Amazon's Kindle 2 listed as "in stock" -- for now, anyway
We heard that Amazon was already prepping the earliest Kindle 2 orders for shipment, but now we're seeing a flood of shipment notifications head our way. So far as we can tell, the second iteration of the Kindle e-reader is shipping en masse, and Amazon even lists the thing as "In Stock" on its website. Of course, the original Kindle had that status for about 3.87 (okay, 5.5) hours before slipping into backorder land for far too long, but we're hoping the supply chain's a bit more ready for the rush this go 'round.

I own a Kindle 1 and already have my order in for Kindle 2. I received a shipment notice email this morning that mine was shipping. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully the new design will mean 100% fewer accidental page turns (it's hard NOT to bump buttons that take up the entire side of a device).
You want to give me your old one? :D
And mine shipped out an hour ago, so I guess I'll have mine tomorrow.
Sorely tempted now. A friend ordered one, so I'll have a look at it and see if I want one myself. She's a doctor, and I'm not, so the price is a concern for one of us. . .
The funny thing is that I sold her on it. She'd never heard of it until I told her about it. That's Amazon's big problem with the Kindle; They don't do any advertising outside of their own website and tech/reading blogs. Nothing on TV. Nothing in magazines. Nothing in newspapers. You'd think they'd want non-Amazon customers to know about it so they could turn them into new Amazon customers!
FUlly AgrEE! Amazon is worse than Microsoft when it comes to advertizing.
Yeah, let me know when these hit $200.
If they release a new one every 18 months or so, that could very well never have happen.
Release and replace with new model before the price has a chance to fall.
Ordered on Saturday -- shipment notification on Sunday at midnight.
If they keep this pace up, I'd think the deprecation of the "old model" will make the price drop quite a bit after the newest ones come out, as long as you don't need the newest and the greatest. Just look at digital cameras. You can get a perfectly acceptable 3 or 4 megapixel camera for freakishly cheap, probably half (or less) of what it was a year ago. Granted there's much more competition in digital cameras than in e-readers, but yeah.
No one wants to see your spam-tastic blog, go plug yourself somewhere else
This comment WAS as response to some guy plugging his stupid blog, but apparently they removed it, hence the seemingly random comment.
Just don't order with a leather cover at the same time... mine's still "shipping soon" :-(
I ordered the leather cover and mine's shipped already. Maybe availability for the cover isn't quite as good as the hardware it's supposed to lovingly embrace.
I didn't order warranty with mine. I've been told I have 30 days to order it, if I want it.
Anyone know if they have any plans to update the software on the Kindle 1?
I'm surprised no one else is reporting this: mine shipped monday and the tracking info shows it's currently "out for delivery" so I should have it tonight (ups usually comes around 5:00 at my place).
I ordered it about an hour after the press conference on the 9th though..
Mine arrived on the 26th. For those interested, my review is up:
