Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

Given the scrutiny which Barack Obama
underwent, you'd expect
Fringe's Olivia Dunham -- who's responsible for matters far more serious than "fixing economies" and "creating domestic stimulus packages" -- to use some sort of highly specialized
Sectera Edge for work. But given that AT&T sponsors her program, we suppose the FBI has made an exception here. As you can see, she (and her partners) were recently caught wielding Samsung's
BlackJack II (and getting
perfect reception on AT&T) while investigating the spontaneous morphing of humans. Turns out, this nifty little live video trick helped lead to some resolution in her life, but we'll spare you the spoilers.
Whats the red thing on the whats the white thing? I don't get it :(
Quite the opposite, Engadget seems to bash palm whenever they have the chance to. But, as far as palm smartphones go, I really like this one!
It's obviously a drop of cherry pie filling on an ash tray, I mean, what else could it be?
Watch the show and find out (fox.com/fod or hulu)
It's a glass disk covered in blood taken from inside an dead NSA agent's hand containing mysterious data only readable while the subject it is hidden with is still alive on some kind of plate. But you really should have been able to guess that.
@ Noah Wood
Read the title / blog article / Samsung label on the photo much?
Not quite sure where your Palm reference is from....

My Password manager automatically inserted that comment from the last time I saved my password. I kick myself for stooping down to auto-submit.
That show sucks anyways.
The show doesn't suck. The main character is a horrible actress though. The show is fine as a whole, if not just a little bit over the top and unbelievable (like how there is an actual, honest to god, human teleportation device with no possible explanation of how it supposedly works)
The red dot was a next generation data disc implanted in the hand of the morphed person who died as soon as they morph. No zombies really. This show is our modern day x-files. Great show really with lots of "What the..."
Perfect reception on AT&T? You know it has to be a work of fiction.
The real question, though, is when the zombie research app will ported over to the iPhone and G1.
Zombies? There's an app for that!
no-can-do on the iPhone port,
Duplicate functionality with the built in Steve-Jobs health research tool.....
AT&T has great reception here in DC.. I don't think that I have any reception issues until I'm literally in BFE... then again, I don't have a crap-ass BJII either.. HTC Fuze now, unlocked HTC G1 before it, HTC Tilt and HTC 8525 before then. The RAZR was the first phone I had on AT&T (BAM, Sprint, and Nextel before AT&T) and it was the worst phone I've ever had. HTC is probably the only company I'd buy from right now.
The only time I rolled my eyes at that show is when he says "I'll stream it to you". A picture would've done just fine.
But no, we had to use AT&T's awesome app to stream video while we talk. *sigh* Maybe I'm just jealous.
And FWIW, that morphed porcu-person died because of the plane crash.
Last night's episode was pretty good, though. The guy who plays jones is a great villain, but is anyone else getting some serious Alias vibes off this show? The manuscript that prophesies what's going on, the heroine who has been "chosen" for her special abilities to stop what's coming? The fact that she lost her fiancee whom she still loves while the male workmate pines for her and she strings him along with platonic affection?
I don't know who "Fringe's Olivia Dunham" is. Nor do I care to find out.
Your loss, bub. Your loss.
How would watch TV anyway TITS through your nipples ?
@ Major4Play
Comma usage ftw.....
*yawn* damn the editors must be bored
Fringe is really inconsistant with it's phones (and all other stuff, still nothing like a direction to be found in this series, in spite of them referering "The Pattern":).
Olivia is also seen many times with a red BlackBerry 8300 Curve.
They must have pockets a plenty.
Inconsistant product placement what amateurs, everyone in real life knows we all use the same brand of phones all the time, it's not like she could own a phone from one brand and use a work mobile of a different brand
MADNESS I SAY !
Does anyone notice it's Apple's signal and battery indicator?
If that isn't sarcasm you are the stupidest iDiot I've ever seen..
nice job with the spoilers guys.
I saw it a week ago and didn't care that much. The blackjack is a couple years(?) old, so I don't see what the kerfuffle is about.
Let me translate roman numerals for you
Blackjack =/ Blackjack II
See how there's two lines for the second one? Use your fingers and count em out.... one line... two lines...... = 2 .... YAY!
See, what we have here is the Blackjack II (2)
That little red thing; Best Vodafone ad ever.
last nights episode (and the rest of em) have her using a blackberry!
I spotted another on the "L Word".
They are supposed to be in LA, but last week one of the girls is texting everyone on her iPhone and you can clearly see the carrier logo for Rogers on the screen.
On this weeks Heroes, Claire uses a Centro. She's texting back and forth with someone, and it is shown for quite a while close up.
Olivia Dunham = Alias' Syndey Bristow X 50...
Anyone else noticing the inconsistency with the SAMSUNG and ATT logos... hmm.
ugh, did anyone of you ever own a blackjackII? i had it, it was the worst pOS ive ever owned.
I went from a cingular 8125 to the iphone 1g, then to the blackjackII then to the iphone 3g. now (specifically tonight) im going Android's G1.
the blackjack is the only phone ive had where the internet would ALWAYS crap out when i entered an address, the gps acquisition was fast but the maps applications sucked and you had to go through so much shit to get it to work with *your* app. and the most important part was the phone which the speaker sounded horrible and calls dropped gallore!
never again samsung, never again. and the thing is i wanted the blackjack so bad too, waited a week to get it then returned it 25 days later when i coulndnt stand it anymore and the 3g started to trickle in in mass numbers (this was right after icrap 3g launch)
I'm surprised a screengrab never showed up of her using the new unibody MacBook from the episode before this one.
