Samsung's long-awaited Memoir has already had its 8 megapixel shooter shown up by Sony Ericsson's 12 megapixel Idou, though the former has one huge leg-up over the latter: the Memoir is shipping to T-Mobile USA in ten days, while the Idou doesn't even have an official name yet. We were able to stop by and see this spectacle live and in-person at Mobile World Congress, and we've got the images and video to prove it. Feel free to peruse the media at your leisure, we're open late tonight.
So basically it's a camera with a cellphone added to it. A very interesting concept. I'll wait for the model with interchangeable lenses that should be following shortly.
Just "they" in general, LOL. But the highest MP smartphone is the Omnia at 5MP...and thats on the lamest network (crippling software wise) ever...Verizon!
I'm not a particular fan of proprietary stuff, particularly when it seems inferior to other software on the market. That's the case with this OS. It takes up too much screen real-estate.
In other news, that guy has some serious bling on his right ring finger.
Having lots of megapixels doesn't matter much. What does matter is the type of lens that is focusing all that back on your fancyTechnoBits. While I can't find the "brand", this phone does have a glass lens which makes a huge difference. Not having WiFi though... what were they thinking? That killed it for me and I am pretty sure I am their target market.
from past experience i'm telling you Samsung is rubbish. My u600....OMDZ it has messed me up big time. I had to wait 3 hours in the cause of this Samsung phones. But that's my experience dunno know about others
Maybe your experience... I've had shoddy phones from SE and Nokia, but not from Samsung. I don't think it is always which manufactuer, but rather when in the cycle you buy ( i.e the first phone with xx feature is not as refined as a later model, even though it might not impress as much.) Fair shout to you for stating your own personal experience in a humble manner though, there's too many fan-boys ant and anti-fanboys round here sometimers.
I will be getting mine for sure. Samsung Memoir will be released on 25th Feb and will be priced $299 after $50 MIR (retail 2 year contract). We hope as release day approaches non blurrycam shots turn up so we can get a better look at the highest megapixel camera phone to enter the states. Apart from the 8MP camera, Samsung Memoir is said to also feature a wide touchscreen display, HSDPA connectivity, GPS and stereo Bluetooth. Now let’s hope that, when finally released, it will meet T-Mobile customers’ high expectations.

Ha ha. Touch Wiz.
I was thinking the same thing.
Touch-Whiz? Really?

Yes, the one with bazooka type lens
I wish they would make a smartphone like this. . .ugh!
Who is this "they" you speak of?
aliems?
Specs on this anyone? I can't find the list of the specs just yet. Just curious about WiFi
no wifi, i know its stupid right?
seriously, the lack of wifi on this thing is unacceptable.

So the real question.... how much??
Add some andriod and I'm sold.
Has nobody noticed sony have had an 8MP for ages... the C905

Samsung came out with a 8MP camera phone in Korea about 4 years ago, way before the SE phones.
The innovate also came out before the C905.
I can just see myself saying "Man what is that guy doing talking into his camera"
Pfff. I'm not interested in any phones ending in -oir if the sales rep isn't willing to jump for me.

so its a phone camera?
great video, im glad the guy immediately told us the OS on the phone is their proprietary software. immediately lost interest and closed the video. :)
Does the Memoir have optical zoom? It certainly looks like it, looking at the back of it, but they guy specifically only mentions "16x digital zoom".
It would be such a shame if this didn't have an optical zoom.

I wish they offered optical zoom on these camera phones, not just digital.
