December NPD: PSP sells 1.02 million systems


PSP sold 1.02 million units in December, according to the latest NPD results. While these figures are quite good, they do pale in comparison to Nintendo and Microsoft's consoles. Software sales were particularly good for PSP last month, with more than 3.7 million software units were sold for PSP. Popular purchases include games, such as, including popular hits such as Madden NFL 09, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 and Lego Batman: The Videogame.

Hardware Sales for December 2008:

  • DS - 3.04 million

  • Wii - 2.15 million

  • Xbox 360 - 1.44 million

  • PSP - 1.02 million

  • PS3 - 726K

  • PS2 - 410K

Official SCEA statement:

We also hit a remarkable milestone for the PlayStation 2 platform in North America with 50 million units sold. It's truly an amazing testament to the power and legacy of our brand."
