Acer kicks out TravelMate 6593, 6493 laptops for the corporate set

As you may or, more likely, may not, remember, Acer introduced a pair of TravelMate 6593 and 6493 laptops way back in July of last year, but it looks like the company isn't one to let a good model number go by the wayside, and it's now rolled out some new, seemingly updated models aimed specifically at corporate customers. From the looks of it, the new models will also only be available in some stock configurations, with the 15.4-inch TravelMate 6593 packing a Core 2 Duo T9500 processor, 4GB of RAM, the usual integrated Intel graphics, and a 250GB hard drive, while the 14.1-inch 6493 comes equipped with a Core 2 Duo T8300 processor and 3GB of RAM, along with mostly similar specs across the board. You''ll also be able to pair each with an ezDock II or ezDockII+ and, yes, you can get your hands on 'em right now (for between $1,099 and $1,499).

Reusing the same model numbers? OMG. Those are already cryptic. As if there's nothing else left among ~10000 possible variations. Plain stupid.

Well done. Corporate machines must always be so damn fugly.
sabari @ Jan 14th 2009 1:56PM
well...this looks like a sincere copy of HP laptops :-)

these look just like Acer's regular craptacular consumer based notebooks

Get a load of that one-tone chassis, and the nice plastic case.... all for up to $1500!
Honestly, who sits there with $1500 and says, " I could get a great HP, or a good dell, or even a nice macbook for the same price, but what the heck..... give me the Acer."
IMHO Acer should stick with lower end consumer based netbooks and laptops.

lol the chassis does look the same as my $399 model, mines just slightly lower specced at T3200 (2.0ghz), 14.1", 2gb ram, 160gb hd

Wait who is willing to pay $1500 for an Acer ? Acer is only good at low cost netbooks and low end notebooks that are offered as free gifts for phone service firms and schools.

Have to agree here. I have 2 Acers, one was $400 last spring (Compusa demo) and the new one, $320 (after Christmas open box with a busted key). I wouldn't pay any more than that, but they aren't bad machines at all.
They both run Ubuntu Linux great, including WiFi and graphics.

I HATE THIS LAPTOP. I have been working on downgrading the 6593 to XP and it has been nothing more than an absolute pain in the ass every step of the way. *looks over at it and glares*. Pro tip: Never buy Acer.

Hmmm,
All notebooks are made at OEM factories...HP, Dell, Acer, Toshiba etc..
They all made from the same components by the same people...
You would have to be real smart to buy on brand, HP must be so much better than DEll or Acer, because ....
- Their Indian help desk is great
- I love the crapware they put on there notebooks it really helps me when I am looking at my emails or using the web.
superhobo @ Jan 14th 2009 3:08PM
All the Acers I've seen come with useful crapware. Easily removable crapware too. Nothing that penetrates the depths of Windows and needs a re-install to get rid of.

Looks like the HP NX6325.
