Verizon Hub goes on sale for $199.99 on contract
We had a pretty good idea Verizon's Hub would be loosed on Super Bowl Sunday, and sure enough, the landline killing machine is now available for ordering. The device itself will run you $199.99 on a two-year contract (after all applicable rebates), and if you're still wondering whether or not this thing is even worth your time, why not have a look at our hands-on / impressions?

i'm not wondering anymore.
simply put, no. why would i buy a verizon device...when i have a verizon cell phone in my pocket. my battery will last me 5 days with low brightness and a few calls + 1000 texts...I don't need to be constantly charging it. That's what night time is for.
fuck that, go with T-Mobile, you can get WiFi calling for 10 bucks a month, fuck it just go with T-Mobile all in general. Or simply just add unlimited minutes to your plan, or unlimited everything, ahh the choices are endless
i would put t-mobile all the way to the bottom of the list... well almost all the way, just slightly higher then unicell but still under us cellular.
ahh
Amazing how a contract can uglify a beautiful device.
Can someone please explain to me the whole US rebate program? I am confused why the product isn't sold cheaper without the need for it?
because most of the time you simply wont get the rebate as they are so difficult or most people will forget anyway. eiter way the company wins
1. Customer buys product for $200 more than the after rebate price.
2. Some customers might be too lazy or would forget to mail in the rebate coupons.
3. ???
4. Profit!
Ok, I guess it WOULD be a bit useful, planning routes and stuff before leaving home.
But I can do that on my computer too.
I don't understand this device. It would be awesome if it used your cellphone connection but from what I understand from the hands-on, it doesn't?
Fixed phone units are going the way of the dodo, especially when you can get a Blackberry or other smartphone for less than the combined price of this thing and a normal cellphone and get all the functionality in a wayyyy smaller package.
Unless I'm wrong and there's actually a point to this thing...please educate me :)
I *think* this targeted at two groups of people. First we have Verizon Wireless customers who are interested in getting a landline phone. Second we have Verizon Wireless customers who are interested in a nice look, convergence device for the kitchen or living room. For example, I have an uncle who bought a 22 inch iMac just to use it as a nice display computer in the kitchen for guests.
Of course I think both of these apparent target groups are too small to design a product just for them, but Verizon must think otherwise.
If you have kids ages 3-10 or 12 you need a home phone, unless you are rich enough and buy them disposable mobil phones. The Verizon Hub is great for families with pre teens.
Wow. That looks awesome. Definately a gadget of want other than need though
