Three of four undersea internet cables get cut, hasn't affected you yet
So, there's good news and bad news, and per tradition, we'll be starting with the latter. Three of four undersea cables that route internet traffic from Asia to North America have inexplicably been cut, meaning that your international Quake III server may be a bit slow this evening. The good news is that this fiasco clearly hasn't affected you yet. The AP has confirmed via Egypt's communications ministry that the cables have indeed been severed, causing massive outages in select portions of the world. Oddly, no suspicions of subterfuge have been mentioned, but we have all ideas rumors will start to swirl if another gets snipped. So, tell us readers -- are you still online? Wait, don't answer that.[Via ZDNet]

Damn pirates, where are the ninjas when you need em?
BigD145 @ Dec 19th 2008 4:09PM
Ninja's? You'll need about 50 of them to take down each pirate.
Gnaget @ Dec 19th 2008 4:16PM
50 ninjas to take down a pirate? psh. We all know that pirates are useless when up against a ninja. Like mike tyson vs a child. It's a matter of balance, ninja's have it, and a pirate with a wooden leg doesn't. Everyone knows that pirates are merely homeless degenerates with good PR
GenoMalice @ Dec 19th 2008 4:22PM
Not when these pirates are Somali and armed with RPG's Ak-47's and a bunch of nades!!
We're the African Spatnaz!

Tell that to Black Beard. It took a lot of guys to take him down.

It comes in threes. In February of this year something similar happened, 3 cables were cut as well. Maybe it's time to think about protecting them somehow?
racethesun @ Dec 19th 2008 3:45PM
Yeah its really strange that exactly 3 continue to be cut, one i could see as an accident, 2 maybe.. but 3 cables two different times seems like this is something more
