM
I'll bet random people in the street can already tell you're a dweeb. No need to spend time and money proving it.
Bad Beaver @ Dec 7th 2008 10:16AM
Yeah, you know, it's kinda sad you can often tell "dweeb" by appearance alone but you rely on people employing their piehole in order to tell "dipshit" just as much.
NHAnimator @ Dec 7th 2008 1:09PM
Here in the Northeast, there is no Spring. There is only Winter and almost-Winter.
TheGeektoriousBIG @ Dec 7th 2008 1:40PM
I would aim this at my wife's lower half too see if it's a chance of getting some tonight, or not. You know how women get when you don't take out the trash when you're supposed to.
warrrennnnn @ Dec 8th 2008 3:34AM
mad?
Jimiisama @ Dec 7th 2008 2:05PM
Sealing infiltration points in your home may not be good; your home's HVAC system is designed keeping a certain amount of infiltration in mind. Sealing your home can reduce ventilation, and you'll have fewer air changes in your home.
Excelsior @ Dec 7th 2008 2:10PM
I don't care about all of you, but I am already ordering this item. I absolutely need it since some windows are out of reach and there are drafts all over my damn house. So what if it comes in spring, it will help for next year. Watch the video for a good idea of how to use it. I have windows that are quite hard to reach.
God @ Dec 7th 2008 2:11PM
There used to be an old system that did the same thing as this, it was even faster and more sensitive. What was it called.... Oh yeah, your hand.
Rocketboy @ Dec 8th 2008 8:57AM
I already have something like this that I purchased from Ted's Ghost Emporium. It helps me find ghostses so I know where to run away from.
Patrick Austin @ Dec 8th 2008 3:21PM
How is this different from any of the other IR thermometers out there? My el cheapo one I've had for a few years does this just fine, and has the added benefit of working up to 900+ degrees and down to way colder than the freezer.
