CP Dock, because your phone is way too cool to rest on a table or floor
While we sit here contemplating how we somehow didn't think of the CP Dock first, we might as well praise the innovative minds that managed to devise a "gadget" that accommodates a phone charger, serves as a cord wrap, and acts as a phone stand all at the same time. Of course, you could save the $12.95 and just resort to the antiquated method of placing your beloved phone on -- you know -- a surface, but feel free to carry out the conspicuous consumption if you're so inclined.

Chargehand is an alternative that has been around for almost a year now:

Normally £8!? Outrageous!
Matthew @ Dec 24th 2008 9:25AM
Yeah I was about to say, I've already seen something similar over the summer. The product I saw looked better than this too cause it actually had some color in it.
Zunavio @ Dec 24th 2008 7:47AM
The Sanctuary from BlueLounge looks better.
Michael Scrip @ Dec 24th 2008 3:04PM
At $130 it should!
Tom Robertson @ Dec 24th 2008 7:53AM
This is completly rubbish.
Bob @ Dec 24th 2008 8:50AM
Actually, this is genius Engadget and Mr. Tom Robinson. I HATE it when I have to untangle my charger cord every time I want to charge my phone. Then other cords get tangled with it or someone ends up tripping over it... or it just gets in the way. Then I have to wrap it back up and go through all the stuff mentioned above AGAIN. It's worth $13 to me to protect my sanity.
Tom Robertson @ Dec 24th 2008 9:14AM
My name is Tom Robertson as it clearly says 4 times on this page.
Sky @ Dec 24th 2008 9:49AM
Agreed! It looks complete rubbish. The designers of something similar
pitched it on TV, and the judges pointed out that if someone whacked it, then
it would not only break the shelf, but also the power outlet, leaving the wires exposed.
There is only so much strength in that support...
rodan32 @ Dec 24th 2008 12:13PM
Hey Tom,
Why don't you add your address and phone number, too? Seriously, what's the fun of the interwebs if you go by your full given name? Also, way to waste a post because you were mad someone didn't get your name right. Classy.
Love,

As long as the guy from oxy clean or the shamwow commercial premotes this product I don't see it selling all that well. I can see the infomercial now 19.95 plus shipping and handling gives not one but two phone cp docks and if you call now we will throw a car charger in free

My dad found something similar to this once for £1...so he bought 2!
Byrdman @ Dec 24th 2008 8:08AM
i had that phone. it sucked, but was indestructible.
backpedal @ Dec 24th 2008 8:43AM
I still have one. I had to use it when waiting for a new phone to arrive. Indestructible is right. Everything else pretty much sucks about it, but I'll never throw it out.
TrentD @ Dec 24th 2008 9:27AM
My wife had one. She dropped it, and it was chewed numerous times by a dog with separation anxiety, and kept on tickin'.
Byrdman @ Dec 24th 2008 2:31PM
a friend of mine took mine one time and threw it against a wall as if she was pitching a softball. the battery popped of but other than that nothing. probably the best built phone I have ever used. needless to say it was ugly as all hell, but it did its job
Dax Cruz @ Dec 24th 2008 8:08AM
What happened to laying your phone/mp3/ whatever on a nearby table and then plugging the charger on a wall? Isn't that cheaper? And how about places where the plugs are horizontal and not vertical in orientation?
Mojo Jojo @ Dec 24th 2008 9:16AM
I guess that depends on how expensive your table was. :)
Dax Cruz @ Dec 24th 2008 9:18AM
Ikea. Guilty. :D
Mojo Jojo @ Dec 24th 2008 9:22AM
Maybe you can use the extra parts to build one of your own.
Norville Rogers @ Dec 24th 2008 10:47AM
What if there isn't an available surface, like a hotel room? I've been in plenty of hotels where there isn't an available outlet near a desk/table. What about at a convention on "the floor"? In those cases I've had to put my phone on the disgusting floor and risk having it stepped on. It's easy to say "why" when you look at only your situation, but others may have a need. I presonally think $20 is a little steep, but I could certainly see a niche need.
Davey Lad @ Dec 24th 2008 8:09AM
I saw this on the UK Dragons Den about a year or so ago... it didn't look as nice then however and one of the dragons just kicked it and it smashed into about a million bits... needless to say the two guys who's brain child it was were laffed off. You just can;t keep some people down I guess
NHAnimator @ Dec 24th 2008 8:09AM
From the owner's manual: "IMPORTANT: To prevent your cell phone from falling directly to the floor, American and European owners should use the top socket of their electrical outlet. Australian owners should use the one down under."
AzaB @ Dec 24th 2008 8:14AM
I wouldn't diss this too much. I actually bought one of these for my wife (or an original version, it was two years ago) and she loved it because it keeps the cable so tidy.
Moral of the story: Always consider the lady's take on the gadget
KIFF @ Dec 24th 2008 8:17AM
Saw this (by an alternative company) being sold.
Last year.

For the college student who's batshit poor and can't afford a table.
G @ Dec 24th 2008 9:13AM
Well then he probably hasn't got any furniture anyway, he could just put his phone on the floor.
